Checkmate duet series #3

This is Reckless: Drew & Courtney, #1

Rate this book
Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants.
Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night.

He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me—his little sister’s best friend. I’m the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I’m smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn’t see that girl. It’d be easier to forget him if he wasn’t my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn't his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I’ve crushed on him since the day we met, but he’s made it perfectly clear where we stand—just friends.

I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I’m left dreaming of what if. He has girl issues, and I’ve got a crush I can’t deny. We’re friends, but I want more. One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.

A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won’t be a pawn in his game, but I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for.

Checkmate, Prince Charming.

This is book 1 in the Drew & Courtney duet and must be read first. Suggested for mature readers only.

4.25 "I Ship Drewtney" stars!!

First things first... how has no one killed Mia?

No seriously. I can't understand how Drew is still with this chick. How??? And why hasn't everyone else conspired to execute her azz and dispose of the body? They need to get on that stat!!

Courtney's been in love with Drew for years. Too bad he's got her firmly in the friend zone. They're best friends and that's all there is to it. Until there's more. All it took was one night. A night of hot and intense passion. Suddenly Drew is finally able to let his past go and see what, or who, is right in front of him. But what happens when his past won't let him go?

This particular book ends on a huge cliffy. If you're anything like me, you'll be eager to get your hands on the next book. You better believe I'll be one-clicking when that book releases. I have to know what the heck happens next!

Again, I loved the banter, the injections of humor, the chemistry between the main characters, the way the authors worked me up with the drama and angst, and I can't wait to see what they pull out of their collective minds for the next one ;)

Not to jinx it or anything, this book may have got me out of my slump. I have read one single book since the beginning of June, excluding this one, and then I read this one in less than 24 hours. Must be a good sign!

Anyway, I've been excited for this book for some time now, since it is Drew and Courtney's story. I didn't overly enjoy the first two books, which told the story of Travis, Drew's best friend, and Viola, Drew's sister and Courtney's best friend. Their story is definitely ten times better than Travis and Viola's! I was very invested in Drew and Courtney as a couple and as separate characters. Drew is super dreamy! Unlike Travis and Viola, those two are memorable and lovable. Their story is basically a friends-to-lovers one, with Courtney having been in love with Drew for years. Honestly, they're super adorable!

Now... that damn cliffhanger. I was warned the book would end in a killer cliffhanger but I didn't expect this! I screamed for a good ten minutes and directly started the next book, because I just could not wait! Also... please... Mia needs to die. I want to punch her and choke her to death. I'm stressed to see how Drew and Courtney will move forward after that cliffhanger! But I'm also super excited to see their happy ending.

Such a sweet, funny and refreshing story!I haven't read before a book from this author but when I read the synopsis for this one I knew this book was for me!

description

Courtney has a crush on Drew. She's in love with him and she wants him to realize that he deserves a lot better than Mia,his girlfriend. She tries to make him seen her as a woman and not only as a friend. So you can imagine what is happening when these two starts seeing each other differently!I loved both the characters!

Courtney is lovely, strong, smart and funny, I could easily connect with her!Drew is host, smart, kind and adorable! He isn't like other heroes I usually fall in love with, but still he is still fantastic the way he is!I loved their chemistry, they are simply perfect for each other!

I'm looking forward for the next book!!!

don't mind me, just changing my rating

"I didn't know it was possible to fall in love with my best friend."

I've been really looking forward to reading this book because I really enjoyed book 1 and 2 following Travis and Viola's story. I'm so glad we got to see way more of Drew and Courtney in these books because I loved them in book 1 and 2. Personally, I like Courtney more than Viola but I like Drew and Travis the same amount. My friend asked me if this was the best book so far and I'll probably say yes it is purely because we got to see Viola and Travis in the future with their kids and getting married as well as seeing Drew and Courtney falling for each other. I think the romance itself was on the same level as book 1 and 2 but I definitely did still enjoy it.

The last 50 or so pages had me extremely stressed. I had this awful feeling in my gut that they were going to pull a similar ending as in book 1 and I was 10/10 not looking forward to it. However, they once again made a cliffhanger that's just as fucked up as the others. I did predict that this would happen but like WHY.

These book are quick, trashy and easy to read. They're a great time filler and I really enjoy them. The writing style is addicting and the characters are pretty dang good. I'd definitely recommend them!

Now, let's talk about that cliffhanger:

"To be continued"

FUCK YOU. I HATE CLIFFHANGERS DAMMIT. Now I gotta wait another couple of months for the next one. Dammit. Damn this book. Damn cliffhangers. This is a god damn trashy romance novel so WHY ARE YOU LEAVING ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT LIKE THIS?! WHY! I mean I high key predicted that ending but still I NEED ANSWERS

Also, where do I sign the petition to fucking kill Mia. That bitch has got to go. #DieMiaDie

It's finally time for Courtney and Drew to fight for their Happily Ever After!
We remember both from the first two books. You don't have to read those books before reading this, BUT I would definitely suggest you do - we see A LOT of both of them in there!

Ever since Travis & Viola have moved in together, Drew and Courtney now share their old apartment. And it's been going pretty good. They're very good friends. Friends who hang out to watch horror flicks and go out for drinks et cetera. But while Drew is always on-again / off-again with that idiot bi*ch Mia, poor Courtney has been in lust/love with Drew since the first time she saw him three years ago.

But what happens when one drunken wedding celebration ends up with both of them waking up naked in Drew's bed?? Can they go back to being besties? Can there be a real relationship? Will Courtney only be a rebound? And what will Mia say/do about it???

