About this item
- 100-FEET (30.48m) [ RED/BLACK 12 GAUGE SPEAKER WIRE ] - The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire. Thicker wire presents less resistance to current flow.
- COPPER CLAD ALUMINUM (CCA) - CCA wiring provides a good conductor for transmitting audio. This is the most economical option when choosing car speaker wire.
- RUGGED PVC JACKET - Allows free, wide and seamless adjustment of the required physical properties of this wire such as flexibility, elasticity, and impact resistance.
- EASY POLARITY IDENTIFICATION - This two color jacket allows for easy polarity identification. Making a polarity mistake could be damaging to your audio equipment.
- OFT TOUCH JACKET - The jacket on our cable is designed with the installer in mind. The flexibility of this jacket allows for easy routing and has a low memory.

My install really couldn't have been any easier. I took each spool, and used it in its entirety for each channel. I terminated them with some tool-less Sewell banana plugs. The InstallGear wire has an extremely soft insulator, which is good and bad. It was good from the standpoint of stripping the insulator for attaching the interconnects. It was bad in that the wire doesn't really hold a shape when you're coiling it. I first unspooled the wire, and then tried to wrap it into a coil. Really, the ideal installation would be permanent - either around the room, or in-wall.
The reason why this cable is so cheap, is because it's CCA. Solid, oxygen-free copper is significantly more expensive. In addition to the cost differences, there are electrical property differences, too. Now, from standpoint of audio quality, there really aren't differences. I'm an engineer, and I can make that statement with a detailed knowledge of the physical properties of both kinds of cable. That said, CCA is worse for other reasons. First, the current carrying capacity of CCA is lower than copper - if you aren't pulling large power through the cable, you won't notice a difference. For reference, it's about the equivalent of 16ga copper wire. Second, CCA will not handle outdoor or high-humidity environments well, as it is prone to corrosion. Third, the perceived value of CCA versus copper comes from a same-to-same comparison of conductor diameter... but since you have to go up one or two levels of wire gauge for equivalence, CCAs advantage worsens.
Does any of that matter? Well, if you're running small speakers indoors, I'd say that you will probably never know the difference. If you're running large, unpowered speakers, you shouldn't be looking at this wire, anyway. However, if you just need some basic speaker cable, this will do the job (in most situations). Conditionally recommended
