Jasper Vale

Rate this book
From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Devney Perry comes a small town, fake relationship romance .

Eloise Eden’s pride and joy is her family’s hotel in Quincy, Montana. Her lifelong dream is to own The Eloise Inn. All she has to do is prove to her parents that she’s the epitome of responsible. That her days of being duped and making reckless decisions are history. She’s so close she can taste it.

Until after one weekend in Las Vegas, she comes home married to a stranger.

Jasper must have put her under a spell with those soul-deep eyes because after a single night together, they woke up husband and wife. Her only hope is to keep this marriage a secret until it’s annulled. Then she’ll pretend it never happened.

Except Jasper begs her to stay married. To fake it for three months so she can accompany him to a wedding. Maybe she’s lost her mind to agree. But her brooding husband seems desperate. It’s only three months, right? Then she’ll say goodbye to Jasper Vale, and with any luck, hello to her new hotel.

second book i've read today where i wanted a little less fucky sucky and a little more talky walky. we get it, ur a damaged hero. but the one conversation where u bare ur soul isn't enough to make up for the fact that you've never asked the girl you are consistently railing what her favorite color is or how she likes her eggs in the morning.

still enjoyed this book though. and extra points for the comment about fingers in the ole corn hole that took me by surprise.

Hopefully Jasper will be a real hero, like in the first two books and not a pathetic coward like Foster who never puts Talia first. The Eden siblings deserve nothing but the best 😤. I am protective of them 💓 lol 😆
REVIEW

Sadly he was not. I did not enjoy reading this book . Some of the plotlines were very badly handled especially the conflict at the end. I think the author should have instead explored more of the Jasper and Eloise's family's dynamic and how he starts to enjoy their company. Also despite the OW not being actually present in most of the book, the whole journey of Jasper and Eloise got spoiled for me after Jasper confessed certain things to her like < spoiler >"marrying Eloise at the same venue where he and his ex wife got married , etc.
But at least he is slightly better than that coward Foster. I was literally so mad whenever he was mentioned in the book. LOL
I just feel like Devney has set the bar so high with the Eden brothers that it's really difficult to not compare other MCs with them.
But I just have a good feeling that the 5th book is going to be really good. Fingers crossed.

this series is copy and paste but i can’t stop reading 💀

i really had the highest expectations for jasper’s book cause i thought he was so spicy in garnet flats but he fell well…flat

there were definitely some scenes, especially in the beginning, where i was digging the whole “fake but real marriage” trope and the “fake married but friend’s with benefits”. it garnered some hot lines—

“The next time you talk about any other man inside this body, I’ll spank your ass so red you won’t sit for a week.”

i meannnnn suddenly i’d be giving him all the intimate details about these past relationships 🤭

to give a super quick summary of the plot, eloise (h) and jasper (H) get married in vegas while drunk. they then make a deal and hide the “fake-ness” of their marriage so eloise doesn’t lose her hotel and for jasper’s revenge.

anywho its time to get into the nitty gritty details

💫 spoilers below 💫

although no one could possibly surpass foster’s record as an asshole, jasper is a distant second. NO WONDER THEY’RE BESTIES 🚮🚮🚮

not even jasper saving eloise’s life could make up for his shitty behavior throughout the book

⇢ jasper still talks to his ex-wife despite “hating” her and even speaks to her while in a relationship with eloise?? sure, eloise and jas were nowhere near acknowledging their feelings for each other but it was truly off-kilter when he spoke to her

and it wasn’t even just him talking to her..it was WHAT he talked to her about—

“Tell me. Does she make you lose your mind? Does she rake her nails down your back and leave marks?”
“Yes. It’s the best sex I’ve ever had.”

like are you actually kidding with this 🤢 he’s trying to hurt his ex by bragging about his sex-life with eloise?!

