Great starter preamp for condenser mics
I’ve been using my Apollo twin for years and wanted to get a fuller sound with some analog gear. I don’t regret this purchase. Only complaint I have is that it’s missing screws to keep the top from coming off.

I have had this preamp now for about 7 months, and it is AMAZING. I have had it long enough to play with it and see what different kinds of results you can get with it, and I am super happy with this purchase. I use my Neumann TLM103 through this preamp, and it does wonders for it! Lots of people complain that the TLM103 is too harsh, but this preamp really helps warm it up and see it to its full potential.

I also have used the preamp to do a direct in with my acoustic and electric guitars, and I am in love. A lot of direct boxes and other methods of directly recording guitars makes the guitar sound flat and not well shaped. With the different settings on this preamp, you can make it sound really great.

I am convinced it would be hard to find a better more versatile preamp for the money.

I love this thing, I have the 500 series version, but wanted another and those are double slots, so I got the rack version. It's easily the best pre-amp for the dollar. While you can tone down the beastly color, once you hear it you won't want to - you'll just keep thinking about how that keyboard, that guitar, the vocals, pretty much everything you throw into it will sound distinct in the mix. I've even taken old digital masters and used this for remastering. Unbelievable what it can do.

Not a bad preamp, by far. Enough headroom for a sm7b (might be adding a cloudlifter as to allow more coloration with the TB12) but it could use a few fewer 'tweak' knobs as they don't seem to enhance much or prove a noticeable difference in sound.

All in all, I'd rather have two channels than all the bells and whistles but don't regret the purchase.

First let me tell you my signal chain. I have my Neumann Tlm 102 into my Tonebeast, through an Eqp-WA (also warm audio) EQ, to my WA76 compressor, then to my 18i20. I use this preamp for primarily vocals. All the bells and whistles equipped are very usable. Just understand that you will NOT hear significant differences in the transformers until cranking up the input. Then you start to hear the tone shaping happening. I watched a preamp shootout between an Avalon 737 and this. The WA won it for me. I was tied between the two. I now own all the warm audio stuff including the WA76. My vocal tracks sound incredible. I get compliments on a regular basis. If you know how to work this box, you will produce some warm and full sounding vox no doubt. I've owned many preamps now, and the rest have been put away since I got the beast.

Had a lot of different preamps in my racks, some of which were great and some not so much. Also have a pretty varied mic locker. Many mid price (over $500, less than $1500) mics have tended, to me, to sound a bit bland. This unit, however, has changed all that. Mics that have had limited use are suddenly wonderful. This "beast" provides so much tone, so easily, that it is a joy to have in the signal chain. The options, as others have rightly pointed out, are mostly subtle, but - hey - I have them and if they make a difference it's a win. Also just purchased a WA-2A from Warm. It too seems to have valued beyond it's price point. Well done guys!

In love with TB12 from Warm Audio. Plenty of output for use with ribbons and dynamics like the SM7b. Gain and output stages make it possible to drive the pre for color without overloading more sensitive condensors. Choice of transformers give a nice, subtle coloring to the sound. Built sturdy and well worth the price. Gets used on almost every tracking session.

Very versatile. Can sound clean or get dirty depending on the options and how hard you drive it. The first one arrived DOA but the manufacturer fixed it. 3 stars because it took a week to get it back and obviously the quality control isn't that great.
