The Easy Intel CPU Performance Upgrade

Your PC will run cooler and quieter when you replace your CPU’s standard heatsink with a Hydro Series H55.

Installation is straightforward: if you can get to the back of your PC’s motherboard, you can install an H55. All you’ll need is a screwdriver.

The compact components and flexible tubing make Hydro Series H55 easy to install even if you’re cramped for space. It allows you to improve your CPU’s cooling efficiency even in most compact cases — as long as your case has a 120mm fan mount near the CPU, H55 will probably fit.

Completely self-contained

Hydro Series H55 comes pre-filled, and never needs refilling or priming.

Tool-free mounting bracket kit

The modular design makes installation simpler, and it’s compatible with Intel and AMD processors.

Low-noise, low-speed 120mm fan

The low speed and wide diameter reduces noise levels over the smaller, faster fans used on stock CPU coolers. The three-pin connector is compatible with fan controllers.

Low permeability rubber tooling

Minimal coolant evaporation helps ensure long life, and the resilient rubber offers both high flexibility and excellent leak protection.

Low-profile pump

The pump unit provides high-speed circulation without taking a lot of space. This makes installation easier, and helps improve your case’s airflow.

Latest generation micro-fin copper cold plate with pre-applied thermal compound

Copper has excellent thermal transfer characteristics, and the fin design is optimized for efficient heat exchange.

Low-profile black aluminum heat exchanger

The low-profile design reduces the airflow requirement, which helps make H55 quieter. The small size also allows for easier installation and improved compatibility, and the black finish looks great.

Highly recommended budget cooler. See notes on radiator!
Use CaseI run over two dozen IP cameras in my home setup and was maxing out my 7700K (even overclocked) in my Blue Iris NVR PC. It was time for an upgrade, so I settled on a i7-8086K. The CPU doesn't come with a cooling solution, and since this particular PC lives in a closet, I figured I'd go for something quiet. The case is on the smaller side (while still accepting a full-ATX board), and has accomodations for both 120x120mm and 240x120mm radiators. Aside from wanting something quiet, I needed something inexpensive, easy to install in a smaller case, with a little thermal overhead for pushing the TDP out to 180W+ (if necessary).Packaging/SetupThe item arrived in an Amazon outer box, with the inner box being a Corsair retail package. Inside, the waterblock and radiator are adequately protected. Since the setup is a maintenance-free, non-user servicable closed loop, everything is already connected. If you were wanting to use the watercooling grommets through your PC's case, this is not the setup for you. If you want nice, quick-connect fittings, and large ID tubing, you probably just need to roll your own setup. As it is, the combined pump and waterblock unit is attractive and small. The tubing is TINY. The radiator looks adequate, but small. The fans, in a push-pull setup on either side of the radiator look like they're overkill for the rest of the system. The fittings for the tubing swivel, which makes it easier to place the radiator wherever it will work best, and the waterblock in whatever orientation causes the least binding. The only real work to be done, for LGA 1151 anyway, is to put the motherboard backplate on, attach the proper standoffs, and then put on the mounting block. There is pre-applied TIM on the waterblock. It's easy enough to remove if you think you have something better. I took it off just to measure the flatness of the waterblock (it was 8/10, but I wet sanded it to 9.5/10). The mounting bracket for the LGA 1151 essentially acts as a spring, so there's not much that can go wrong. I can't really say I like the fan mounting method... essentially, you use machine screws and washers to attach the fans directly to the radiator. Presumably, attach the screws (on one side) through the case. As thin as the aluminum on the radiator is, I would really prefer it if the screws were longer and went all the way through the fan-radiator-fan sandwich; I wouldn't worry about inadvertently tearing it up by accident. The radiator CORE is 120x120mm, but the full unit is not square, as the fittings are on one side and the loopback aluminum tubing is on the other side. Depending on the size of your case, that may limit you to two (instead of four) orientation choices.PerformancePowering up the system was uneventful. There are PWM headers for the fans, a header for the pump speed (?), and a SATA power header for the pump. The pump speed header may be a Hall-effect sensor of some sort, but the general idea is the same as when you have a failure on your CPU HSF. The system is very quiet, and kept temperatures in check. Since it wasn't really my build was about, I didn't try to see what the limit was, but I did get a completely stable (100% load for 4 hours) 400Mhz overclock. Temperatures only increased a little over stock.ConclusionI bought this system with a tight space and monetary budget in mind. I feel like I got a good value for what I spent. Since I just recently started using this, I can't really speak to the longevity of the pump over time, but my previous experience with Corsair watercooling all-in-ones has all been positive. Highly recommended.

