*Book 1 in a highly addictive and scorching hot Friends-to-Lovers Rockstar Romance duet set in the world of the acclaimed Lock & Key MC Romance series!*

Beck

On the final night of my band's sold-out world tour, my high life comes crashing down on me.

Girlfriend. Band. Best friend. All of it. Blindsided, humiliated, pissed off, I take off and slam right into Violet.

Years have gone by since we shared a life-changing conversation in the dark where an unexpected and fierce connection ignited between us.

Now our high voltage attraction explodes.

Between us, it’s soul-searing and wild. And in an impressive twist of fate, she and I are connected in more ways than we know.

The paparazzi are after me for one screw-up after the other, crazy rumors are swirling about me, about the band. But all I care about is Violet, and I’ll do anything to make her mine.

Violet

Am I living the thrill of a lifetime with my one and only man-crush, or am I just deluding myself and ruining a friendship?

I’ve known Beck Lanier for years, but now he's a famous rockstar, living a totally different life. He dares me to take off with him on an extravagant trip. You bet I do—and not once, but twice. The perfect escape from reality for both of us when we need it the most.

This started out as no strings attached fun, and suddenly it isn’t. The fire between me and this gorgeous, talented, and soulful guitarist keeps burning brighter and hotter, obliterating all my musts and all my shoulds. And there are plenty.

And now, working together only brings us closer.

The one thing I do know for sure is that waiting for me back home in South Dakota is harsh, demanding reality from which there is no escape.

Whirlwind is the first book of The Wind & the Roar Duet. The Wind & the Roar Duet concludes in Whisperwind.

What a rich and beautiful story!!!
Violet and Beck were amazing characters and I could feel their undeniable connection and chemistry!
Despite the issues they had to face, their bond was built gradually yet strongly.
I liked how the development of their families’ relationships was unfolded.
Kudos to the author for the excellent references to Greece, while Beck and Violet were visiting!

While the previous book was just a small appetizer, this one dives into the main course right away.

Violet and Beck are fire! Their passionate encounter in book 1 has left them with long-lasting effects, and though they didn’t really try to connect between then and now, the embers are still hot and the blaze starts anew. Their attraction for each other can’t be contained, and takes up most of the story. The rest is sightseeing and drama, but in a pleasant way.

The story takes us to South Dakota, L.A., Nashville and Greece. You’ll travel a lot while reading this book, and some scenes are only there to help you get a feeling of the places, nothing more. But it’s okay, because this book is a sensory experience. Visiting new places, tasting new food, listening to music, feeling the heat and the wind and the water on your skin… Prepare all your senses for an eventful trip.

Dramas surround Violet and Beck. With their family, with their friends… Romantic relationships are often at the core of those dramas–lack of commitment, complete emotional fusion, complicated relationships, falling out of love, every flavor is offered for your tastebuds.

The author definitely has a way with words. Instead of themes, she weaves paterns in her work. The wind, falling, freedom, are some of those paterns, that come back in various forms and with various nuances, giving a deeper meaning to the story and its characters. Even the broken sentences and weird structures are here to offer you a taste of the characters’ mind and thoughts. Clever.

This trilogy is set in the author’s main universe, where most of her books are written. That means there are a lot of guest stars from other stories. Sometimes, it felt like their cameos had no real purpose, at least not in Violet and Beck’s story. But it anchored their romance into a bigger world–a nice gift to her regular readers, and not an impediment for the new ones as their background is explained enough.

A rich and provocative journey into love and life and choices through the eyes of a sentimental rockstar and his passionate lover.

Quickie

- Series: The wind and the roar trilogy #2 (ends on a cliffhanger)
- Hashtags: #rockstar romance #friends to lovers #second chance #first love #vacation trips
- Triggers: cheating, subtance abuse, past death
- Main couple: Violet Hildebrand & Beck Lanier
- Hotness: 5/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + a sensory experience
- – the word you’re looking for is ‘love’, guys!