⇢ to make it worse, the whole reason behind them hiding how they got married is because eloise is on thin ice with her parents and they’re just getting over something that almost cost her the family hotel. jasper on the other hand wanted to use it to prove his estranged family wrong and make his ex-wife jealous at her wedding 🤡🤡

please the whole revenge trope lasting THE WHOLE FUCKING BOOK DRAINED MY SOUL FROM MY BODY. just when i thought he would finally say, “you know what eloise, aka the love of my life, fuck revenge and fuck my shitty family. i love you and i don’t want to attend my cheating ex’s wedding to spite her”

JOKES ON ME! my first mistake was ever trusting someone who was best friends with foster ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

⇢ don’t even LET me forget about how jasper had been hiding that he’d been looking for jobs opportunities for after he and eloise’s deal was finally over and they got divorced…he didn’t even tell eloise about it, he just randomly goes one day, “oh btw im driving to vegas (from montana) for an interview”

“What are you doing?”
“I need to go on a trip.”
I blinked. “A trip? When?”
“Tonight.”

yes, just “casually driving 15 hours and back for a job interview, not because i’m trying to put as much distance between eloise and i as possible”

he even claims it was “last minute” interview, yet had the time to stock her entire fridge and prepare her pre-cooked meals while he was away???BUT IT WAS LAST MINUTE THO GUYS DONT WORRY CAUSE HE SAID SO ☺️👍🏻

⇢ to make matters even worse because apparently they can get worse, jasper only realizes that he doesn’t feel anything for his ex…AT HER WEDDING—

I studied Sam, waiting for that familiar heartache and resentment to flood my veins. Instead, more nothing.
It should have felt different, seeing her again after all this time. How many years had I spent fixated on that woman? How many hours had I dwelled on the past? Countless. Every one of them pointless.

i’m so glad you finally woke up from your delusion jasper ☺️ it only took you months with eloise and up until the moment you finally laid eyes on that bitch for the first time in years

senior citizen edens

honestly tho, the real villains of this whole story, if not the entire series, is actually the eloise’s parents…the way they treat eloise is horrific. they take the hotel away from her because she got too emotionally attached to an employee and somehow it was her fault she got sued over it

they make her feel like every screw up will make her lose the hotel, which is why she hid the circumstances of her marriage with jasper. her mother even forced her to hire a psycho child, who wasn’t qualified in the first place, who then tried to kill her

despite eloise knowing this kid wasn’t the right fit, she felt like she couldn’t fire him before he went all psycho killer because her mom would use it against her. then by the end of the story, all is forgiven just because they finally give her the hotel and make her the owner. THEY NEVER EVEN SAID CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MARRIAGE OR APOLOGIZED FOR HOW THEY TREATED HER?!

finally, the last sentence of this book gave me the biggest ick—

Four months later, with our daughter growing inside me, my husband took me back to Paris.

oh shut up, i hope you divorce his stupid ass

i really give up at this point. sorry for the rant but i needed that cleanse 🧘🏻‍♀️

"Eloise Eden was mine.
And I was hers.
Until the end."

Like small town romances with accidental marriage, marriage of convenience and fake relationship? Then this one is for you.

Eloise and Jasper truly show that opposites attract and can make it work. The chemistry is present and the heat and spice is off the charts. I thoroughly enjoyed reading both swoon worthy moments and spicy ones, it was balanced aptly.

The pacing kind of threw me off, and the dramatics were a bit much which is what makes it an average read for me despite the good moments. One thing am really glad for is that there was no love triangle situation.

Overall, so much better than Garnet Flats. Cannot wait to read Crimson River- it sounds badass.

You know when you read a book and it exceeds your expectations SO MUCH you don’t want to finish it? You want to go slow and savor it? Well I binged this book because I COULD NOT get enough of these two. I loved it beyond words. And it wholly surpassed my expectations.

Eloise Eden is trying to show her parents she’s a responsible 26-year-old, ready to inherit full ownership of the Eloise Inn. After a drunken night in Vegas, a lost jacket, and a run in Jasper Vale, accidentally getting married in Vegas is probably not the best way to show her parents she’s responsible. Jasper is trying to figure out what he wants to do after his training gig is up. He didn’t expect to get married in Vegas and stuck in Quincy, Montana any longer. The two of them vow to stick with their fake marriage until an upcoming wedding. What neither of them expected was to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER.

