Publisher's Summary

Using personal anecdotes, Ed finds hope in our desire to become whole, with some simple music lessons along the way.

How can we pause long enough to repair ourselves? How can we make space and time in our lives to know ourselves?

One way is through music - learning music, listening to music, being open to music. Because music consoles and restores us. Through music, whether we are listening or playing, we know ourselves more intimately, more honestly, and more clearly with every note. And with every note, music offers us a hand to the beyond.

Through music, we can say what we didn't even know we felt.

This audiobook is an ode to music, and a celebration of humanity's greatest creation. It is not a call to arms, but a call to instruments.

Inspiring insight

Spent a long time ruminating over this book, I thought the author was quite thorough in his understanding of both music and passion necessary to play at a high level. I got my guitar out again after a very long long time thank you! it made me realise as much of a redneck as I may be perceived to be that people are just people. Thank you for showing me that.

Beautiful.

Absolutely captured what music means in a unique and beautiful way. A perfect balance of wisdom, humour, sentiment and personal experience.

A delight!

He is such a wonderful author, thoughtful and poetic, very powerful when required, but an eye for the simplicity and beauty in the world. The book is about how music shapes our lives, and I wondered if it would be too niche for non musicians to appreciate, but it isn't really, it is about living, which applies to everyone!

If you like, you'll like

I found this a bit bland and occasionally mildly irritating - required reading for book club.

However, I imagine most readers will find out something about the author and want to hear more. If that's you, this book will do you just fine.

The reader performs themselves on radio for a living - so it's as good as it could be!

Tender taut and transcendent

I finished the book and wanted to immediately start at the very beginning, again… so tender in delivery, taut in text, and transcendent with which music can only ascend. Beautiful Ed.
