I am very impressed with the router and the performance it offers. My previous router was an Asus 1900ac and I it was a great router for many years. The router, however, began to fail and became unstable. I had to constantly reboot my router and I hated the Asus UI too.
My family has over 15 devices and we stream all of our content and media on our TV and devices. I immediately noticed a huge improvement with the speed of the router and my devices no longer struggle when they are all connected to the router. I did get a little over zealous and I ran CAT 6 cable to my Smart TV, Apple TV, and Gaming PC. You can tell that the network is now more stable and the devices do not put a strain on the network signal.
As for setup, this was by far the easiest router to setup. I took the router out of the box, plugged in my ethernet cable from my modem, went through the setup process on my PC, and the router was up an functioning in minutes.
Warning: Immediately disable the “Smart Connect” feature once you access the D-Link UI. This will cause your devices to get confused, lost, and lose their network connection. As soon as I disabled this feature, the network was super reliable and fast. I actually like having the three different bandwidths separated because I can prioritize and place specific devices at each frequency.
I would recommend this router to anyone who wants an easy setup, blazing fast connectivity speeds, signal reliability, easy installation, easy software interface, and the ability to remotely control or check your network. I ordered the D-Link security camera system and I can't wait to see how well they work with the D-Link App. I will update my post after I receive them and test them out.
Pros:
- Great for multiple devices
- Great network speed with AC WiFi devices
- Stability is rock solid
- Easy to setup and use
- D-Link App and remote access is a wonderful feature. I love that I can check on my system at any time and I can notification if a new device connects to my router.
Cons:
- You have to disable the "Smart Connect.” This by no means is a big deal but having to do this was frustrating.
- The single distance is below average. Now, I do have a two story home with a basement and the router is not int he center of the house. There is plenty of signal for my devices but I saw a dip in the 2.4 GHZ frequency. distance
The router UI is very basic but my Asus router UI features were confusing and unreliable.
Installation: The router was fairly easy to install, and pretty easy to attach to TV's, Roku's, phones, tablets, laptops and all. I would have liked a little more documentation on sharing the USB attachments, the VPN setup, and other advanced features. I've not gone to any effort to segregate the traffic so far, and I haven't found any documentation that tells me how to do so. If advanced/unusual features are critical for you, you may want to do some additional research before buying this modem.
Initial performance: We've had some portions of our house where the wife never reached. Over a period of years I've tried range extenders, powerline adapters, bridges, etc. with mediocre results. This router rocks! Our range is greatly extended and the quality of service throughout and around the house is excellent.
Devices: After a couple of days, our Dell Venu tablet wigged out and refused to connect to the WAN via wifi (LAN still worked), but this was resolved through Dell Support by deleting and re-installing the wireless adapter driver. Everything else worked super well. We'll have a bigger test in a couple of months when we go from the typical 15 or so connected devices to around 30 when the kids come home.
Overall: At this point I am thrilled with this router. It was expensive, but at this point appears to be well worth the money.

One week update. After a few days, several connected devices lost the ability to connect to the router. After deleting the Wifi Adapter device in Windows Device Manager and then scanning for "new" hardware to rediscover it, they started working again. Hoping this is a one time thing.
There was some difficulty in coverage to a certain portion of the house, but by moving the router (farther away, but away from the wall) and repositioning the antennas, this was easily overcome. Still loving the results, but wishing it had better features and documentation.
Top reviews from other countries
Pros:
1) Simple user interface and easy setup
2) Tri-band SmartConnect technology for optimum device allocation
3) DLNA and USB compatibility to wirelessly stream media from USB device
Cons:
1) Size: very bulky, make sure you have sufficient space before you order
2) Range is not very high - Although SmartBeam focuses the signal to your device, the overall range of this router is quite average
3) No management tools - Cannot monitor bandwidth usage by device - a feature that is present in even basic ASUS routers
Summary:
WiFi is only as fast as the slowest device connected, as each device has to wait it's turn before accessing the network. If you have a high speed internet connection and a large number of devices, this router will significantly improve performance, as devices can communicate on 3 separate bands. The USB connectivity is also very good, so if you're planning to host a home media server, good option.
For any other purposes, I wouldn't suggest this one, as all AC routers work similarly. If you have fewer devices, you can opt for AC1200 routers, which operate at the same speed