So I purchased this after getting an i7-4790k (socket LGA1150), because the stock cooler had the processor running at around 95*c in a 2 minute benchmark test! 95* is unacceptable for a processor. It's barely acceptable for a GPU, i don't care what you say AMD! Anyway, I purchased this with SO MUCH TREPIDATION, because i was not looking forward to ripping out my motherboard. That's a major overhaul for anyone. But after checking out the other air coolers, this one was the best price for the most performance.

So during the shipping wait, i did do some research to determine why my processor was running so hot. Seems like the voltage was set way to high by default, so i turned it down from 1.35 to 1.20, and that dropped the heat by about 10 to 15 degrees in another benchmark, so honestly, running my CPU under load at 80 to 85*c was not that bad. I could almost live with that, so i was starting to regret my purchase.

The next thing i did while waiting for it to arrive was watch the youtube video that demo's the installation, hosted by Corsair themselves. Here it is if you wanna see it http://youtu.be/PUxoFiFuS_g . Okay, so i will say, watching the demo is a MUST, because the directions simply suck. To quote a pirate: "They're more like guidelines, really." So do watch the demo.

The installation was very smooth, other than my annoyance at having to remove the motherboard, which meant ripping out my graphics card, as well as the fan in the back to make room for the new one, unplugging all the peripherals, undoing all my beautiful cable management, and of course, removing the stock cpu fan, and cleaning off the thermal compound (i used 70% rubbing alcohol and about 20 q-tips). It took an hour just to get started! But once i was started, the cooler installed easily with no issues.

Before returning the side panels, i plugged it in and checked to make sure i didn't screw anything up. It booted up to windows, and i turned it off, redid my beautiful cable management, and returned the pc to it's home. I will say the Hydro Series cooler looks very cool in the case, just sleek and smooth. Not that it matters, as i don't have a glass side panel or anything (that stuff is for the cool kids).

Now let's talk about temps. I reran several benchmarks, and instead of peaking at 95*c... i peaked at 60*c, but usually stayed around 40 to 50 which was just shocking to me. I idled around 20*c compared to 55*c, or 45*c after lowering the voltage. So all in all, i am very happy i purchased the cooler and took the time to install it. The lower temps will give me some room to work and relieve any worry about overheating. Highly recommend this product.

Oh, and i got the quiet edition, and I did not notice any "water" sounds or loud fan sounds as other reviewers did. Well i could hear the fan, but it was an acceptable decibel.

Originally bought to cool a graphics card, but eventually used for its original purpose of CPU cooling. Works well. Keeps the CPU in mid 20s C when idle and brings temps back down quickly. Under full load (6600K running 4.5Ghz) in the 70s (did peak at 79C) when running Prime95 4 threads. That works for me since that will be the absolute worse case scenario. Fan and pump are NOT PWM. You can only control them through voltage control via software product like SpeedFan. However, using that gives you a lot of control to further limit any remaining noise. My temps of mid 20s is pump running 50% and fan at 33% which makes it silent. The pump itself is VERY quiet on my unit; even at full speed. Overall, impressed with everything but the installation. Holding the back while trying the thread the screes on the top is difficult for one person. Not impossible, just difficult. One screw would not catch. Was concerned about messing up the pre-applied paste; did not change it out and kept the default past included on the pump/block. The unit is designed to work with multiple mountings and CPUs, so things are adjustable. This is another way of saying that everything does not always stay where it should stay when assembling. Again, minor issue, but it was frustrating at first. Once installed, it worked as expected and does it quietly. I'm curious how much the H60 or a larger 240mm unit (H100, 105, 110, and other variants) units would perform on keeping 100% CPU temps down; below my 70s for H55. I doubt I need that for what I do, since most of the time my CPU is in the 30s or 40s when gaming and other load; youtube and what not. F.Y.I. - AIO is "all in one". Air cooling can have similar and even better results if you got a top of the line air cooler. The Zalman ($35) that this replaced, worked well. This works a little better. Not sure the price is worth the slight improvement in cooling. The Zalman was also quiet, but was definitely louder under load once it's fan ramped up. That 100% usage condition normally does not happen during 99.99 percent of my usage.