What will happen to Courtney & Drew?
Will there be a HEA? Or a huge Cliffy???
READ IT TO FIND OUT!!!! ☺

Finally back in Sacramento with our four darlings!
We have lots of Travis and Mrs. Travis in here too!☺♥

Drew and Mia. Ugh that Mia bi*ch! We hated her in the first two books and we still hate her now! And poor Drew doesn't see it. He loves her and wants a HEA for them. But Mia is such a ...grrrr. Courtney sees it of course, but Drew won't listen. Until he does one day.... Until he finally sees what's been in front of him all this time. Gorgeous southern beauty Courtney.

But of course this wouldn't be a two-book-series if everything was all insta-happy-endish for those two. (P.S. THAT ENDING!!! JEEEZ!!!)

We have LOTS of stuff to overcome. Lots of stuff in the form of Mia.
But we enjoy every funny, erotic, adorable and frustrating moment of that journey!!!!!

#CHECKMATE: This is Reckless was another amazing book in this series! Funny, adorable, verrry sexy, frustrating, sad, moving! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Drew - this one is MINE!!!☺

were there some things I didn't like? Hm yeah. Sometimes the writing is not really my thing. But that's my problem. I can't really explain it. And I kind of hated how Courtney always ran away when she saw Mia with Drew. Instead of confronting and fighting for her guy!

Two best friends and roommates falling in love. Ummm yes, please!!! Kennedy Fox are back at it again and this time, the focus is on Drew and Courtney. Now that Travis and Viola are living the happily ever after, it’s time for Drew Fisher to finally wake up and see what has been in front of him. That’s right our feisty and sexy Texan, Courtney is finally going to let Drew know how she feels about him.

#ThisIsReckless

If you read the previous books then you guys are all aware that Drew Fisher is involved in a very unhealthy relationship with Mia Montgomery. Let’s face it, their relationship was an epic disaster especially how Mia toys and strings Drew along with her manipulation. So what happens when Drew finally sees Mia for her who she really is?

Courtney isn’t shy to let know Drew that she hates Mia. As one of his best friend, she only wants the best for him and of course she also has a major crush on Drew. Courtney has been patiently waiting on the sidelines for Drew to finally see her as more than a friend and roommate. So when Drew finally kisses Courtney, what happens when these two friends realize that there is no turning back now? As Drew and Courtney begins this new uncharted transitions of friends to lovers, what happens when Mia Montgomery reenters in the picture and wants Drew back?

Checkmate:This Is Reckless is a fast paced sexy romance that is filled with a little drama and angst thrown into the mix. If you are a fan of a feisty and strong-willed heroine who has a penchant for handcuffs since her boyfriend is a Deputy then this book is definitely for you. So are you ready for a fun romance that was quirky and entertaining then make sure you meet Drew and Courtney as they discover when it comes to love, it’s okay to be a little reckless.

Anyone have a craving for warm, blueberry muffins right about now?

Drew and Courtney have such a fun dynamic between them, it's contagious, you can't help but smile and laugh at them. What I think is really cool though is that even though you get all the same feels of being in Viola and Travis's world, these duets are distinctly different and I appreciate that. Drew and Courtney are roommates, a textbook friends to lovers scenario and sweeter than blueberry muffins. They just work, it's that simple and it's a joy to read about their relationship.

“One last dance.” He flashes me one of his infamous looks that always helps him get his way. He leans forward and stretches his hand out to me. How could I ever say no to him?
“It’s like two in the morning, Drew. Plus, there’s no music,” I try to make excuses, but he ignores me and grabs my hand anyway.
“Don’t make me stuff a muffin in your mouth.”

The beginning was freaking awesome. Not only do we have the classic Drewtney thing going on, but Courtney is sassy. There's Mia drama (surprise surprise) and Drew is about as clueless as to what's going on as I am when we're talking about carpentry. Though with that being said, I really enjoyed the light and easy feel of this book. There's banter, but it's not heavy and riddled with hate like it was with Viola and Travjs. Drewtney are fun, upbeat and so sweet that they'll give you a tooth ache.

"If she wants a war, I’m ready to fight. I’m not passive. I’m not Viola. I don’t play games. Maybe Mia Fucking Montgomery has finally met her match."

I feel like Drew is the type of guy that every girl needs to date at some point in their lifetime. He's sweet and tender, considerate, funny, easy going and has a huge heart. Oh, and he's a cop. Did I forget to mention that? To keep up with a sassy southern belle, he was so perfect.

“God, Court…where have you been all of my life?”
She pulls back and looks up at me. I run my fingers through her wet hair and rest my palm against her cheek. Moving in closer, she speaks against my lips before I can kiss her. “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Courtney was a lot of fun as a heroine. I liked how we got some of Viola's humour in her, but they were still different enough of characters to not blend together. She was sweet and sassy but knew when to unleash too. She was the perfect solution to bring Drew back into the land of the happy.

Okay, this is me being super picky and anal, so I'm sorry but I can't not mention anything. My day job is on a farm. I work with animals. When I come home, I see more animals, because I own some too. So it's safe to say that I'm pretty up to date on the kinds of things that happen on a farm. I know there's always the joke or saying about 'rolling around in the hay', but that makes me cringe. Hay is prickly, it hurts, it's abrasive, and quite honestly, it can give you a rash if it's rubbing against bare skin. I just can't buy the sex in a hayloft idea. At least bring a blanket! Because wow, my skins hurts just thinking about it.

So this secret author duo is a fun little kick that's popping up more and more often these days, but I had a revelation this morning. I have a guess as to who one of the authors in Kennedy Fox is! And this has never happened. I've never thought much about it or tried to figure out who is in what duo, but it just hit me this morning while I was at work. In my mind it makes perfect sense but I feel like the second I say it to someone it'll sound silly. XD

“You owe me big time,” she reminds me with a small laugh. Minutes later, I hear her breathing become more stable, and I know she’s fallen back asleep.
“You’ve already got my heart,” I whisper.