Talk about the perfect title. This continuation of The Wind & the Roar trilogy is one heck of a Whirlwind. Picking up 5 years later after Beck Lanier and Violet Hildebrand's brief albeit meaningful encounter, we see the rocker has soared to a fame he could only dream of. Meanwhile, Violet is juggling being a part of her father's determined team of developers with staying a big part of her mother's thriving cafe. Somewhere in between, she is not living her life the way she wants and another run-in with Beck may just turn her world on its side once more.

The pull is still there as these two find their attraction to one another hard to resist. With some time off after a very successful world tour, Beck and Violet spend a very passionate night while he is secretly in Meager and his Mom and step-dad are off on a vacation. The chemistry is off the charts incredible as they both give in to the feelings that never went away after that first kiss they shared before Beck became a full-fledged rock star. It isn't hard to feel the indecision from Violet, in particular since their lives are vastly different with Beck's pulling him in a million different directions at once. But I really felt as if they were on the same page despite the demands that might keep them apart more often than not.

Porter cleverly uses a trip abroad to solidify their bond while offering some of the most steamy scenes this author has ever penned. Holy moly, I was fanning myself and often as Beck offers up a freedom Violet has never experienced and let's just say it satisfied more than enough of her curiosity. Combining worlds from prior books is presented beautifully as beloved characters provide excursions and opportunities for Violet to live out her own dreams, constantly wondering if what she left behind in Meager can truly be ignored.

There is plenty at play with Beck and his struggles with his band, together with Violet's relentless father and the unexpected drama at home with her mother, Erica. Thankfully, the women of Meager are more than happy to step in when needed and I thoroughly enjoyed the times when these wicked strong ladies would provide a slew of laughs and a bit of womanly advice to Violet and her mom with a wink and a nod.

Like I said at the start, this book is aptly titled as Beck and Violet hit the ground running and enjoy each other in a way that is both comforting and scary all at the same time. These two seem to be fated to be together but with so many obstacles and people standing in their way, will they truly find the happiness they most definitely deserve? Only time will tell as the last few paragraphs certainly threw me for a loop knowing our heroine has quite the uphill battle in front of her.

I just want to add that there are some secondary characters new to this storyline who are definitely worth exploring in the future. With a whole other book to devour as Whisperwind will certainly prove to be one heck of crazy-good conclusion, I can't wait to see how these friends and bandmates figure into Beck and Violet's future, whether they are together or apart.

Never holding back when it comes to matters of the heart, Cat Porter has written a continuation that is intense and engaging. I look forward to more of this all-encompassing love story and happily give Whirlwind a huge 4 stars!

Holy WOW! This book was amazing!!! Beck and Violet were off the charts sexy!! The entire time I read this book it felt like my heart was going to explode. The way Cat Porter writes I swear I can feel it in my soul! This was so sensual and passionate. Gratifying in so many ways. These 2 had a deep soul connection when they had a heart opening conversation unlike any conversation they’ve ever had with anybody else in Freefall, but 5 years later that connection exploded and things will never be the same!

I absolutely loved how Cat Porter connected some of my favorite characters from the Lock & Key series, Fury and Dagger In The Sea! All coming together. Beck is Lenore’s son, the leading lady character of Fury.

I’m so impressed by this book even though I know Cat Porter is an incredible writer and all her books are written this way but every book she writes blows me away! I can’t wait to get my hands on book 3 Whisperwind coming Oct. 20th!!

Wow! Whirlwind is the perfect title for this book. I feel like my senses have been tantalized in a whirlwind. I knew after reading Freefall, that we were being given just a small taste of what would end up being an amazing trilogy and I was right. We met Beck and Violet in that book. For it to be such a short book, my gut felt everything.
This book picks up five years later and both of their lives have only gotten busier and more complicated. Beck is stressed over band issues and his personal life. When he literally runs into Violet again, it's obvious the chemistry that existed between them before is easily lit again. You can feel the heat between them pour off of the pages. Both of their individual lives are hectic and filled with stressful problems but together they can escape and the electricity is intense. Cat Porter has included several Easter eggs from her other series as surprises in this one. If I didn't already want to read her other works, I certainly do now.
So many different things are going on in this book. I fell in and never wanted to leave. This author is incredibly talented in her descriptions. It made me feel like I was traveling along with them. I loved these two as a couple and I can’t wait to read the last book which I will be counting the days until. This book does end on a cliffhanger but it isn't too bad. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

Whirlwind picks up five years after the amazing interlude between Beck and Violet in Freefall, the introduction of the Wind & the Roar trilogy.

