Capturing the Upright Bass Tone

Looking for your new tonal obsession? The Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flatwound Bass Strings are designed to reproduce the legendary tone of their Spirocore upright bass strings for electric bass. These flatwound strings are made with a nickel ribbon winding around a silk-wrapped steel core. This results in a string that has the mellow tone of a flatwound string with a slightly brighter attack and added midrange grunt. Many bassists here at Sweetwater use Thomastik-Infeld strings to provide extra oomph to cut through the mix when they need to. The Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flatwound Bass Strings pump out legendary flatwound tone with extra brightness and attack that's perfectly suited for jazz.

  • Nickel ribbon winding provides maximum tonal depth
  • Pliable steel core wire increases sustain

Best bass strings ever

These strings sound and play like no others and last a long time.I don't mind spending money on these strings

Expensive, but worth it

Just bought a Squier Paranormal Rascal Bass HH. This bass seemed like it would be a perfect fit for these strings. Strings fit well, and their much easier to play than the typical "Stiff" flatwounds. Nice warm tone, with good clarity. These strings will be on this bass for a long time!

Excellent Strings

I've rarely used flatwound strings in the past (I have a LaBella nylon flat set on my Lakland 44-51, but that's it), so I can't really compare these Thomastik strings to other brands. What I *can* say is that they sound and feel great on the Guild Starfire II that I just bought myself as a birthday present. I've read nothing but good things about these, so my thinking was to start at the top. People say it's fine to leave flats on much longer than rounds, so the price stings less with that in mind. No regrets!

The last brand of string I’ll ever buy

I can't say enough about these strings. I played rounds for 30 years…well…no longer. I've found the flat wound I've been searching for. Amazing tone, playability, and feel. Plenty of articulation, harmonic overtones, and slinky feel (for flats). They last for years.

I won't be buying another type or brand of strings until something better comes along…of which, I'm quite skeptical will ever happen.

Always awesome

Several years ago, after trying many major brands of flat wound bass strings, I decided to bite the bullet and buy some Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. After a few minutes of playing them, I was blown away by their sound quality - - not dead-sounding like a lot of flat wounds - - and their super-smooth playability. They sound and feel much better than anything else. I've been using them for years and I'm a customer of these for life.

Although some people might be put off by the Jazz Flat's price, you shouldn't let that deter you: these strings last for years. If you consider how long they last as well as their superior playability and sound, they are actually a lot less expensive than other flats that you'll replace several times while the Jazz Flats are still going strong.

I bought these to install on a new short-scale bass and they took the bass and made a gigantic improvement in the sound of this bass. Try some Jazz Flats on your bass and prepare to be blown away