I want to talk about the ending so badly but can't figure out a way to do so without spoiling it. Which sucks. I can't even mention what I want to say because if someone had read the first two books, all it would take is for me to whisper one tiny detail and they would figure out part of the cliffhanger. So basically all I can say is that it's equal parts fun, like I want to smack my forehead and be like "Oh, you got me good!" And kind of annoying at the same time. Hard to describe without, you know, telling you what I'm talking about. So ARGH! Someone hurry up and read this so I can talk about it with you!!!

“I don’t ever want to lose you, Drew. Your job is so...dangerous and…”
“Come here.” Drew runs his fingers through my hair, and I lean into his gentle touch. “Every day I put on that uniform and leave, the first thing I think about is staying safe so I can come home to you.

I'm a big fan of this author duo and it seems that they've really hit their stride. In the last duet, I noticed when the authors would switch writing and the other would take over, but in Checkmate:This is Reckless, it felt seamless to me. It flows so smoothly, I never noticed the difference or the author changing, it all blended together so well, I'm quite impressed.

“Thank you.”
His words take me off guard. “For what?”
His lips tilt up in a genuine smile. “For waiting for me.”

Okay, now that all of that is out of the way, I need Drew and Courtney book 2. Preferably sooner rather than later. Can someone work on that for me? And Logan!!! He and Kayla need to be next! I will devour those books.

THREE.5 BE RECKLESS STARS.

"I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for."

description

This book was fun with a capital 'F'. I don't always need to be swept up or blown away by an authors writing ability to fully enjoy my time with a book. Sometimes, I just need something to kick back and relax with and that's what Kennedy Fox did with their latest release. 'This is reckless' was an enjoyable romance loaded with sweet, sexy and a little bit of angst.

What's is all about?
This is the third book of the 'Check mate' series and book one of the second duet that this author duo have written. This story combines the themes of 'friends to lovers', 'unrequited love' and 'best friends older brother' in one sexy sweet package. Grab this book on your kindle to read on about Drew fisher, a tatted police officer and his southern belle room mate, Courtney Bishop. Be prepared for crazy ex's, romance and plenty of heat in the bedroom (and out).

description

What did I love?
I was nuts about this books heroine. She was sassy, without being overboard. Sweet, without being a pushover and most of all she gave as good as she got and went after exactly what she wanted. I also love the mashup of themes that this book offered up. I'm a sucker for a little bit of unrequited love and I equally adore a friends to lovers theme, so as you can imagine I was definitely happy to read about this couple falling in love.

Why not five?
There were sadly parts of the story where the book had slightly cringe worthy, cliched romance novel moments. This made me a little disappointed as there were definitely winning moments of this novel where I felt really connected to the authors direction. I also had a little trouble falling for the hero, I struggled to believe in his love and I thought some of his feelings were developed way too quickly. I would have liked to have seen a little more resistance and more convincing of the development of his true feelings. (More show and less tell). However, with all that being said, this book was so close to a four star and it is most certainly my favourite book of the Kennedy Fox duo thus far.

description

Final thoughts ...
I am dying to get my hands on part two of this duet, as much as I had my minor niggles with this book it ended fabulously and I can't wait to see how the Fox twosome wrap up this love story. It would also be remiss of me not to mention that I'm already hoping that some of the secondary characters that popped up in the storyline get their own books ... (hint, hint the Bishop Brothers). For those readers who like all of the above mentioned go ahead and load your kindle up on release day. Enjoy ... kisses.

4.5 Handcuffs and blueberry muffins stars

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

This stories was one of the most anticipated of the month for me, because after reading about these two characters in the previous instalments, I had no doubts they’d be perfect together.

Courtney is a bubbly girl from Texas who’s been crushing on her roommate since before they started living together. While Drew is a police officer who, somehow, got stuck with Mia “Fucking” Montgomery, a.k.a. the Bitch Who Needs To Die.

I’ll admit, the first half of the book didn’t exactly make me squeal with joy. Mia was still too present, but I also gotta say I highly appreciated how Drew only started to “see”, really “see”, Courtney after he broke up with Mia. So there was no cheating involved and also it showed how loyal a man he is.

description

Also, another thing I loved was seeing how unwavering Drew was in his resolution of not taking Mia back. Too many times we see characters who, in order not to hurt someone’s feelings end up hurting their loved ones’. I was scared this would be the case, instead Drew didn’t disappoint and, once he got with Courtney, he gave her his undivided attention.

The second half of the book was simply… perfect. These two are hot as hell together, and a whole lot of romantic too. If at first I scrunched my nose at their first time happening the way it did and then Drew’s reaction, I loved seeing how naturally they slipped into a relationship. It made me happy to watch Drew be relaxed in a relationship and understand how sick his previous one with Mia had been.

description

We have tons of happy times once they get together, and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, but instead there wasn’t anything too angsty. I also reeeally liked some plot twist happening around the ending that showed another facet of Drew, a faced that endeared him to me even more.

Of course, when the real ending came, I wanted to strangle both authors and demand to know what happens next (they’re cruel like that. JK. Love you, K & F <3).

Would I recommend it? Absolutely yes. I liked it even more than the first two installments, especially since Drew is not an asshole like Travis, and also because of the amazing work the authors did in portraying Courtney in such a way that showed both her insecurities and her strength.

description

On a side note, there were some funny moments involving Traviola, too, but since they’re on their honeymoon, the story was definitely centered on the couple at hand. Before starting reading it, I’d hoped to see more of Traviola, but I’ve got to say that I’m happy about their moderate presence because I happened to fall in love with the current characters even more deeply than with the previous ones.

