4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 104 ratings

THE GREATEST UNSOLVED MYSTERY IN TWO CENTURIES!

HIRAM KANE IS BACK. THIS TIME, THINGS ARE DIFFERENT. THIS TIME, KANE'S PUTTING HIMSELF FIRST.

After being approached by an enigmatic character at a bar in Cambodia, where he has been holed up for several months after the devastating events in Egypt, against his better judgment Hiram Kane gets tempted into one last mission.

However, he soon learns that all is not as it seems. Thus, what begins as a harmless treasure hunt soon descends into an electrifying battle for truth.

And then, a death-defying battle for survival!

From Cambodia to Washington D.C. then New Orleans to the mysterious Oak Island, and finally to the Scottish Highlands via London, Kane battles his own demons as well as the latest in a long list of deadly adversaries. Those men want the same thing Kane wants.

The only difference is that they will kill to get it.

And if Kane fails, the very future of trans-Atlantic peace is on the line.

The Oak Island Enigma is book #8 in Moore's bestselling Hiram Kane action thriller series. Readers of Nick Thacker, Kevin Tumlinson, Ernest Dempsey and Clive Cussler will LOVE this book.

Englishman Steven Moore grew up by the seaside, thus his first true joy was the great outdoors. His innate love of travel and a degree in anthropology, archaeology, and art history, help inform his fiction writing. Steven also loves painting, photography, and both playing and watching sport.

The travel bug bit the now perpetual nomad early, and to date Steven has lived and worked on five continents, and visited almost seventy countries. Steven combines an age-old writing adage; Write what you know, with his own mantra; Write where you know, and sets most of his novels in places in which he has either lived or spent an extended period of time.

When not on the road, Steven divides his time between Norwich, UK, and Tacoma, USA, which he shares with his rescue cats Ernest Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald (Ernie and Fitz), and his rescue puppy, Charles Dickens. Oh yes, and his beautiful travel writer wife, Leslie.

A lifelong love of food, wine, and beer, have demanded a new-found love of yoga and hiking in order to fend off the imminent arrival of middle age.

Brilliant and intriguing next chapter in Hiram Kane’s life !

Brilliant and intriguing next chapter in Hiram Kane’s life !
Brilliant and intriguing next chapter in Hiram Kane’s life !The mystery was fantastic, Oak Island is very interesting and the mystery was exciting to read. What I loved most of all was that, after the things that happened in the previous novel in the series, Hiram Kane was not doing so well. It made me sympathize with him, hoping that he would pull himself together.Definitely a keeper !

This book sucked me in and would not let me go! I've been a fan of Steven Moore's books for a while. This is one of his best. Perhaps it's the subject matter. I've always been a sucker for the Oak Island stories. But he took it and set it on its ear. Following Kane around the world, with his narrow escapes ....
The ending was a definite surprise, but also a tad disappointing. It has hints of a cliffhanger. But the book itself was a heck of a ride! I loved it! Moore is an excellent writer and he outdid himself this time.

A clever plot indeed, but surely it is fiction. I’ve invested years following the Oak Island mystery and hope this not how it turns out. On the other hand, what an imaginative plot our author has devised. This book is certainly another genuine action thriller!

This is the 8th book of the series, and definitely the best. I can’t wait for the next. After the 1st book, I posted that it was ok, but hopefully the next would be better. It was worth the wait. Each succeeding book was better than the last. If you like reading a good series, I definitely recommend this one.

I almost stopped reading this before half read. Having lost a loved one to alcohol poisoning, the very descriptive phrases of abuse and self destruction brought back the feelings of helplessness and despair. Having watched the program on t.v. , I hoped that it would get to the point of the story. The content became more interesting for me and more hopeful for the lead character. If I recommend this book, it would be with a warning.

For much of the first chapters of the book, I felt Kane had lost his way forever. Reduced to a mulling drunkard, grieving his lost love or the guilt that he had driven her away, he was a shell of his former self.

His redemption? Offered a quest for lost treasure, while being pursued by turn-coat killers, the focus and dedication that has defined Kane came back to the fore.

For a while, I wallowed with Kane, but all’s well in the end.

Hiram Kane is in a real funk. Alex Ridley is temporarily out of his life. He meets Allison in the Halifax archives and the story really takes off. The mysterious Franscios came into Hiram’s life in Cambodia with an offer Hiram couldn’t refuse. The ending is a real surprise! This is a page turner!!

The "pity" for himself was much of the content which didn't sit well with me. I've always enjoyed Kane; however, he seemed somewhat off his game in this story.

Kane searches for treasure. Evil men try to kill him. I pre-ordered “Oak Island Enigma.” I liked the middle part best of all. “ Flamboyant” Ball. Lots of characters to move the action. Steven Moore writes very well.

Please read.

Lots of excitement , action and thrills as usual with Hiram Kane. I particularly liked the references to places in Nova Scotia - quite accurate geographically as I have been to many of the areas quoted in the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hiram is back

Hiram Kane is in a very bad place. Both emotionally and physically.

He hasn't had contact with Alexandria Ridley for several months and he knows that she is his anchor to help him cope, even if he never admits that.

He has told himself that he is done with treasure hunting and is just wandering around country to country whilst drinking himself into oblivion every day.

But whilst sitting in a bar in south east Asia Hiram met Francois and he asks hiram to share a drink and discuss the possibly of finding an old relic.

After hearing what Francois had to say Hiram was intrigued and this sets in motion for Hirams next adventure.

The story doesn't disappoint and is action packed throughout.
There are old friends that pop up aswell as new ones.
Steven also has put a little bit of humour in....(Avon calling)..if anyone old enough should get the meaning!
Glad to see Hiram back again.

Very far fetched in terms of action packed. But the story needed to be concluded I suppose. Just too far fetched in my opinion.

Hard to stay interested...Main character spent more time drinking in bars feeling sorry for himself than actually searching for treasure.

And what a welcome it is!

I’ve waited for the return of Mr Kane,& was delighted when Steve told me that one was is the offing.

Must admit I was a bit taken back in the first few chapters but what a ride. Not only is Hiram back but better than ever.

Absolutely brilliant. We’ll do e Mr Moore
