The lens is Average - Plus.
The camera takes nice photos, it has a quick AF, a nice screen that has the unfortunate and awkward flip out to the side design instead of the more user friendly and useful compact tilt.
The camera handles well, and stings your wallet to own it.
I find the battery life to be just fine.
I find the indoor photos to be better then expected but not "omg great".
The Canon PS-G1XMK3 has a slight shutter lag that i noticed right away.
The G1X M3's IQ is the same as the EOS-5, which is to say, quite nice, tho honestly, the EOS-M5 is a superior camera, not only in build quality, but in design and style.
So, if you can be happy without a lot of Tele at your disposal, then this surprisingly small and user friendly Canon PSG1M3 takes nice photos for you, with very little effort..
The camera also has a dedicated macro button on the back dial, which is for me, important, as i shoot a lot of macro shots, however, this is a non-event, as engaging it does not let you get any closer to your small object then if its not engaged.... ummmmm what?
Yes, correct......all that happens, once you press the "flower" button, is that the lens captures a slightly wider field of view, yet without letting you get any closer....not ANY closer then not using the macro setting.
Isn't that odd? So, in this case, the Canon EOS - M5 slays this camera's macro feature as the M5 will let you get really close and that includes sharp as a tack photos.
So, If you buy it, you wont feel that you wasted your money, but you also wont feel that you under paid to own it.
@ $950.00 this would be the King of its class, but its not, so, ....... still a nice camera.
Finally, in my opinion this camera feels very delicate, including the lens mechanism and the push button on/off, so, it does have seem to have the feeling , overall, that the camera is disposable, similar to the feeling you get with any of the Sony RX-100s, and unlike, say, anything ever made by Fuji.
Below, u see 4 photos.....all taken on "P" with 1600 Max limit.. "Fine" pic setting, +6 sharpening, +1 contrast, AutoWhite balance for all photos.... 1.) Guitar headstock, outside, overcast, some (ipiccy) online photo editing sharping applied post camera Jpeg.....2. Hawk meets Pigeon, slightly overcast day, straight camera Jpeg, ..3.) One thing I CANNOT stand to use is manual focus. It is UNBELIEVABLY slow. It doesn't even make sense how slow it is! I've never dealt with a manual focus this slow! Actually, that deserves another star knocked off and to be the title. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if it's manual focus that is slow or if it's generally the continuous ring that is slow regardless of what it's being used for. I set it up for manual focus.
The switching between auto and manual focus is also obnoxious. On the m50's lens and on my 6d's L lens, I can manually focus, but then easily auto focus. On the g1x, if I manually focus then decide I'd rather auto focus, I have to manually switch back to auto focus. Which is just obnoxious.
Again, wish they'd update their firmware as their technology improves.
Aside from my hatred of the manual focus, it's a decent "pocket" camera.

Pros: Has a viewfinder and rotatable touch screen.
Cons: High price for the camera, including the camera accessories sold by Canon. The camera does not come with the "Camera User Guide". The manual is available only for downloading.