"I've been waiting for you."

Three words:
MIA FUCKING MONTGOMERY.

Oh my god guys. I'm so pissed right now. I'm so tired of that bitch LMAO. ANYWAYS, I'm so glad that we get to read about Courtney and Drew! I mean I loved loved LOVED Viola and Travis but Courtney and Drew just have a slice of my heart. Courtney is literally my inner persona. And Drew is just OHMAHFREAKINGAWD. We don't get to see this side of him in This is War and This is Love!!! Like damn he's Mr.Dreamy. Handcuff me to a bed and have your wicked way with me please? Their story was absolutely cute and had me giggling like a little girl non-stop!!! And oh lord their chemistry had my face burning and fingers clutching to my book for dear life. Not a book you should be reading in public LOL

So their story starts out with Courtney of course loving Drew from afar (like she's been doing the past few years she's known him). Drew and Mia's relationship is unsurprisingly rocky and of course Mia (the bitch that she is) gives Drew an ultimatum: either kick Courtney out or she'll break up with him. And of course when Drew loves someone he loves them with all he has. So when he has to choose between two of his biggest loves, his girlfriend and his best friend, he's sort of stuck in a pickle. So who will he choose?? Better crack the book open and find out the rest for yourself because from this point on my lips are sealed. ;)

But seriously the ending was UGHHHHH-inducing. I'm in such a bad mood LOL. Kennedy Fox you guys destroy me with these damn cliffhangers!!! Like I thought This is War was bad but no this one was so much worse. I seriously wanna hit somebody, preferably a certain someone lol Oh man, I can't even IMAGINE how the next book is gonna start. There better be some ass-whooping involved LOL Luckily, for me, This is Effortless comes out April 25th, the day after my birthday, so WHOOT WHOOT CAN'T WAIT TO SPEND THE DAY AFTER MY BIRTHDAY PISSED OFF :D lol

"Thank you."

Courtney Bishop is a gorgeous Southern belle that grew up on a ranch in Texas. She's confident, loud mouthed, loves beer & football, is an obsessive baker, & has no filter. She lives in Sacramento, California with her best friend Viola's older brother Drew Fisher. Courtney has had a huge crush on Drew since the moment she met him. He's a sexy, tattooed police officer with a heart of gold.

She lets it be known she wants him, but Drew see's her as nothing but a friend. To him she's one of the guys. He's given his heart to a girl that doesn't deserve him, & Courtney is tortured daily by her beautiful shirtless roommate she is desperate for, but can't have. She's tried dating other guys to get over her crush but nothing works. Drew has become one of her best friends & they share an unspoken connection.

Suddenly things start to shift between Courtney & Drew. He's having hot sex dreams starring Courtney that he can't explain & Courtney still can't control how badly she wants Drew. Things get very complicated after a drunken hookup between the roommates. Just as Courtney is finally starting to come to terms with the fact Drew will never look at her as more than a friend, they have too much to drink & wake up in bed together. They attempt to pretend nothing happened, but soon have to deal with their feelings for one another. It was the most amazing sex either had ever experienced & soon they are addicted to one another. Drew's crazy ex won't leave them alone & Courtney has to decide if she's willing to give up on Drew or fight for him.

-She's awakening something inside me I hadn't realized was missing. Screw the what ifs and overthinking my feelings for her. I want her.

-"You're one of those dirty cops, aren't you?" I taunt. I feel his lips smile against me and shiver. "You say that like it's a bad thing."

-Courtney is my best friend, my roommate, my partner in crime, and now she's mine. I don't know how this happened or how we got here, but I don't want this to end.

-Heart pounding, chest rising and falling, body aching. She's all-consuming.

-"I'm completely addicted to you."

Where can you find me:

God I hate Mia.

Courtney has been in luv with her best friend brother Drew since she first saw him years ago. They have become really close over that time and are even best friend and roomates. The only thing is he has a girlfriend Mia. Who is a complete bitch. She is the worst person EVER and isn't the girl Drew deserves. So things aren't that easy for her at times. Courtney can't stand her and Mia is threatened by the relationship Drew had with Courtney. But Drew wouldn't let Mia interfere. Courtney has learned to hide her feelings from Drew. But when there get rocky AGAIN with Mia things start getting a lil different between her and Drew. Feelings start getting hard to hide when they start getting closer at Viola and Travis wedding. She sees her best friend find happiness and she wants that more than anything. So when Drew gets close to her and things happen she finds it hard to hide her feelings for him.

Drew has been in a relationship with Mia for years. Three relationship is all over the place. Mia is a horrible person to everyone but Drew doesn't see this until. They split up for the ten millionth time. Mia wants everything her way and Drew has had enough of dealing with her. He can't deal with having ultimatum thrown at him over Courtney. She is one of his best friends and they alway have each other's backs. When he starts seeing Courtney a lil different he tries to hard his feeling for her.

I luv Courtney and Drew together.I really liked them in Viola and Travis's book. They are so meant to be together there sexual tension is crazy between them. But Mia has alway been a problem and carries on being one to. Once Drew gets his head out of his arse and let's Courtney in they are red hot together. But Courtney has been hurt and cheated on with her last boyfriend so she hasn't let anyone in until Drew. If Drew hurt her she wouldn't be able to get over it.

I really enjoyed this book and have been looking forward to reading it since I read Viola and Travis's Duet. I would highly recommend it the story is really good. Drew is a hot sexy cop and Courtney is sassy and so funny. She say it how she sees it and I really like that about her. I m dying to read the next book after the way it this book ended. Cliffys are a killer.