Whirlwind is aptly named. As we are swept off with a whole new set of exciting characters, circumstances and various locations that creates this fantastic story. Beck and Violet continue on as the central characters along with new secondary characters that add to the excitement and intrigue. Porter shows her genius though in the blending of these new and vibrant characters with the much beloved characters of her past work. She has woven their presence and purpose into the story flawlessly.

Throughout the story we see the chemistry grow that ties Beck and Violet in ways they do not yet see nor understand. What began as a casual, chance meeting created a unique and intriguing pull, a connection that has stayed with each of them over the course of time. When they are apart they stay in the recesses of one another’s mind. When they are together you feel that connection, that pull. Until the ultimate that takes them from friends to lovers. The progression of this relationship is given to us in a slow and steady fashion. I, for one thoroughly enjoyed this as we can truly see the care and building love they have for one another. All of this to say has set up the story nicely for Whisperwind!!

Wow! A lot is going on in this book, and I hope all the secondary characters being introduced are setting us up for an excellent, long series!

After the quick introduction to Violet and Beck in Freefall, we get to know them better in this book. Both have storms raging around them, but when they are together, it all quiets. As he is a famous person, he has his baggage in the form of Paparazzi and social media alerts. Likewise, Violet has her family issues, small-town politics, and family legacy. But, in the end, it is Violet and Beck working towards #couplegoals, but do they have the correct role models?

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Whirlwind is the second book of The Wind & the Roar Trilogy. It starts explosively and offers all the feels you are begging for. Being the 2nd book in the series it flows right along with no jaggedness and it tells a complete full story. Now I recommend that you read this story in order as there are some plot lines that will follow through this incredible trilogy! Miss Porter brings the heat. Oh are you ready for these rockers? I sure wasn't but lord I am so ready for the third book! Engaging, Gripping. All the things a reader wants and needs! Beck and Violets story. It is not for the faint of heart. These two have got a uphill battle, but it is a journey I want to take with this incredibly talented author. I HIGHLY recommend ANYTHING by this author, but I IMPLORE you to pick up this series and give it some lovin. You will hear your own beat to your song when you do and it will be beautiful!

"Together, we escape into the dark night."

This book kicks off a couple of years from Free Fall book 1. Its a short book and I still don't know how Cat got their steamy romance in that short book. It was such a good tease of their relationship and here is book 2 and it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT!

Beck & Violet are reunited again and I just love their reunion when she accidentally punched him🤣 Yes Violet is a firecrack and love that she stands up for herself. She is what Beck needs. Beck is what Violet needs and thank to him she is following her dream

These two encourage & love each other so strongly you will feel it! Because of Beck advice from Free Falll she did, she went into photography but her dad is...no spoilers
Beck is dealing with depression of a tabloid about a ex...no spoilers
Their love just grew and grew and oh may when they are together the banter is brillaint especially about bourbon comment !& their love scenes are WOW 🔥& adorable

I just LOVE the little tease at the end of the book. Yes their is a cliffhanger BUT it's heart warming cliffhanger no spoilers...
I can not wait for Whisper Wind because I want to know what going to happen next and their careers!!

After getting an appetizer with Freefall, I've been waiting on Whirlwind super impatiently to be honest. ANd yes, this story was so good that I should be able to say it was worth the wait (it is), but I'm still feeling the desperation of waiting LOL! This is several years in the future with Beck's band being at the top, and just finishing up with a world tour but he's kind of at the end of his rope with things in his life, but fate steps in & he comes across Violet again, and their connection is still lying in wait fo light the world up. What follows is spending time hooking up in different places & Cat Porter is such a descriptive genius that I felt like I was with them in person. Of course their connection is so strong that it's not just scratching an inch, feelings are getting caught but seriously there's a lot of complications because of their separate lives. I simply cannot wait for more (I'm dying inside), and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Whirlwind was a feast for the hungry! Beck and Violet are a sizzling hot fire!! I could not get enough of them.