I adored Eloise. She’s hardworking, so caring, and determined to not let anyone down. She gives her all to every person in her life. Jasper is a misunderstood sad boy who’s rough around the edges and needed someone to show him what it’s like to love and be loved. And Eloise was perfect for him. I loved their chemistry and how Eloise always filled the silence for him. And THE CRINKLE-EYED SMILES he gave her. My heart is still swelling. Not to mention this man’s MOUTH. Hands down hottest book Devney has written and I’m still not over it.

This series is one of my favorite small town romances. They never miss. I can’t wait for Lyla’s book!!

OMG!! This book is awesome and I LOVED it so much!! 🥰🥰Jasper Vale is the fourth book in “The Edens” series and is my favorite so far. It was about Eloise and Jasper and their journey. The connection, angst and chemistry between them was so hot 🔥🔥!! All of my expectations were exceeded and more!! If you like a small town romance, fake marriage and grumpy/sunshine trope then this read is for you. I highly recommend reading this book and I can’t wait for Lyla’s story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No exception I loved it literally devoured it. 💛

Miss Perry has a way of putting two prefect strangers into a marriage that none of them is thrilled about and draw them from it in the end as veritable soulmates. Every single book of hers with the marriage of convenience trope is a chief kiss, if you asked me.

Eloise will always be my favorite Eden. No debate needed here, since her first appearance on the first book in the series I knew l would fall in love with her own love story. She was the epitome of kindness with such a pure soul and tender heart but at the same time could get so protective and fierce towards the people she cares about. Her character was absolutely everything I love in a female mc.

Fun fact: When I first met Jasper’s character in Garnet Flats , I don’t know why I thought he was a much older guy. In my head we were in a 'One Million Dollar Baby ' retelling minus the heartbreaking ending, imagine my surprise when I learned he was only thirty three.

Jasper was an interesting character to say the least. Even if his dynamic and missed-up relationship with his ex-wife triggered me a little, ngl. I absolutely adored his persona and how he treated Eloise. Faking it or not he was just perfect . I really enjoyed learning about his past and his family along the way with Eloise, the more he confided the more I was choked but the bond between the two of them solidified the more Jasper opened up. Both of them needed each other, they complemented each other. He needed a compagne that he could trust blindly and she needed someone who could pull her out of her confort zone but also accept her with her tender heart.

I didn’t expect the author to join Eloise’ book with some pretty explicit scenes, it was a lot more detailed and spicy then all the others but I was here for it😋 plus all the "My wife".

there was so much i loved about this: seeing my fav characters again, being back in quincy, marriage of convenience + fake marriage + accidental marriage? i don’t even know but it worked!!!

the way jasper and eloise are the most opposite ever but yet they just match and click. the chemistry really delivered.

with that being said, there was a lot i didn’t love as well. jasper’s past storyline for instance… why🧍🏻‍♀️and i felt like we could’ve had some more tension between them. the mystery also really came out of nowhere for me.

regardless tho, i had a fabulous time. missed quincy so so much. cant wait for layla’s book!!!!

every single book in this series has been absolutely perfect, and this book was no exception. a drunken night in vegas ends with jasper & eloise finding themselves saying ‘I do.’ but when the buzz wears off and they’re back in montana, they realize this marriage could help each of them get something they want. so a drunken mistake leads to them putting on the best show, convincing everyone around them just how in love they are. or maybe they aren’t acting at all 👀

i’ve been so excited for eloise’s book ever since we first met her, and i loved getting to learn more about her and watch her fall in love 💕 she is so selfless and kind, and truly hilarious. i just loved her so much.

jasper is broody and a little damaged and never had anyone put him first or love him in the way he deserves. until eloise. two opposites who are so perfectly matched and who would go to war for the other. they both love so fiercely, and their love story is the sweetest (and spiciest ❤️‍🔥) ✨ i loooved getting to see the rest of the eden family, and was so happy to spend so much time with the characters from the first 3 books, always feels like coming home.

Obsessed with Jasper and Eloise. Would happily become Mrs Vale myself thank you very much.

Can’t believe I have to wait until September for Lyla’s story *cry*.

EDIT (07/03/23):- I was driving in my car to work this morning thinking about when Eloise said "I cuddled. And Jasper held me." Because he isn’t a cuddler but she is and so he cuddles FOR her.😭😭 I am a MESS please.