Ahhhhhhh I don't know about you, guys, but I totally devoured this one!! I had already a weak spot for Drew and Courtney on the previous books and reading their story solified my love for them. I loved their friendship, their chemistry was like palpable in every common scene and I wanted to smack their heads together and scream at them, especially Drew. Like WAKE UP, DEPUTY!!!! I have to admit that there were a few minor spots that didn't impress me, but I had a big smile on my face in this book and some laugh out loud moments so I truly loved their story more than I did with Traviola! Reading the next one right away, because that evil cliffhanger left me reeling!!

3.5 Blueberry Muffin Stars ⭐
Spicy Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Given that I didn’t particularly love the previous duology, I did think myself slightly crazy starting with this book. I went in extremely cautious and overly sceptical. But I find that almost funny how side characters in previous books intrigued me so much by their story, even though I didn't enjoy the other books as much... I really wanted to see Drew and Courtney's story unfold.

Unfortunately, this cannot be read as a standalone because the plot elements of this book continue from This is Love and you need the foundation and backstory from the previous books to understand this one fully.

But I think that might be why I enjoyed this so much because I had spent two books getting to know these two characters and finally being able to see their love story was sweet and romantic and cute and just the warm fuzzies that I needed.

Courtney is a bowl of southern sunshine and she loves with all her heart. She has been hurt in the past by a previous relationship and as much as she jokes about her lustful attraction to Drew, underneath there is a deep-seated love for the man that she has developed overtime. This attraction has buried itself even deeper in the last two years since they became roommates and best friends. It can just be sensed how perfect these two are for each other as you know you have found "your person" when you consider your downtime and relaxation time being home with that person. AND THAT IS WHAT DREW AND COURTNEY ARE TO EACH OTHER...

Drew was an idiot. A DUMB BLIND IDIOT because that is the only was to explain how the man could live with and be friends with someone like Courtney AND NOT BE IN LOVE WITH HER...I don’t know what it is about Mia (his Ex and the main conflict in this story), but she must have a magical vagina or something to explain why he was so hung up on her. Completely ignoring her gaslighting, manipulation and blatant cheating...he just accepted that and allowed her to keep him whipped. I am extremely glad that he finally realised what a bitch she was and decided to look at Courtney a little differently.

The one thing that did frustrate me a little bit was Courtney’s love for Drew was built over many books so it didn’t feel rushed in the slightest. BUT the attraction and love Drew felt was too instant. It was almost at the snap of a finger that he acknowledged his feelings for her and he was already spewing "I Love You". His attraction felt that it was missing that foundation of how he unpacked his thoughts to get to the point of love, it was very cavemanlike of "now I like her and that must mean I love her."

There was a little bit of a mix between miscommunication and communication so I could tolerate the misunderstanding. I did like the way they dealt with some situations because they would communicate their feelings and issues when they finally realised to stop being children and have a flipping conversation instead of running away from their situation like a coward

I don’t think that I’ll be picking up the next book in the duology though. I don’t really wanna go into the unnecessary drama again with Mia. In my head the two of them got a very nice little happily ever after he met her family, her family loves him, she loves him, everybody loves each other, and they are all living happily ever after with little Drews and Courtney's running around in the backyard.

Overall this was a sweet little fluffy read that gave me the enjoyment that I needed.

The trope summary is
▶ Best Friends to lovers
▶ Grumpy X Sunshine
▶ Roommates to lovers
▶ Other Best friends brother
▶ Hand Necklaces

Woot!!! Finally Drew's balls are back and his brains were now intact!!! Damn! There's nothing more happier than to see this man realize the biggest real deal in the history of his love life. After reading the previous books in this series,This is War and This is Love I wanted to smack the hell out of him so he could see clearly what he's been missing out. And now, to read something you've been looking forward be realized is worthy to be celebrated. Hoot! Really, this calls for a celebration and you know what's even more worthy of a grand celebration? This book of friends to lovers that had me wanting for MORE! This book that caused me a sleepless night and a meal haven't eaten. This book that had me wanting cuffs, policeman, muffins, and scorching sex stat and this book that made me change sides. I was previously team Traviola but now after reading This Is Reckless, I am proud to say I am team Drewtney.

I hate to say this but I wont spoil you anything instead maybe you'll just read plenty of ramblings here and there over my love for this book. I cannot help it. I am in love how it was written and in as much as I admit how cliche other parts is, I enjoyed every moment I had with it. My journey with them is so much more than just the fun but all the excitement because let's face it, first few pages and you'll hardly put it down. I just keep on turning the pages, enjoyed with every scenes clearly evident on my face. Cliche parts? Nah! More like, cliche what? Because I was so hooked I do not mind if it even exist. I was so lost into the bubble caused by Drew and Courtney.

Gah! The feelings is just OFF THE CHARTS and the banter was so damn worthy to read. Who would have thought I will love this couple more than I love the first?Drew Fisher, you man is a fantasy I wanted to become a reality. He's overloaded with sweetness and hotness combined beautifully I was swooning all over. Oh God, I'll volunteer to be cuffed with him forever! There's no question why Courtney have been crushing this man for years. And Courtney, eeep!!! This woman is every man's dream I tell you. She's not just your ordinary woman. She's everything, O how I love her and her sassy and funny mouth. Them together is just perfect! Their chemistry is beyond amazing! I love, love everything with them. Mostly because I love the fact that there was no unnecessary twists and turns, instead I was given growth with both the characters, portrayed and delivered excellently. It was something just so refreshing and the fact the I was so entertained is an added bonus. I was laughing like I'm on crack. Melted like jelly because the sweetness is just worth melting for. Holy Jesus!!! even their sex scenes were just scorching I needed a cold shower. Gah! Drewtney they're just EVERYTHING.

