I decided to try Eve plugs based on other reviews and I have to say that these plugs are outstanding. I have now completely replaced my other brand with Eve so I now have 12 Eve smart plugs and these things are rock solid. After having one or two of the other brand dropping off-line every day, since installing the Eve plugs, I haven't had one instance of a plug offline.
Adding the Eve plugs to my Apple Home app was straightforward. You have the option of using the Eve app, but they can be directly added to Apple Home without the Eve app.
Unlike some similar plugs, these plugs can track and record power usage through the plug and that information is available to you via the Eve app on your phone.
For the record, my thread network has three different types of edge routers (Apple Home Pod mini, Apple TV, and Eero WIFI mesh network).
I would definitely recommend these Eve plugs for your smart home. Note I didn't;t rate tech support because I have never needed it.
Updating this review to 5 stars. Not sure when it happened (perhaps with one of the firmware updates), but the Eve is now regularly reporting stats to Home Assistant. Updates are sent every 5 minutes and cover all of the important stats (amps, voltage, power, and energy). I added the device to Home Assistant using the HomeKit Controller integration, NOT via iOS. Though, my original comments about iOS still apply (no stats, works fine as a switch, etc.)
Still have not converted to Matter. I'm content with leaving it that way until I'm forced one way or the other. Things are working exactly the way I'd like them to so I'm in no rush to change that.
Original Review:
I bought this expecting to import it into Home Assistant (or at minimum, HomeKit) and show the power draw in real time. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
It still does a pretty good job if you use the Eve app. It has power draw and energy draw that are tracked over time. You can then get an estimated long-term cost and energy usage for various time intervals.
It offers no energy or power information in HomeKit.
Speaking only about the Home Assistant implementation, I was able to add it through HomeKit Controller and it immediately showed all the stats I was looking for. Unfortunately, that was the last time it updated automatically.
You can kind of do a hacky interval update by creating an automation that uses the "Identify" function every X minutes. That worked fine, but I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for. Hopefully someone is able to get that information pulled into HA in real time natively.
I'm leaving it at 4* though since it works really well in the Eve app. The HomeKit switch functionality works fine. I have not converted it to a Matter device yet since that is a one-way street, I'm waiting to see what other people's experiences are, and I want to figure out a better way to organize my Matter and HomeKit codes. But I can confirm that Matter is available for this device through a firmware update as of the time of writing this.
If you're looking for a switch to monitor power and don't mind using the Eve app, this is a great buy (if not a little expensive). If you're looking for something more, I would probably pass on this. Maybe in the future there will be some advances in how this provides info.

But no need. The plugs paired first try, and quickly, and they immediately showed up in the Home app. They are super responsive - no perceptible lag between toggling the state and seeing/hearing it go. The nicest things, perhaps, are that they don’t require registration to make an account, the Eve app is only really needed for pairing, Home app sync is instantaneous, and another user of your Home can control these without needing to install the Eve app. Oh, power usage reporting is a nice touch. Now I can retire my Kill-A-Watt.
Are they a bit more than other smart plugs? Yes. Are they worth it? Totally. If you are looking for a smart plug that integrates into Apple’s ecosystem seamlessly, buy them.

Also works as a router and is great for extending Thread network.
Stores programming data in device.

I only gave it a four star rating because I didn't research the price carefully enough. Apple Canada has it considerably cheaper!
