About this ebook

Do you need help with your book marketing?

Take the advice of 700+ book bloggers and book reviewers!

In a survey of 700+ book bloggers and book reviewers, the question was asked:

"If you could give an author one piece of advice about promoting their book, what would it be?"

The answers show authors what is important to book bloggers & reviewers; what they need to promote your books. This raw list is unedited – straight from the "horse's mouth" as the saying goes. The repeated answers drive home how many share the same thoughts; how many want to share the same advice; how many experience the same pain points. The rawness brings forward the honesty in the answers.

This book is not a polished "how to sell a million books" but a list of advice quotes from hundreds of the top reviewers in the industry.

With book bloggers and other online sites being more and more involved in the marketing of books, authors need all the hints they can get.  Let these answers guide you through the world of online promotions.

The simplicity of this guide is its strength and I really enjoyed getting the many different perspectives. ~ Joshua

A list of results from a survey might sound like a sleep-inducer but not in this case! I devoured it! Yes, a lot was repeated, which made me see that book review bloggers want the same basics, and these cannot be repeated enough! ~Kay

Top Advice for Authors Promoting their Book - Barb Drozdowich

    INTRODUCTION

The world of book marketing and book blogging is my world. My name is Barb Drozdowich and I’ve been a book blogger since mid 2010 and am a published author of 27 books. Although I’ve always been a voracious reader, I bring my background in education and technology to my world and help authors and bloggers wade through the technological swamp of book promotions. I look at this world from a technical standpoint, not strictly a marketing standpoint.

It is easier to walk into an unknown situation when equipped with knowledge. The world of book promotions is an unfamiliar one for many authors. Authors are typically very good at creating wonderfully inventive stories – but market? – not so much. The purpose of sharing the information in this short ebook is to empower authors. To share helpful advice.

In late 2012 I carried out an informal survey of book bloggers. The information that I received back from the respondents was invaluable. I was so impressed that I was driven to share it with as many people as possible. In early 2013 I created The Author’s Guide to Working with Book Bloggers. This book has gone on to be a popular guide for authors looking for help understanding the book blogger/book promotion world.

Several years passed and I decided it was time to survey book bloggers once again. In my latest survey I received answers from 502 bloggers. The last question on the survey was If you could give an author one piece of advice of about promoting their book, what would it be? Book bloggers live to promote books. Almost 60% of my respondents have over 2 years of experience promoting books and 27% have 4 years or more.

Because of this volume of experience, I see the answers to my question as pearls of wisdom from experienced people that can help you in the world of book promotions.

The information that you will be reading from book bloggers I have treated as quotes and have not edited for content or grammar. Since I received responses from book bloggers on every continent of the world, many of the responders don’t have english as their first language. I have left the responses as I have received them - in the order that they were received.

    Enjoy the power of repetition!

Some answers are short, some are more involved, but all are heart-felt. I hope that you can learn from these little gems and walk into the world of on-line book promotions with confidence and maybe some fresh ideas!

B e real and create a rapport with the blogger before even thinking of asking them. Also, grammar and spelling matter!

In addition to book cover, blurb, and buy link, give out a little personal information (not too private), so that readers can see you as a real person.

"Don't spam. My pet peeve (and it's nothing to do with blogs at all) is when an author is constantly posting, once or twice a day on a particular Facebook/Goodreads/Twitter page. Those people