Seriously this book is so good you do not need to ask if I'll recommend because I really will. It maybe cliche and at some point predictable, but hey, it was an enjoyable and fun read. All the feels is in this book. It's just so refreshing and heart warming. And that cliffy, oh let the next book be out soonest and if you wanted someone to torture Mia Fucking Montgomery, I can. I'll happily do it. Damn! I thought this woman was dead already? Well I thought wrong, it needs to be rectified though and I'll gladly help. Lol!!

To Kennedy Fox, hands down to your duo!! As always, you aim to deliver!

Team Drewtney for the WIN! Kennedy Fox has done it again! Checkmate: This is Reckless is the perfect blend of friends to lovers romance, humor, emotion, and of course, page melting sexy times! This is the first book in Drew and Courtney's duet, so consider that your warning if you're not a fan of cliffhangers! We were introduced to these two in Travis & Viola's books, Checkmate: This is War and This is Love, but this duet can be read as a stand alone.

I loved watching Drew and Courtney blur the lines of their friendship. Courtney's feelings towards Drew are no secret and she definitely wins the most patient while pining for your best friend award. I will admit that there were times I was frustrated by Drew, but it was all worth it to see Drew finally open his eyes to his toxic relationship with Mia and see who was really there all along. Yes, there's some angst and drama, but there's also hilarious witty banter and smokin' hot chemistry.

All our favorite (and not so favorite) characters are back and a few new ones are introduced too. I definitely enjoyed getting to revisit with Travis and Viola and I'm really intrigued by Logan's story. I wouldn't mind one bit if he got his own story or if there was a spin off series featuring Courtney's brothers. Just saying ;) I cannot wait for book 2, Checkmate: This is Effortless, because that ending was a gut punch! I'm still reeling a bit from those last few paragraphs (seriously, oh hell no!!!), but I trust Kennedy Fox and so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride! ;)

My gosh, I don't really know where to start! I initially started reading this series on a whim and the next thing I knew I had read the first two books in a matter of days! After binging the first two books (This is War & This is Love) and enduring one of the biggest WTF moments ever, I immediately had to dive into Drew and Courtney's books next. And let me tell you, this WTF cliffhanger takes the cake and eats it too! Holy jeezus!

That aside, Drew and Courtney's journey from friends to lovers was so sweet and fun. Roommates and best friends for the past couple years, their relationship begins completely platonic. Courtney has been crushing on Drew since they first met but he's been blinded by his on-again, off-again girlfriend of 3 years. Drew may be attracted to Court but he's never let himself go further than that. And Courtney is perfectly fine being Drew's friend and only his friend - as long as he's happy. But as Drew finally starts to wisen up to his girlfriend Mia's manipulative ways and sees what's been right in front of him all along, is when the fun truly begins!

The Kennedy Fox duo knocks it out of the park once again! Drew is sexy with his police uniform and handcuff getup. Courtney is sweet and sassy and downright adorable. They have such a blast together and I loved seeing their relationship evolve. And I can't leave out the cameo appearances from the previous stars, Travis and Viola. The interactions when all four are together is something magical. Everything just feels so right, it clicks. I love this group to pieces!

Now back to that ending....my jaw is still on the floor! I'm actually really terrified of what's to come. I have no clue what's about to happen but I have every intention of finding out. Right now. Oh yeah, if you love romance and swooning and laughter, THESE books are for you!

Warning: Expect a lot of fangirling, rambling on excessively, and an abundance of explanation points in this review. Read at your own risk.

Another fantastic book from Kennedy Fox!! This writing duo just gets me. They know exactly what to write and how to write it to make me drool, jump around, and unable to put down the book. Each book of theirs that I read leaves me loving KF more and more. I'd have to say this one is probably my favorite thus far... but I have no doubt that I'll continue to say that as the books roll in. I'm just completely obsessed with these books!!!

"My heart is pounding against my chest, and I wonder if she's thinking the same thing I am."

Drew and Courtney are roommates and best friends. They met through Drew's sister, Viola, and have been living together happily for two years as strictly roommates and best friends. However, Courtney has had a crush on Drew for years. His sexy demeanor is undeniable, even when crossing that line could affect their friendship. Drew secretly has an attraction to Courtney as well, though he fights it with his entire being. His girlfriend, Mia (who we all hate, by the way), has a tight leash on him and tries to keep him from straying. But Drew can't deny the dreams he has about Courtney and the attraction he has for her, which is much more than just a friendship. As these two begin to blur the line between friendship and more, we're taken on a bumpy ride! Hold on tight and enjoy the emotional roller-coaster!!

I am now officially Team Drewtney!!!! ♥ ♥ Drew is my new book boyfriend. Totally. I don't usually fall for the whole cop/uniform/handcuffs vibe, but MAAAAANNNNNN, Drew takes it to a whole new level!! I'm obsessed with him. (And totally not ashamed because, trust me, you will be too!) And Courtney is just adorable! I would definitely want to be friends with her. What a fun group of characters!

Checkmate: This is Reckless I suppose is technically the third book in this Checkmate Series. We do meet Drew and Courtney in Checkmate: This is War and Checkmate: This is Love, however it's not necessary to read those prior to reading this book. Regardless, you should read those too because KENNEDY FOX IS LIFE!!! I really wish I knew who this writing duo is. Mostly because if one of them is an author that I haven't read yet, I'd now want to go and read ALL THE BOOKS!! I do have suspicions now and then of who could be involved in this masterpiece duo, but until they're ready to be revealed, I'll just going on loving them like this. ♥

Bottom line: READ THESE BOOKS!! (Please and thank you.)