Jasper Vale is the fourth book in The Edens and my favorite of the series so far! After the way the third book ended, I knew this one was going to be good and I wasn't disappointed!

Accidently married in Vegas to a temporary marriage of convivence- yes please! Jasper had some issues due to his upbringing and parents, but he warmed up in a big way. Every time he called Eloise 'my wife'... ahhh! I loved it. I do wish . Overall this was a huge win and I can't wait to get to the next book!

Oh my goodness! I freaking loved this.. as I knew I would. This entire series has me in a chokehold I swear.

First of all, Jasper Vale has a MOUTH. I think this book was the spiciest of the entire series honestly and I am not mad.

I loved that this was so different from the others throughout most of the book but then towards the end I did get a little Indigo Ridge vibes as well.

Eloise is a fmc that I could totally vibe with. She is so kind hearted and caring and I just loved her from the start.

Devney Perry is the best at writing romance with the absolute best freaking plots ever. Each book always leaves me guessing throughout and my jaw on the floor towards the end.

After the ending of book three in this series, I was so excited for Jasper and Eloise's book, especially since it was a married in Vegas book. When the audio dropped early, I had to grab it! I will say, I wasn't the biggest fan of the male narrator, so that might be why it took me a bit to get into this one. I also felt like the beginning was rush over and I would have loved to see more of Jasper and Eloise getting married and their initial attraction to one another. Instead, we skipped over that pretty quickly and were back in Eden where they decided to stay married. I did love Jasper's character and he would go all "that's my wife" when it came to Eloise. They had explosive chemistry and this book definitely delivered on the spice. When the other women drama came in during the second half, though, I wasn't the biggest fan of that conflict. I don't like catty women who try to get involved in other people's lives and ruin their relationships, so I could have done without that plot, especially when that involved quite a few other people. But overall this was still a solid read in the Eden series and I already can't wait for the next book!

oooff… this was a let down.
in my opinion, this felt completely disconnected from the entire series.

i don’t even know where to start honestly.

TW / animal cruelty/killing, mentions of school shootings, stalking

characters -
eloise and jasper were BORING. i didn’t believe or feel any chemistry between them at all. in the previous books eloise was so cute & mouthy. she felt so watered down, and completely detached from this story. it honestly was more about jasper and his ex then anything else! he was so selfish at times, and it made me mad.
we never saw them together, and we never saw them grow as a couple. i’m all for smut in my books, but genuinely it seemed like the only thing keeping them together was because they enjoyed the sex.
one of the things i love about this series is the family dynamics. i love seeing the family members, and how much they love each other. this book held none of that until 1 page in the very end.
the parents felt like completely different people. they were so kind, caring and giving in the previous books but were so tough on eloise and treated her completely different from the other siblings. it made absolutely no sense to me.

plot -
the premise was so good. i love fake marriage/marriage of convenience but the execution was not there. i truly did not care about jaspers ex & the phone calls between them were So weird. it genuinely made me so uncomfortable. like we spend 50-60% hearing about this ex, and really the whole reason they stayed married was because of her, and it got handled in one tiny scene? like it made no sense. it felt like this huge build up with absolutely no pay off.
also, the plot twist at the end .. absolutely uncalled for??? it turned so dark and grim for No reason whatsoever. it really felt like the author knew the ex scene was boring so she had to throw something in. it felt copied from the first two books, and just deeply unsettled me.

there also was completely NO COMMUNICATION. these characters would go like days or a week without talking WHILE LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE. like i’m sorry but how am i suppose to root for them to be married if they cannot even communicate?? THIS WAS AFTER SHE ASKED HIM TO TRY TOO.
ugh i’m sorry i’m done ranting

now, there were things i liked about this book. i did enjoy 3-4 moments between eloise and jasper. i think the very last sentence in the epilogue was probably the sweetest part of the whole book lmfao. it was nice to see the rest of the family, but i genuinely just did not care for eloise or jasper.

i do say, this is definitely a book i can see people liking, but it just wasn’t for me.

4.5⭐️ I missed being in Quincy so much!! I have been so excited for Jasper and Eloise’s story ever since reading Garnet Flats and let me tell you it didn’t disappoint.