In Freefall, we were introduced to Beck and Violet. Violet's chance encounter with a local rockstar, that she knew from childhood, that made the big time, ends with both of them wanting more.

Whirlwind picks up 5 years, and a lifetime of experiences later. Another chance encounter, but this time, it leads to a fire that absolutely combusts and cannot be stiffled.

@catporter.writer When you announced this trilogy, I got tingly. It's like my body just knew you'd be releasing a match into gas and I was right!! I am counting down the days until Whisperwind is released so I can dive back in to their fire.

I have never gotten an opportunity to read an ARC, and could not be more thrilled that one of Cat's books was my first. I love her storytelling style!!! Thank you, Cat and @givemebookspr. I truly am honored for this chance.

The connection that was ignited in Freefall comes roaring to passionate life in Whirlwind! Both Beck and Violet have gone on with their lives, Beck to musical success and Violet to a combination of duty, support for her Mum and Dad and a partial following of her dreams. Neither are truly living their best lives. Beck is falling into spiral of drinking and overwork, losing part of himself, of his musical inspiration, while Violet is trying to work for and do her best on behalf of her family, without fully being true to herself. Their reunion sparks a flame which is going to be hard to extinguish.
With some globe trotting, finding their joy in each other, spending time with others from Cat Porter's wider world of much loved characters, we are taken on a passionate, vivid journey. And it is fabulous! 💖💖💖💖💖

Beck is now a celebrity and Violet is part of a team of developers for her father and her mother's café. The two end up meeting up while Beck is at his parents house. All the fire is still there and what was supposed to be just one night turns into more. Can two people with totally different lives make it work?

Whirlwind picks up the pace right from the first three chapters of Freefall. If Beck and Violet sparked a mutual curiosity, then Whirlwind is the roaring fire. Cat Porter brings these two together with undeniable chemistry at a time when both characters are bucking the 'should's'. Violet should be (in her estimation) stepping up and taking one for the team on behalf of her father's and family's broken dreams. Toss in a large measure of survivor guilt and responsibility and tease it with a whirlwind of attraction and creative opportunity and enter one Beck Lanier, temptation incarnate. These two make the best of a bad situation, as Beck is at the precipice of a change himself. The status quo isn't cutting it, and the social media backlash has Beck joining an old, trusted friend in the island paradise of Mykonos...and guess who's buying her own ticket to join him?
The story unfolds as both Beck and Violet delight in each other's company while discovering the freedom of being with a true kindred spirit. The adventure in Mykonos took my breath away as I lost myself in the pages, slowing myself down from finishing the story. Because duty calls, choices must be made, real life is knocking on the door. I cannot wait for Whisperwind!

Whirlwind by C. Porter is the second installment in the The Wind and The Roar Trilogy. This is not a stand-alone. The books must be read in order. The previous book is Freefall.
But back to Whirlwind.
Beck is the guitarist in their band. Together with Jude, Zack and Myles they're about to go on top of their world. After hid gf dumped him on social media, he's had enough.
Violet is an talented photographer, hired to get on tour and take pictures for the band.
She and Beck are instantly attracted to each other. But you know, rockstar et al. So why not flinging while on tour and then separate after? As if that would work, ever. At the last second changes everything and now I have to wait for the final installment, so....

The second book in The Wind & Roar Trilogy, Whirlwind is a friends-to-lovers Rockstar romance that continues the story of Beck and Violet five years later. Whirlwind is filled with drama, explosive chemistry, obstacles, complications, rumors, and toe-curling steamy scenes.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

I’m intrigued by how things will develop between Beck and Violet but this is the exact kind of toxic family dynamic I have no patience for.