**4.5 DREWTNEY STARS!!!

Thank you to Kennedy Fox for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!!!!

Just when you think Kennedy Fox locked it down with Travis King, they come at again with smoking hot cop, Drew Fisher. Whoops! Sorry, King…

I was not kidding when I’d mentioned that Kennedy Fox’s books were the most fun I ever had while reading. These books come with a whole lotta feels and a whole lotta HOT!! There’s banter, there’s blueberry muffins, there’s handcuffs (YES PLEASE!), and there’s just so much story, this book was nearly impossible to put down!!

“Those are the same eyes that have looked at me over the years, and the message has always been the same. I want you. Only this time, I recognize that look and welcome it because I’m looking at her the same way."

I’d fallen in love with Travis in ‘Checkmate; This is War’, but my goodness.. I think Drew takes the cake! He’s every girl’s dream (especially Courtney’s) and I could not get enough of him! Drew was previously introduced to us in the first duet as Viola’s overprotective, cop brother and I could not wait to get to reading his own story! There was so much that needed to be explained and I could not be happier with the story that Kennedy Fox ultimately ended up writing for him and Courtney. This story was perfection in the making!

The friends to lovers trope is one of my favs and this one knocked it out of the park! It has everything you’re looking for. But if I had to give you one reason to read this book NOW, which you should do regardless, is for the woman that is Courtney! GAHHH! I wish she was my BFF! She’s hilarious, intelligent, witty, and who doesn’t love a girl from Texas? Courtney never failed to say something that would bring a smile to my face or have me clutching at my sides from laughing so hard. The things that come out of her mouth just added to this vibrant character that she was! And the wiener beau? C’MON!!!!! I want to be just like Courtney when I grow up. (Drew included haha)

“I’m looking at you like I’ve always looked at you,” I reply with a smirk. “You’ve just never noticed it before."

This relationship between Drew and Courtney was hot, but it was also so damn sweet. Courtney has had the biggest crush on Drew from the very beginning all the while Drew was always oblivious, even after the both of them becoming roommates. It was tough seeing Drew with Mia, but Courtney was determined! ('ATTA GIRL!) And once Drew finally opens up his eyes to see what was in front of him, maaaaan, we were in for a ride. *brings out the handcuffs*
Courtney and Drew are without a doubt perfect for each other and I loved being able to also see that tender, sweet side of their relationship. They are best friends after all. My heart was just beating wildly out of my chest with the sweet, and naughty, things they would say to one another! Total swoons, this book.

But also, can we discuss that ending?! HOLYYYYYYYYY MOTHER OF PASTRIES.
Kennedy Fox are the queens of cliffhangers and have I mentioned that I need the next book, like, yesterday?!?!?! You keep us on our toes and we just continue to devour the stories you give us!

If you’re looking for something incredibly fun, hot and hilarious, and aren’t afraid of a couple dozens of blueberry muffins, Checkmate: This is Reckless is the book for you!

4 'DEPUTY' STARS!

HOLY SHIT, THAT ENDING! 😵
____________________
This is Reckless by Kennedy Fox was a sweet and sexy friends-to-lovers romance that left me sighing.

Let me say I began my KF journey backwards lol. I've read the first two books in the Bisbop Brothers series and said to myself well let me read Courtney's journey since she began it all. So, here I am onto book 2, flipping my shit with that ending. Let's just say Mia Montgomery is a psycho and Drew dodged a bullet.

They're best friends and roommates... What more could you ask for? Cue the longing and crushing and the feels #sigh.

Enough said I enjoyed this fast paced love story mixed with that bit of angst and sexy moments. I'm definitely intrigued by the rest of the gang's stories so I'm just going finish the whole Checkmate series (finally) lol.

Ohhhhhh my god. Talk about an ending that will leave you with your mouth hanging open, your blood pressure shooting up through the roof and wanting to pull your hair out!

Kennedy Fox has burned the house down yet again! I'm so far gone. This author duo has already zoomed up to my top favorite authors list when they brought us Traviola's story. But now with Drewtney? I. Am. Done. Can they just write and make books forever? Seriously, it was a hook, line and sinker. I'm addicted. I can absolutely read these tales over and over and I still won't get enough of them.

Drew Fisher—Viola's cop brother who has always loved and pined for the same she-devil woman for years—has always intrigued me ever since I read This is War. I cannot, for the life of me, comprehend how blind as a motherfreaking bat he was when it came to his annoying and conniving bitch of a long time girlfriend, Mia. I mean, talk about the mother of all bad decisions! I hated how he always just forgave and took Mia back, and never saw what was actually right in front of him. But when he got over that and smacked himself awake from that awful nightmare, Drew will just make you melt all over. Yes, just like Courtney, he definitely will be one of your scorching hot alpha cop fantasies who handcuffs you to the bed and dominates the hell out of you.

“Courtney is my best friend, my roommate, my partner in crime, and now she’s mine. I don’t know how this happened or how we got here, but I don’t want this to end.” -Drew Fisher

Courtney Bishop—Viola's best friend—is this sweet southern belle with a big brain, cheerful persona and is absolutely loyal to a fault. Strong, confident and comfortable in her own skin, Courtney's just a woman who knows and goes for what she wants, yet she knows where her boundaries lie too. And she was perfect in handling her friendship and relationship with Drew all throughout. Her restraint was worth a standing ovation. Because crushing and lusting over your best friend for years—who also happens to be your roommate—and living under the same roof can break someone's control (and maybe psyche too) easily. Especially with the intensity of Court's attraction and feelings for Drew is. I just love her passion and kind heart just as much as she loves baking (and consuming) her sweet and delicious blueberry muffins, that's for sure!