Their love story might’ve been out of the ordinary but these two are true soulmates. The accidental marriage + marriage of convenience storyline was so good. These two are complete opposites but their chemistry was off the charts. The spice in this book?? wow is all I can say. 🥵

The way Jasper was so protective and caring towards Eloise and the way Eloise helped him open up to the idea of loving again made my heart so happy. They truly deserve the absolute world. I can’t wait for Lyla’s book next. 💛

A miss for me

When the hero's ex influences the plot from start to finish, it certainly puts a damper on things. Beyond the complete and utter lack of communication between this newly married couple, it felt like every time I started to get into the story, the hero's ex would be mentioned again in some way that would be totally off-putting. She's kinda/sorta the reason they got married, she's kinda/sorta the reason their sex life was front and center, she's kinda/sorta the reason why they continued fighting... it all felt kinda/sorta toxic, and just too much. I'll be the first to admit that this series has been uneven for me (I loved Juniper Hill though!), but I was excited for this particular installment. It features tropes that are some of my favorites, so it SHOULD have been a home run. And it did not take long at all to realize that just wasn't the case.

The story follows Eloise and Jasper, two near-strangers who drunkenly decide to get married while in Vegas. While the two are loosely connected by Eloise's family, they hadn't spent any time together before getting hitched. So it's no surprise that they both woke up with regrets, and an annulment seems to be in their future. Unfortunately, Eloise has been trying to show her parents that she's responsible enough to run the family hotel by herself, and getting drunkenly married in Vegas is probably not the way to do it. Jasper has his own reasons for wanting to put on a happy front, so the two agree to fake their relationship for the foreseeable future. But as these two newlyweds move in together and continue to heat up the sheets, they realize that there might be more to their relationship than either expected.

On paper, this sounds right up my alley. I love a good Vegas wedding romance, fake relationships are my favorite, and I've enjoyed other installments in the series. However, something was off about this one from the start. Eloise and Jasper don't communicate with each other for so long that it would feel like a spoiler to tell you when they finally get their act together, lol. That doesn't seem to stop them from banging as much as possible, so it felt like an f-buddies situation between spouses that transformed into love somewhere along the way. I wish we'd seen more of the transformation. Instead, a significant chunk of the story is devoted to references to Jasper's previous relationship, and every piece we discovered just made me cringe more and more. It felt like that toxic relationship drove much of the toxicity in present day, and these two couldn't escape that old situation. Again, it'd be spoiling major parts of the storyline to go into detail, but I was really not comfortable with just how much Jasper's ex influenced the evolution of Eloise and Jasper's marriage. I was at least considering a 3-star rating until the final few scenes, which were simply unnecessary. Like... that drama did not need to happen at all. So, I really wanted to get into this, but there were near-constant roadblocks getting in the way.

Audio note: Not a fan of the audio either, sorry! I listened to both Indigo Ridge and Juniper Hill on audio, and those were both so well done that I didn't hesitate to dive into the audio for this one. The female narrator, Lucy Rivers, was fine - not a favorite, but fine. Lance Greenfield, on the other hand, was awful. His narration made Jasper feel like a caricature; a complete over-performance that made me dislike the audio immediately. Since the audio ended up releasing about a week before the ebook, I stuck with it longer than I would've liked - and finished the book up with the text version. If you can handle Greenfield's voice, then the audio itself is well done. It's also the perfect runtime for bingeing, though the high steam level/frequent spicy scenes don't make it a good choice for a workday listen. I don't really recommend the book as a whole, and I can't give the audio my stamp of approval either.

I had high hopes for the accidentally-married-in-Vegas trope, but alas, this was a disappointment. I didn't feel the love between Jasper & Eloise at all, just lust and attraction. At this point, I think Juniper Hill is a one-hit-wonder for me from this series.

this was all lust + insta love and no romance, just like the first book. the beginning was hot. the dirty talking had me going for a while, and i was seriously considering planting myself across Jaspers lap just so he could spank my ass red. in the end, i could not with his pathetic, lonely, damaged hero routine. Eloise was fine, but she felt like a doormat at times. i judged her for not standing up to her parents cause it just made them seem like the villain and her the victim instead of parents & daughter. so, this was not great, but there were still parts of the book that i enjoyed (even though ive already forgotten what those were). 👉👈 🏃‍♀️

The best thing about this one is that I think we can all relate to making stupid decisions and not wanting the people around us to judge us for THOSE decisions only?

