Product Description
The T-3 SWEET CREAM OVERDRIVE In their mini series lineup. All Mini's are not the same ! I have seen some forum comments where some buyers believe that a lot of effects come from the exact same manufacture with just rebranded logos. While this may be true in very limited cases, it is not the norm and all effects are "not" the same either in either build quality, components or tonal responses. TONE CITY has achieved quick acclaim on the market as a company to watch and their line is creating quite a stir. These are very nice sounding units and basically hand built. Check out the reviews, videos and the comments on TONE CITY. Happy to offer some here with fast U.S. Shipping... only a very few for sale! Tone City Sweet Cream Overdrive Pedal (Sweet Honey style) The Sweet Cream Overdrive is based around the gorgeous tones of the Mad Professor Honey Overdrive Pedal. It has three simple controls and offers that simple bite that brings out the sting . These small pedals are built like a brick and have tone for days. If you're after an amp like overdrive you could leave on or stack with another pedal, this is a great choice. This pedal feature three simple controls which includes Volume, Tone, and Gain. The gain control supplies the pedal with more or less overdrive depending on the type of sound you want. All Tone City pedals are True Bypass and require a regular 9v Power Supply for operation as there's no battery slot. A must have for any pedal chain. Features at a glance. Touch Volume Gain

this pedal was not my favorite from jump street but, with some time, patience, and forgiveness i was able to coax some sweet uncreamy tones out of her. the trick, and the thing i didnt notice at first, is that this pedal has, instead of a tone knob a "touch" knob. i wish i knew exactly what it did but i can tell you what it did for me which is smooth out the attack and tame some high mids that were spiking. this pedal can have alot of bite in the attack but thats not my jam. really the "touch" knob changes the whole character of the pedal and, if there's any creaminess in the dirt, its found with the "touch" control.
i do want to mention something else that you may be wondering if you've heard that the mad professor sweet honey or the bjfe honey bee are tweed in a box pedals. i dont know if the designer (i'm assuming Bjorn Juhl and the bj in bjfe) meant it to be an amp in the box. i know a friend of mine corresponded with him and says that Bjorn denied that honey bee was a tweed in the box and said that was come up with by the marketing department. anecdotal i know but if you hear the sweet cream it sounds very little like a tweed other than maybe the high mid dirt. this same friend, and you may want to know this as well, said that the sweet cream doesnt sound much like his honey bee. i'm not sure if it sounds like the Mad Professor Sweet Honey but i suspect its not an exact copy.
one of the best things this pedal did for me was to make me aware of BJFE in the first place. ive seen a couple bearfoot efx pedals on the internet but apparently Bjorn has split with them and maybe Mad Professor too? it seems he's releasing handmade pedals through bjfe and maybe unhandmade through one control. i ordered a bjfe Honey Bee but it hasnt arrived yet. i wanted to check bj's stuff out because, unlike many many pedal companies (including the one i'm really reviewing atm), his designs seem to be originals and not clones or even just reimaginings. i'm told the 3 knob honey bee is a good place to start but since i didnt get it on amazon you'll have to find my blog or be on thegearpage to read my review.
the bottom line for the sweet cream is that, with careful use of the touch control, its got a good light od tone but its not one of my top ods and it will probably split time with the mandragora, the movall dynestaur, and one or two other mini drives on my mini board. but its so inexpensive that its worth a listen and look.
The sound is amazing. Slightly warm, but not muddy and dark on my trebly squiers like so many drive pedals are. I was worried about not having a tone adjustment, but the touch knob is better than a tone knob when the tone is already as good as this pedal's. Touch knob adjusts dynamics, compression, and the feel of the drive. It's really neat how versatile it is. You can get raw grit or compressed, saturated sounds from the same pedal.
The gain goes from almost nothing to a mediumish gain level, nothing insane. It sounds amazing as a basic mild overdrive and even better when stacked with others. There is a bit of headroom in the pedal which makes my guitar sound like I'm hearing it in a wide open space, not confined in a small bedroom.
It cleans up well, responds very well to picking dynamics, and also handles double-stops and triads without getting too harsh and dissonant while also keeping single-notes nice and dirty.
It is very sweet. It is very creamy. It is not a sharp, prickly clipping like the Kaffir Lime (which is not nearly as good), but instead is a softer, milder type of clipping which sounds smoother, yet still badass.
