So my 15-year-old daughter and I were talking about something she's feeling stuck about (can't say what, she'd kill me). Michael's book was sitting on the coffee table. I picked it up and said, 'Pick a number.' She did, I read her the quote that is attached to that number, and she actually had a little breakthrough. If a 15-year-old can get unstuck using this amazing little gem, so can you. -

Engaging, useful and beautifully designed. In fact, I can't think of a book that I've ever seen that was as attractive and fun to read.

A powerful blend of creativity and action, Get Unstuck & Get Going is as practical as it is provocative. A terrific tool for coaches and clients alike!

“My name is Michael. I can hop. Do you want to see me hop?” That’s how I introduced myself to strangers at the supermarket when I was three. Not much has changed. Here’s the formal bio (best bits at the end).

Michael Bungay Stanier is at the forefront of shaping how organizations see coaching as an essential leadership competency. His book The Coaching Habit is the best-selling coaching book of this century, with over a million copies sold. In 2019, he was named the #1 thought leader in coaching, and he has spoken on coaching from Brené Brown's podcast to the TEDx stage.

Michael founded Box of Crayons, a learning and development company that helps organizations transform from advice-driven to curiosity-led. He currently leads MBS.works, a place where people find the clarity, confidence and community to be a force for change.

En route to today—and these are essential parts of his origin story—Michael knocked himself unconscious as a labourer by hitting himself in the head with a shovel; mastered stagecraft at law school by appearing in a skit called Synchronized Nude Male Modelling; and wrote (and was paid for) a Harlequin Romance-esque story involving a misdelivered letter … and called The Male Delivery. He was a Rhodes Scholar.

I read The Coaching Habit, and saw Michael speak at one of my company's events, and loved his approach. I came across this book shortly after, and ordered it right away. I have tried it on my 14 year old, and 16 year old, as well as my (age withheld) wife, and we all loved that it challenged us to think differently about the "issue" we were having. It got us out of the box of thinking we were in on the following places we were stuck:
* Not enough friends
* Self-confidence
* Work issues with boss
* Writing objectives - what to write about next.

I was feeling particular stuck in a rut when Box of Crayons email came me. The title of the book piqued my curiosity as did the video. AND when I saw my my friend, Peter Block endorsed it; I bought the book.

Really enjoying this book. Yes, I do keep it on my desk, unless I've taken it with me to a meeting. Lots of wisdom in the quotes and thought provoking stories and questions.

I'm grateful Michael put this together for all of us. Getting stuck is easy for me. Getting unstuck has not been. This book is a huge help.

Love having this on my desk to flip through whenever my brain freezes, and needs some stimulation to get going again.

This book I will recommend to any Entrepreneur, manager, artist, politician or just a lover of life. Probably the best book I have ever seen in design and I had such great ideas from the questions and models. Amazing stuff!

I saw Michael Bungay Stanier at a self-development symposium with other self-dev guru types and had to buy it. He has great insights and I enjoy is daily mantras etc. He is funny too which makes it all the more enjoyable. The reason I'm tepid on this book is that I'm sort of a self - development groupie. I'm obsessed with the field and so I've read, listened, attended in person seminars of fifty or so of the top self development professionals. Perhaps I'm a snob but I think for where I'm at, I was looking for a more "meatier" read. It reads sort of like a power point slide show.

This book is most powerful in its simplicity. The serendipity of finding one storie, one quote and one model allows you to leverage the power of your own mind to unlock a solution and develop a personal plan for whatever is making you stuck.
