Product Description

Following on from the BAFTA-winning GRID and BAFTA-nominated GRID 2, GRID Autosport is the new racing game from Code masters that brings alive the experience of becoming a professional racing driver. Immersing gamers in a world of contemporary motorsport with a wide range of different disciplines and series, players will choose how to build and shape their career. It's a world of breadth, of depth, of intensity and, of course, of the excitement that only racing cars can deliver. Racing alongside a teammate, players must overcome key rivals and satisfy team sponsors in ferocious races where every pass and position counts. In GRID Autosport's huge career, gamers specialize in their favorite racing discipline or conquer them all; players will feel the aggression of the pack in Touring Cars, manage Tyre wear and race into the night in Endurance events, race Open-Wheel cars with precision, show car control in Tuner events and react on the fly in Street races. Each unique category features series dedicated to different classes, including Touring Cars, Hyper cars, Endurance GT Cars, Prototypes, Single-Seaters, Super Modified vehicles, Drift cars and many, many more. Bursting with content, GRID Autosport features over 100 routes across 22 incredible locations and the world's most exciting contemporary and classic high-performance racing cars to collect, tune and upgrade. GRID Autosport's features and tone have been shaped through consultation with the GRID community, professional racing drivers and the experts from AUTOSPORT magazine. This includes the return of an in-car view and the most authentic handling in a GRID game yet. Multiplayer racing is powered by RaceNet to deliver new challenges every week from launch and sees the introduction of all-new RaceNet Racing Clubs for online team competition. Party modes, Demolition Derby and competitive split-screen modes all compliment the game's extensive career mode and expansive core online game.

I was one of those guys who owned GRID (The first one) and loved it. It had the damage we craved that separated it from Forza and Gran Turismo. Then we waited forever until Grid 2 came out so we could get an updated and hopefully better version of the first game. Sadly this was a flop and only appealed to drift fans. Now Codemasters have redeemed themselves with Grid Autosport. This is NOT Grid or Grid 2 people! This is the perfect blend that toes the line between Simulation and Arcade extremely well.

Differences:

- Great presentation: From the opening menu to the graphics to the paddock menu during the race weekend this game has made a jump to act more like other big racing titles. It feels more professional, with easily negotiable options and a breakdown of car stats before races, a breakdown of options during a race weekend, and pretty good graphics for not being on a PS4.

- Career: You now have 5 separate divisions of racing (Touring, Endurance, Street, Tuner, and Open Wheel) plus the upper level Grid Challenge. Instead of racing for other teams until you earn enough for a Mustang (ala Grid 1) you now choose a team to race for that will tell you the XP bonus for completing challenges and which car you want, but you do have to race well to unlock better deals.

- Racing: The cars have a much more realistic feel. In Grid you have way more control during slides than in Autosport. In Autosport you have to drive the cars seriously. The rwd BMW Touring cars for example will get the best of you if you think that drifting is the best thing to do in them. As stated above you now have a paddock menu when you enter a race season. Here you get to either jump into the race (and start last...), qualify for a few laps with no restarts, practice for 10 minutes (you can enter and exit this as you wish to work on your car), and tune your car depending on how good your team is (some have minimal tuning available, others have medium, later you might get high levels of tuning). You can also control your teammates aggression level with the LB/RB or L1/R1 buttons on a console controller while getting feedback from your crew chief using the directional buttons.

PROS:
- Authentic racing presentation
- More realistic handling (You have to calculating instead of driving as aggressive as possible)
- Wide range of difficulty settings (Im on Very Hard and man is it a pain, but its challenging)
- Tuning
- Season layout is well done giving you the keys to start where you want while giving you plenty of cars to go through.
- More tracks (Abu Dabai, Hockenheim, Sepang, Circuit of the Americas, etc).
- Lots of rubbing between AI
- Split Screen action and options (keeps track of which player wins the most events in one session regardless if you pick one race or a playlist it will keep the numbers updated until you leave the game mode).

CONS:
- Cannot turn of penalty for going over white lines (Needs to be turned down, there is a big difference between cutting the track and me making a small mistake and going over the lines barely)
- AI ramming you off the track causing you to get penalties (What frustrates me most right now)
- AI having no clue how to take a corner when you are inside of them (They will turn into the apex regardless if you are there or not, this will cause the game to think you cut a corner if they shove you below the lines...)

I have had this game for a day and it is fantastic. It has improved so much and it is great that Codemasters realized their mistakes from GRID 2 and went back to the game's roots. If I could turn off the penalties for cutting the track (or if they are made more lenient through updates) this would be my favorite racing game in a long time. It is a blast whether you race demo derby cars, hot hatches, touring cars, open wheel, endurance... you get the point. I can't believe I got this for $33 practically right after it came out.

If you think NFS games are too casual and enjoy Forza/ Gran Tourismo your gonna want this game in your collection. The last sim racing game I played was Forza 4 and I played that game to death. Compared to that, GRID Autosport focuses much less on car selection and customization (though there is some of that) and much more on the racing experience. The actual racing in this game is leaps and bounds above the racing in Forza. I actually FEEL like I am fighting my way to the front of the pack. In Forza I would make it to 1st place in the first lap (hard difficulty, manual shifting) and after that I might as well have been racing alone. In Grid you struggle the whole race to make it to first, butting bumpers getting side rammed by the AI the whole way to the front of the pack and after you make it yo have to maintain that intensity to finish first. At no point will you look behind you and see open track. The feeling is extremely gratifying.

The career mode is unlike anything I've seen. You chose from 5 disciplines: Touring, Endurance, F1, Street and Tuner. You chose whichever you want and rank up in each individually. Dont enjoy one career path? You never have to race that path if you dont want! Definitely a unique way to approach the career mode and it works.

Visuals 5/5
Cars look true to like, not that overly glossy look Forza had. Tracks are gorgeous. They feel wide, have varying terrain, and will immerse you into the experience. Nothing like the roar of the crowd when finishing a lap and having the video chopper fly from above. Doors will tear off of cars after collisions. Tires will pop. **** gets real in this one.

Sound 5/5
Yes. Everything sounds ***** great. The engines, the turbos, the tires, the collisions, the choppers, the crowd. It all sounds true to life on my 10 year old surround sound.

Gameplay 4/5
Hard but gratifying. If your collection of racing games is Mario Kart and NFS/ Burnout your gonna have a learning curve. Dedicated racing fans will be satisfied. Nothing like fighting your way to 1st place from 16th.

Overall 9/10
You may never of heard of the Grid series, I know I didn't, but if you like races where you dont just drift around every single corner in your Bugatti give this series a chance.
