Nice starter camera for YouTube beginners

I use it for my YouTube channel and the video quality is unmatched. I really love how it allows me to film in low light and brings light to the film anyway. I also like the autofocus. It’s very nice for starting out. If you want to see the video quality, my channel is Shantè D.

Wow! Best move going into 2020

Shot film for a couple years prior to jumping into DSLR.... I have been a hardcore DSLR fan since 2008.... Fast forward to Dec 2019....I have been eyeballing mirrorless for sometime but afraid to put down my DSLR....for fear of new things pretty much..lol... Finally pulled the trigger on the M50 at my local best buy, and never looking back! The DSLR setups are officially tucked in a case in the basement, and I am stuck on the M50. -Little tech info review.... The kit lens is perfect for small area vlogging setups,I am running the RODE micro and love the side flip oug screen feature Canon offers when running a hotshoe mic, and vlogging...Other Mirrorless cameras have a flip up screen which usually gets in the way of a hotshoe mic. I do wish the scroll control up near the main shutter button scrolled in the direction you scrolled... my setup is inverse for some reason... just an annoying thing I catch myself every time I use the camera not remembering... maybe I am just crazy... but annoying as can be... Back to a positive topic of this camera....This camera is easily the lightest device in my daily pack... I know that sounds crazy... kit lens and all this thing is sooooo light! Hope you get this camera and begin to document your life like no one else can!

The only knock I could give it would be the low light performance. Higher ISOs can get a bit noisy. This said, the overall image clarity and quality all other times for the money are fantastic. For the money it’s definitely “bang for your buck”. I’ll put some sample images of photos taken with said camera!

Even more impressive than that, I’ve been experimenting with advanced features in manual mode and it is a breeze to learn on. The lack of DP auto focus in 4K is a bummer but my 1080p/23.9fps looks AMAZING (See Drew’s Tone Talk on Youtube for more video samples.) Couple with a Viltrox speed booster and some EF lenses, this camera is a beast for the price.

The best for the Price

Now I can take really great photos and change lenses If I need to. I bought a gorilla pod and rode mic. Now I have a great setup if I ever wanted to do Youtube. All-in-all the camera for the price. A lot Cheaper than SONY A6500 and A7. Importantly it is Canon first 4k Camera. Just get a wider lens/adapter if you are worried about the 4k cropping.

- A:Answer Yes, absolutely! I use this camera primarily for video (I’m a YouTuber), and it is fantastic. I shoot fhd @ 24fps. One caution: if you plan to shoot in 4K, prepare to manual focus. 4K from this camera is good, but you loose that wonderful Canon dual autofocus, as it reverts back to a contrast-based autofocus, which I find to be somewhat unreliable (slow and wanders). In all other resolutions, AF is spot-on.

- A:Answer While it does have a built in flash, it is not automatic. You simly pull it up when you want to use it. I prefer this over automatic. More control that way.

- A:Answer I have used it for night time shots but I have found that I get better results using a tripod (which is true for almost any camera) but even handheld it works very well. The M50 has several special modes, filters & settings specifically for night shooting. I'd recommend testing a few of those features to see which ones work better for what you want to do. If you have a tripod set the camera to its lowest f-stop number in my case I believe it is f-2.5 (which opens the aperture to its widest setting, this setting varies depending on the lens you are using) and switching to manual focus mode & a long shutter release for sharp images of the sky at night. However, there is a scene mode specifically for taking handheld shots at night which works really well too. Also keep in mind when using aperture priority a lower f-stop number shortens your field of focus but allows in more light while the largest f-stop number gives you the widest field of focus but allows in less light. Getting familiar with these settings will help you to get the best results for what you are trying to shoot be it a sharp portrait or a wide landscape, or in this case a night sky with lots of stars visible.

- A:Answer No. The camera itself has the ability to use all EF-M lenses. You would need an adapter for any EF-S or EF lenses for the Canon M50!

Q: QuestionI am getting this camera for Christmas when the sales include bundles. I am very excited about graduating from a small point and shoot Canon. Which lenses are compatible with the M50? I am by no means a photographer so advice welcomed.

- A:Answer I got mine bundled with a 15 - 45mm lens which is great for a start. If you want to keep it very small, the Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 STM Lens is an excellent addition. The large aperture improves the camera's low light performance. Unlike the 15 - 45mm it does not have vibration reduction so be sure to watch your shutter speeds. There are lots of online reviews from photographers far more capable than me that can offer you more advice. Of course the Canon website can also clarify which lenses fit without an adapter. The designation is EF-M for their mirrorless camera lenses. If you add the adapter, it opens up a huge number of options from the entire Canon lens family.