I also didn’t care for the thread of casual homophobia. On the one hand, there are some lines about inclusivity. On the other hand, there’s such a big deal made of the fact that Beck’s ex-girlfriend cheated on him with a woman and one of his bandmates says he should change things up by having sex with a man. Beck never says anything along the lines of him being upset that Mae cheated on him and the fact that it was with a woman doesn’t matter.

This is set in Meager, SD, just like this author’s MC series. It was fun seeing some of the same places and people and learning that Beck’s mom owns the lingerie shop all the women connected to the One-Eyed Jacks shop at.

Characters: Beck is a 27 year old white lead guitarist and songwriter. Violet is a white 25 year old photographer, commercial real estate development employee (dad’s business), coffee shop manager (mom’s business), and substitute bartender. This is set in Meager, SD.

Content notes: infidelity (FMC gets back together with ex-boyfriend but doesn’t tell MMC despite having sex with him; MMC’s ex-girlfriend cheated on him; FMC had an on-again, off-again situation with a secondary character and would have sex with him even when he had a girlfriend, off page sexual assault (FMC groped by a man at the bar), parental infidelity (FMC catches dad at a strip club), physical assault, white secondary character is keeping her Black boyfriend a secret from her family (including FMC) because her dad is racist, homophobia (not countered), misogynist slurs, near-drowning (secondary character on drugs), past death of dad’s bandmate who had a decades-long issue with substance abuse, past death of FMC’s brother (fire), past parental divorce (MMC’s dad cheated), past death of relatives in convenience store robbery, unsolicited nude photo from ex-hookup, classism, MMC has a half-sister who has Down Syndrome (his mom gave her up for adoption shortly after her birth after mom’s boyfriend went to jail), vomit, past death of FMC’s grandma, unsafe sex practices (use a condom but do not discuss STI status despite both of them recently having other partners. FMC is on birth control.), on page sex, sexting, masturbation, public sex (secondary characters), alcohol, underage drinking, inebriation, excessive drinking, recreational drug use, cigarettes (secondary character), gendered pejoratives, ableist language

DNF 7%. Book one was all I could handle.

It’s not you. It’s me.

This book is like a wisp of wind that is so beautiful and ethereal it has to point out its beauty and translucence in a never-ending stream of lengthy, over-laboured similes which, somehow become longer and more drawn out than what they are describing.

For instance:

”This moving song was a ballad filled with intense emotion that he let breathe in the air like a freshly opened bottle of fine wine. The flavor became more intense. Mesmerizing to my nose, exhilarating to my tongue.”

That ol mesmerising nose thing? I get that all the time.

”This double life that I extracted out of myself every day, like squeezing out bits of toothpaste when the tube was pretty much empty and your fingers hurt, but you still did it.”

Then you roll it up and restart squishing from the very end again. Yeah, totes like life.

”Before I knew it, it would fly away from me, like a balloon whose string slips from your hand and the wind pitches it into the sky, out of reach. Far away and farther away. There’d be no way to catch it, bring it back. No way.”

No way… no way… no way… fade to black on the outstretched hand; taught, yet slightly quivering.

It’s all gone a bit too melodramatic from the get-go for me. I’m just not the right person for this.

So Violet and Beck see each other again 5 years later after book 1. Beck has just been blindsided publicly by his "girlfriend" who is now dating a woman and posting it all over social media. He is licking his wounds and trying to figure out what he wants out of life now that their tour that lasted 1-1/2 years is over. He runs into Violet and sparks fly between them again. He is unaware that Violet is thinking she is living an episode of Dallas and is being betrothed to Ladd. Ladd is not a very nice person and threatens her at every turn. Does she stand up to him - no! She claims they need him and his family in order to make all of her father's dreams come true. It was just too much to be believed. There is no way a house would make me prostitute myself in order to have it back. She was whiny and very self-centered. I felt that Beck put himself out there again and again and she selfishly continued in her quest to make her father happy. It was not my favorite book and I was left wondering why there was so much drama added that was unnecessary. I am hoping Violet learns to stand up for herself and to quit pushing away Beck for her own selfish reasons.

