When I picked up this recent release, I had no idea it was a Souls-like. We’re at a time now, where there have been so many takes on the core formula, that these games can take inspiration from other Souls-likes, not just FromSoft games. This one reminds me a bit of Immortal Unchained and The Surge, with its sci-fi setting and hybrid melee/ranged combat. It’s in stark contrast to Elden Ring with an almost throwback feel that sticks to those earlier iterations on the formula. As such, it’s still really in my wheelhouse.
You collect items and enemy drops to craft new equipment. Armor has base stat requirements and weapons scale to your core stats. You invest nanites (souls) to level up. Enemies re-spawn when activating a save spot (bonfire). Really fun, safe take on the genre. I liked it a lot.

To expand a little on that, the only issue I had was with the option to respawn bosses so you can fight them again. The issue is that my guy would become invisible, making those fights pretty tough. There was one time when that didn't happen, so I feel like it must be a bug. Transporting back to the base would fix it.
Other than that, it was solid, great gameplay, great framerate, no jank, no bugs. So I have no idea what game other people were playing, or what version. For me, it was a fun time.