I loved everything about Eloise! She’s sweet and just wants to be taken seriously while she learns!? Not to mention that sometimes the best relationships come out of trial by fire situations 💕💕

Devney Perry consistently never ever misses! I am just amazed at her writing with each book she releases and Jasper Vale is no different.

Fake dating/Fake marriage is my top tier romance trope. The tension, the feelings that develop that characters try to fight and the ultimate will they or wont they stay together anxiety (dont forget this is romance so they always will stay together!) Thank you Devney for not making Jasper and Eloise into a third act break up trope either - highly appreciate it when a story can avoid that.

Jasper Vale and Eloise get drunk in vegas and decide to get married but instead of divoricing they stay together for a few months...why you ask?? She doesn't want to seem irresposible in front of her parents and he needs a date to his ex's wedding in Italy. They have to live under the same roof to really sell the fake marriage thing.

I love and adored Jasper. He is the silent and alone type you love and know has a deeper side to him as well. It was amazing to see him be there for Eloise and helping her understand she is deserving of success and is capable of achieving anything she wants. He is such a supportive rock to her.

The spice in this! Spiciest of all Edens that is 100% damn sure - the mouth on this mannnnn!

the magic of the edens + lots of 'my wife'... what could be better honestly?

eloise and jasper drunkenly get married in vegas and when they wake up the next morning and realize what they've done, eloise says sry g2g talk l8r. a girl after my own heart. jasper tracks his wife back down in quincy and they're both like 'yeah we can't stay married. i was gonna say the same thing... but what's YOUR reason?' except eloise could use this to her advantage to finally make the inn hers and jasper realizes he could use a date to his ex's wedding and what's better than a wife?

this series is just so special, truly, and this book was no exception. jasper and eloise are the perfect example of opposites attract who balance each other out perfectly. this is also the spiciest of devney's books and eloise and jasper are HOT ok.

i just wanted to give eloise a hug the whole time. i related to her so hard. she gave so much of herself to everyone else but never felt good enough and jasper came right in and said 'none of that, you're perfect just the way you are.' our fave eden brothers got a little carried away with their sister and jasper stood up for her time after time.

now i NEED lyla's happily ever after.

"This is enough."
"This is a private conversation."
"You´re yelling at my wife."

This is a two POV book, told by the POV´s of Jasper and Eloise.

I loved Jasper´s and Eloise´s relationship, it gives of grumpy x sunshine vibes with her being all bubbly and talkative, having a big heart and being soft on peope, and him being all broody and grumpy. This is kind of a second chance romance as well, but I wouldn´t say it´s really a slow-burn, it´s more insta love but even as somebody who normally doesn´t really like that trope I have to admit that it was really cute. Jasper is such a book boyfriend. I mean get you a man who flies you out to Paris on a whim just because you say it´s your favorite city.....

I really liked how Mateo got thrown into the story in this book. It definitely felt like the setting up for the sixth book (which I am guessing will be his). I liked having all the others involved as side characters and having their story lines continue as well, I just wish I would have gotten a little bit more from Talia.

I really liked the romance and the smut in this one, the relationship between Jasper and Eloise was so cute but I feel like some of the arguments were a teeny bit too easily forgiven. Like girl you are allowed to be mad at him, you know!? Even if he is all cute and groveling and trying. The pacing was good, it felt fast paced and I didn´t have a moment where I thought "okay I need to put this down for a moment" and instead read it in one sitting. I liked the mentions of the Clover Chapel from the Jamison Valley series, I felt like that kind of connected the series to each other. Towards the 3/4 mark the book got a bit wild. Holy shit, this one got so dark towards the end pretty quickly, I think at least half of the trigger warnings are from that ending, so please check them. All things consided this still has a HEA.

Overall it was a cute romance that I really enjoyed and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

trigger warnings: loss of loved ones, dysfunctional family, animal abuse/killing of animals (mentioned), harrassment/stalking, attempted murder, domestic abuse (mentioned), bullying (mentioned), school shootings (mentioned), murder