And no, I will not ignore or just skim over this. It needs to be said (again!)—Mia Montgomery can fuck off and die. Seriously, the way she was always jealous of Courtney is on a severely psychotic level. I swear! I feel like we should already be staging a campaign called "Mia Montgomery must die" or something. Or we can all just sign off on a petition for the woman to be locked up in a highly secured asylum so there's no getting out for her anymore. She can rot in there, for all I care, so she can leave everybody alone and in peace. I have no idea how this woman's brain is wired, but she and everything she does just infuriate the hell out of me. I've never wanted to punch a character's throat and hoo ha as much as I want to with Mia!

Anyway... *deep breaths* This book is yet another masterpiece from Kennedy Fox and a definite must read. It's a little less angsty than what we got from Travis and Viola's story, but the humor was as impeccable and tummy ache-inducing as ever. And the lines were so perfectly relatable that you could easily find yourself in Courtney's shoes on any of the scenes. Now I'm just going stir crazy waiting to find out what happens next in This is Effortless!

So. Okay. Um. Wow.....
Please excuse me while I drag together all my thoughts and hopefully make sense.. I am speechless, like, I read the last line of this book and my mouth DROPPED OPEN. Now as this is a DUET there is a cliffhanger. And holy crap what a cliffhanger it is… Like WHAT THE….
But that's not the only thing that made my mouth drop open and make me unable to form words, no. This book as a whole knocked me off my feet!
It has EVERYTHING I want and need from a friends to lovers romance.. What's everything I hear you ask? Well, let me break it down for you.
Loveable characters…. CHECK.
Gripping tension…. CHECK.
Sexual chemistry…. CHECK.
Breathtaking angst…. CHECK.
A hot, steamy connection….CHECK.
And there is so much more but if I break those things down I'll spoil it. Seriously I AM BUZZING. Checkmate: This is Reckless was just FANTASTIC!

Once I began Reckless I didn't stop for 5 hours!!! Reckless took over my day, consuming every part of me. From the prologue Kennedy Fox had my attention and they managed to hold it ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Kennedy Fox burst into my life last year and have solidly implanted themselves on my favourite author list, this dynamic duo can do no wrong. Never, ever stop writing. Hear me, NEVER STOP.

I honestly went into Reckless wondering how Kennedy Fox would play out Drew and Courtney. While Reckless can stand alone, I think it is best to have read Checkmate: This is War & Checkmate: This is love. One, because I love those books and two, to purely gain a FULL understanding of everything that's happening. But you don't have to!! Let me stress that, its just MY PERSONAL OPINION. From reading those two books previously I had idea of how these characters might be, how the story might go, but Fox took all my expectations and blasted them through the stratosphere. I had so many predictions, so many ideas and had dreamt up so many scenarios that could have happened in this book but none of them even came close.

I LOVED Courtney. I found it so easy to connect to Courtney, to understand her feelings and to get her wit. She's hilarious and so freaking sassy.
Drew. DUDE! DREW! My gosh. I want to say that Fox topped Travis and I personally think they did but these two are SO different. For me, Drew is the best. I honestly think I've been ruined by the man. He's a sublime mix of sweet, swoony alpha & dominating sex God. I have no doubt that this man will take over your heart and mind and just infiltrate your soul. He did mine. I adored him. My hot cop fantasy is ALIVE & KICKING!!!!!!
Together #TeamDrewtney are sensational. They mix together with such precision and perfection. The connection they share is undeniable and so damn strong it burns. Drew and Courtney are ridiculously hot, sexy, sweet and passionate. An amazing couple to lead an amazing book.

This raw, racy, ravishing read will leave you in a state of bookworm bliss even with the killer cliffhanger that stings in the best way possible. Checkmate: This is Reckless ticked all my boxes, covered all my bases and overtook every inch of me. I can only rate up to five stars but I'd happily give it ten!

5 This Is Reckless Stars

Ok I am not going to lie, I enjoyed book 1 and 2… BUTTTTT
I LOVE BOOK 3!!!

What a great book... First… MIA needs to jump off a cliff... A reallllly tall building... Jump out of a plane no harness...

Ok is that mean?? NO! No it’s NOT! Haha.

Sooo Drew has the off and on girlfriend Mia.. (the devil incarnate.)
And he now has a roommate is sisters best friend Courtney, and well he never saw Court as anything other than his little sisters best friend. Until he doesn’t any longer…. Ohhh yeah

Court has a bit of a crush on Drew but knew nothing would come of it because of well besties brother and all that.

But then it happens!! And sooooooo much goes down... No I am NOT going to tell you haha, you’re going to have to read to find out what exactly let’s just say you’re going to swoon and be happy and mad and at the end, you’re going to be like WHAT THE EVER LOVING… F-Word!

I love Court and Drew! I can’t wait to see what is going to go down in the next book I am not a cliffy kind of girl but I have to say this one is a great way to keep me interested because I NEEEEEEED to know what’s going to happen next.

I loved Lia’s narration in this book I swear her male voices… Is it wrong to have a crush on them? What!! It can happen. :p No judgment. :)

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

If you have been following this series from the beginning than you would know that topping the first two books would be a difficult feat. Travis King stole the panties right off of us and Viola Fisher became our endearing, feisty and nerdy best friend. Their story became an addiction and one we couldn't get enough of. Like everyone else, I was sad to see their story end. When KF announced a new spin off series featuring Drew and Courtney, I was literally salivating at the mouth with excitement. Courtney is Viola's best friend who has been lusting after Drew (Viola's brother) since the moment her eye's landed on him. We were constantly rooting for them in the last two books. Every girl deserves to have her cop fantasies come true