Whirlwind by Cat Porter

I am so excited that I received the ARC for the first and now the second book from The Wind & the Roar Trilogy. So far they have been amazing books. The second book starts is off five yrs after Freefall where Beck and Violet begin. This book is true to its name because it truly is a whirlwind of excitement and intrigue. In this second installment we see more of the chemistry between Beck and Violet grow. We see it tie them in ways they do not yet see nor understand. What begins as a casual chance meeting then creates a unique and intriguing connection that has stayed with each of them over the course of time. When they are apart they are not far out of one another’s mind. When you read the pages you will feel that connection when they are together you feel that pull. I truly enjoyed the progression of their relationship how it is presented to us in a slow and steady fashion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot recommend enough you will love this book as much as I did. I cannot wait for the last book on this amazing trilogy.

This is the 2nd book in this intriguing trilogy, and Beck and Violet’s journey continues. Beck is a successful rockstar, while Violent is pulled in different directions by her relentless father to involve her in his team of developers, and her mother with the drama in her thriving café. While Beck is struggling with his band, and challenges along the way, he and Violet manage to spend a passionate night together. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and undeniable. This is a well written intense, engaging, and emotionally charged story, with passion, family, friendships, drama, and love, which leads to a steamy and entertaining page turner. I cannot wait to read the 3rd and final book in this amazing trilogy, and I highly recommend this talented authors’ work.

Gotra say this was somewhat disappointing tbh.

For the first part up to their trip to Greece i was bored.

But having lived in Greece for 3 years, 1 on an island in the aegean and working in Athens guiding the tours around the acropolis n parthenon I absolutely loved all the memories it brought back: the smells, food, ambiance, culture and just sheer beauty that Greece is. The author captures that perfectly.that hedonism and joy de vive as the french say.

It was the only interesting part. The rest was tedious and annoying.

The whole issue with Ladd was just beyond meh, corny and unrealistic to me.

I hope but 3 is better cos so far this series is a shocking 2 stars only for me.

Great book! It was nice seeing characters from pervious books make an appearance. Love Beck! He really have Violet strength and confidence when she needed it. That's what partners should always do for each other.
On to Violet. I liked her enough except for the fact she was just like, whatever, with her wretched father. There is absolutely no excuse for his behavior. Maybe b/c it's so common around that area? But I would have been full blown pissed and not forgiving. Yeah, she was upset for a minute but the just goes on like nothing happened. I wish she would've shown more strength towards him for her mother's sake. She has this weird need to please him and keep working with him through their project. I don't get it.

What a wild ride. The way this author can bring us full circle back to the beginning of her series is amazing. Her talk of Lenore, Finger, Wreck, Isi, and even Eric sent me back to rereading her Lock and Key series and Fury. If you haven’t read them please do you won’t regret it. Her descriptions of the rock and roll lifestyle and of Meager and Greece will make you feel like you were there. I have rock and roll experience and she was spot on. She did not rely on just watching The Dirt and I walk The Line for her research. She either experienced it or her research was flawless. Thank you Cat Porter. Looking forward to book 3.

This book did not disappoint and aptly titled Whirlwind!!! Talk about storyline twists and tugging at readers' heartstrings... It's a Whirlwind of a read!!

Beck and Violet's story picks up 5 years later. Straight into a whirlwind of physical attraction!
Along with the neverending whirlwind of personal and professional drama and plot twists.

I just keep telling myself to remember Cat Porter’s book Fury worked out in the end...so will this one!! Fingers crossed until I can read the last book in this trilogy. (Pun was not intentional!)

Brilliant

I am so loving this wild rock star falling for a hometown girl. The girl feeling many obligations to her family but no herself. Him pushing to do what she wants and to be his. The story flows well and takes you through the journey with stars in your eyes and love in your heart

So Goid!

Cat is not just the master of MC biker books, she’s a master at the romance genre. She snares you up into their whirlwind tale and keeps you moving w her characters as they navigate first love, life and obligations. She intertwines brilliantly characters from past stories in a refreshing way. I loved this book about Violet & Beck. Can’t wait for the thirds book!
