One of the standout features of this wheelchair is the reclining backrest, which allows for various positions for relaxation and comfort. The reclining function comes in handy during long periods of sitting or when a more relaxed posture is needed. It's a thoughtful addition that ensures added comfort for the user.
The detachable desk-length arms are another fantastic feature. They provide excellent support when needed, and the ability to detach them makes transferring to and from the wheelchair much easier. This feature has made daily activities and transferring between the wheelchair and other surfaces effortless and hassle-free.
Additionally, the elevating leg rests add to the overall comfort and usability of this wheelchair. The ability to elevate the legs when required helps reduce pressure on the lower limbs, promoting better circulation and preventing discomfort.
The Silver Vein finish not only gives the wheelchair a sleek and stylish appearance but also adds to its durability. The sturdy construction and high-quality materials used in this wheelchair ensure its longevity, making it a reliable companion for daily use.
The wheelchair's maneuverability is impressive, thanks to the smooth-rolling wheels and well-designed frame. The ease of pushing and steering make navigating various indoor and outdoor terrains a breeze.
The Drive Medical SSP16RBDDA Silver Sport Reclining Wheelchair's dimensions and weight capacity offer ample space and support for most users. It feels stable and secure, providing peace of mind while using it.
In conclusion, the wheelchair has exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort, usability, and quality. The reclining backrest, detachable desk-length arms, and elevating leg rests make it a versatile and user-friendly mobility aid. Its sturdy construction and Silver Vein finish add to its durability and aesthetic appeal. Whether for everyday use or occasional trips, this wheelchair has proven to be a reliable and practical choice. I highly recommend the wheelchair to anyone in need of a comfortable, feature-rich, and durable mobility solution.
I hit a slight snag in that one of the two hollow poles at the back that the headrest poles are supposed to slot into inexplicably had a tiny little notch cut into it, like 1/16th of an inch square, and the notched piece was bent down into the opening, so the headrest pole couldn't slide into it. I had to take some heavy duty needle-nose pliers and bend the errant little piece of metal up, back out, so it was out of the way. It was tricky because there are screws at right angles about 1/2 an inch down inside the chair-back poles, which notches in the headrest poles slot down over, so in straightening out the defect I accidentally bent the screw (in close proximity), and then had to straighten IT out again so the notch would line up and slot over it. Should this also be the case with your chair, you'll see all this clearly, and it's easily remedied with a bit of muscle (the metal is heavy-duty and hard to bend) and some slender pliers (or you could perhaps file the offending bit of metal away).
This was the 2nd chair I ordered, had a BAD experience with the first one. I first ordered an "open-box" chair, to save some money ($50 less), the same 20" model, and when the box arrived it was in tatters, had huge holes in it, was completely open at one end and half the pieces were missing, and a leg rest was broken. How Amazon should ship such a box, with missing and broken pieces, I can't even imagine. I called Drive Medical and they were GREAT, went over piece by piece with me what should have been in the box. I had to somehow secure the box (lots of Gorilla tape), and return it to Amazon for a refund. UPS didn't even want to accept the box to ship it back! FedEx had delivered it, and the driver had advised me to refuse shipment, I SHOULD HAVE. So be forewarned! Amazon paid for return shipping and gave me a full refund, btw, but my mother went without a chair in the meantime. It's the last time I'll ever order an open-box item (an obvious defective return).
I'm SO glad all was [relatively] good with the second chair. When all is said and done I love it, it's quite grand looking, a thing of beauty (e.g., a rich, pebbly/dappled gunmetal-like finish, flecked with silver, with beautifully beveled and scalloped wheels). It has a stately, faintly Victorian look about it, MUCH nicer than it appears in the photo. It's for my mom, who is 5'8" with long legs and it and the headrest (when adjusted properly, with Velcro) are a good fit for her. She kept nearly sliding out of the standard issue chair at the rehab center. She loves it too.
I must add that with my mom's very long legs, even with the leg/foot rests extended for length as far as they will go, her knees must still be bent a little, with her feet flat on the footrests. This is good for navigating/traveling, but for sitting for extended periods of time we either slide the entire foot/leg rest assemblies to the side so she can extend her legs to the floor, relax, cross her ankles; or, we flip just the footrests up out of the way and let her rest her calves on the cushioned leg rests and point her toes (especially when reclining).
Besides that the chair fully reclines, e.g., for a nap, and that it's gorgeous, I think what I like most is the fact that the back is adjustable in infinitesimal increments, from fully upright to fully reclined or anywhere in between, so you can adjust it to whatever position is most comfortable (my mother likes it tilted back just a few degrees). Ditto with the leg rests, they adjust up to a fully reclined horizontal position. They don't go all the way down, to the floor I mean (see the photo, that's as far down as the foot/leg rests go). The seat is relatively low, closer to the floor, I'm assuming to maintain a low center of gravity for stability when reclining. If occupants wants their knees bent, feet touching the floor (or, extended out in front of them heels touching the floor, depending on the length of their legs, perhaps with ankles crossed, as I said before), you just flip the foot/leg rest assemblies to the sides, out of the way. You can also easily remove them altogether. All the chair's workings are smooth, quick and easy.
I looked at Drive Medical's website and they have lots of info about troubleshooting problems, identifying parts that may need replacing, etc.- good to know they provide continuing support after your purchase. GREAT CHAIR, we LOVE it!
