But this time around, I came up with an idea to make it last longer-
So as shown in the photo, I let my brushes soak for as long as they need to. It could take overnight or several days depending on type of paint (acrylic, latex, oil, chalk, mineral…) and how much much dried up paint is on them. I’ll check in them daily and once they start to soften up, I’ll sort of press the brushes down into the solution to absorb more. Once it’s soft (you’ll notice most of the paint settles at the bottom of the glass jar) I’ll use a wire brush, metal toothed paint comb, dawn dish soap & hot water to remove any excess paint.
I’ll then take a pipette to the jar the brush was soaking in; being careful not to disturb the paint that’s accumulated at the bottom and I’ll suck up all the good solution on top; putting into another small glass jar; screw the lid on top and dispose of the original jar. (All small jars are recycled from roasted peppers, artichoke hearts & garlic, etc. Larger jars are recycled pickle jars). This makes it last a LOT longer. Wish I noticed that paint accumulation at the bottom sooner. But hopefully my experience helps someone else!!

>.. BUT, fresh paint on cloth, dried paint but not previously machine washed and dried, dissolved completely the paint and by putting a cotton ball behind the paint, and using a cotton-tipped applicator with this solvent got the paint between the cotton, and the applicator leaving the cloth paint free! OUTSTANDING!
>.. In addition, I have removed all the paint from some rocks that I had painted and was unhappy with. Draped a paper towel over the dried paint on the rock, poured a very small amount of the product over the rock, and allowed it to work over several hours. Then used a plastic scraper to clean off the paint, right down to the rock's surface, allowing me to reuse that rock.
>.. Much as I hate to admit this, i do not always clean my brushes thoroughly. I make amends to those brushes by putting a small amount of this cleaner into a small plastic jar, and let the brush(es) soak over night, and then remove them for a thorough cleaning in the sink. The paint that had gathered at the point where the bristles are clamped by the metal ferrule now is ready to release the paint that was there. Dip, wait, clean; very easy and very simple.
When I got the brushes they had hardened oil paint residue on the bristles.
A few other ones had a sticky substance. I don't know the history behind the use of the previous owners.
I bought this cleaner and while it did remove what I mentioned above, it also got on my hands, I was wearing gloves and this cleaner ate the paint off of the handles and left them tacky.
No matter how many times I rinsed them, it just made an absolute mess on the handles.
It wore the name of the brushes that are labeled at the factory clear off also.
The product worked but I don't know what they put in it, I would assume some kind of lacquer thinner?
I am disappointed that there is no way of getting this cleaner completely out of brushes safely.
So now have a $170. set of collectable brushes with ruined tacky handles.
