Checkmate duet series #2

This is Love: Travis & Viola, #2

Rate this book
Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true. And I want her.

If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence. Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.

I’ll prove I’m done playing games. But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.

Checkmate, Princess.

This is book 2 in the Travis & Viola duet and must be read in order. Suggested for mature readers only.

This is Love picks up where Kennedy Fox left us in This is War, with Travis in the hospital and everyone else waiting for an explanation from him. I felt like this book had a different feel to it than Book 1 since Travis and Viola have reached a truce by the time this book started. I was honestly okay with that though since their characters didn't change and these authors were able to keep Travis and Viola's personalities the same.

Gone was the anger that surrounded their relationship in the previous book. Now we got to see Travis actually changing his manwhore ways and opening up to Viola, and I really liked his characters in this book. I wasn't too sure he could be redeemed since he was such an ass before, but he somehow was and I loved seeing that.

Overall, I really liked this book and I think it was a great conclusion to these characters. I loved that the sexual chemistry between them continued to be strong throughout both book, and that their characters were so great together as both enemies and lovers. This duet is a recommend from me and I can't wait to get started on Drew's books.

Enemies to lovers. Check! Best friend’s little sister trope. Check! A fun and sexy romance that was a whirlwind of angst and drama. Double Check!

I think Kennedy Fox is well aware that I needed to get my greedy hands on the This is Love: Checkmate Duet since I was dying to know what will happen with Travis and Viola. And let me just say, Kennedy Fox did not disappoint as they treated their fans to a whirlwind romance that had me totally smitten.

#CheckmateThisIsLove

This Is Love picks off where it last let off and the question to as to why Mia is in the car of Travis is answered. It seems Travis and Viola must overcome a few hurdles along the way as trust seems to be the biggest factor of their relationship. As Viola gives her heart to Travis, can she fully trust him when she discovers the truth as to what really happened with Mia. Also what happens when Viola’s brother discovers that his sister and best friend have been hiding their romance behind his back?

This Is Love is a deliciously saucy romance that was fun. While this book had the predictable aspect, I enjoyed watching Travis and Viola as they navigated their feelings for one another. So if you are looking for a love story where two friends discover that real love is about patience and sacrifice then this book is for you.

After that HUGE cliffhanger in “This is War”, I think it’s safe to say that everyone was on pins and needles to find out what was going to happen in “This is Love”. Travis and Viola embarked on a forbidden romance behind her brother’s back that took them to new heights. What started out as an all out war, turned into something that they both knew was in their future.

“I know the risk of the game we’re playing. I know what we have to lose, but there’s so much more to win. Viola Fisher has always been mine, and finally being together is the endgame. “

Picking up right where “This is War” left off, Travis King is now in the hospital after being a terrible car accident with his best friend’s ex girlfriend. Now like many others, the one question that was on my mind after I dropped a couple of f bombs was “How”? How Did Travis manage to get himself involved with that woman? What really happened that night? Luckily we get all the answers to these questions and even though patience is not my virtue, I was happy with outcome.

“ No one else I’ve ever been with has made me feel the way you do. Every. I’ve always reserved that part of myself for you.”

Without going into detail, I will say that I really enjoyed all of the characters. Drew was an excellent brother and best friend, and I LOVED Courtney! These characters were funny, loving and everyone really cared about each other. Viola had a difficult decision to make in the beginning and I really liked how she handled herself when it came to Travis. These two definitely didn’t have it easy but they loved each other and when it comes to everything, that was all that mattered.

If you enjoyed the first book in the series, then you’re going to LOVE this one.

After the brutal cliffhanger that left all of us gasping in This is War, I was dying to get my hands on This is Love. My expectations were sure high, but this book more than exceeded them.

I found it, anyway, quite different from the first instalment and I couldn’t had liked it any better.
If in This is War we see Travis’ more a-hole-ish version, here we see a gentler side of him. Sure, he’s still an alpha smartass who is guaranteed to raise your body temperature to from normal to at-risk-of-combustion in less than a paragraph, but we see also other deeper aspects of him. Even though I enjoyed their mind games in book one, I have to admit I was relieved to see them be more serious about what was going on between them and make a new rule (*waggling eyebrows*) about quitting those mind games once and for all. Doesn’t mean they stopped being fun or having that fake-hate banter that’s the prime essence of the couple. Only that this time around it was clear they were just joking and that they were together for the long haul.

I loved how both Viola and Travis seemed more mature and especially it melted me how sure of their relationship Travis was, reassuring Viola whenever she fell pray of her insecurities.

description

Of course, it couldn’t be all rose petals and rainbows, so I still got my drama fix, but I liked how Fox handled it. Again, Travis’ unwavering commitment and acceptance of their love was a beautiful thing to read and it avoided me plunging into the depth of despair when shit hit the fan.

I was also surprised by a certain plot twist, which I would have easily seen coming from other couples, but that I was so not expecting for #Traviola.

Also, I kinda fell a little for Viola’s brother too. He’s kind, he’s genuine, and he’s totally unaware of the effect he has on the female sex (huge turn-on). I found him endearing and am really hoping to soon read about him and a certain crazy blonde (*wink, wink*)

All in all, this book was a really great, enjoyable read. It was just as hot as the previous one, but much sweeter as it truly tied the MCs together. It had it all. It was fun, it was sexy, it pulled at my heart’s strings in a way the first one hadn’t, and it held a sense of closure for a duet that is definitely one of this year’s must read.

Totally recommended!

THREE CHECKMATE STARS.

"I would wait a lifetime for you, and I mean it."

description

This second book in the checkmate duet series provides the conclusion to the love story between Viola Fisher and Travis King. Kennedy fox, are already set up to be a successful erotic writing duo and if you like your books hot and raunchy then this two part series will most definitely suit your tastes. From drama to romance, and enemies who have found love I was impressed with this debut duet by 'team Fox' and although it didn't win me over 100% completely I could certainly appreciate this 'best friends, little sister' themed romance.

What did I like?
I have really enjoyed my introduction to this writing duo, there is something comfortable about their writing style that as a reader I connected with and although this time around the story didn't completely suit my tastes I liked it enough to enjoy my time with this duet. The hero was suitably alpha and the heroine likeable enough and whilst I liked the main protagonists, funnily enough it was the secondary characters that kept winning my attention, I'm hoping that we see more of them in future releases. The sex scenes were aplenty (dare I say a little too frequent) and volcano temperature hot. And there was some added drama and uncertainty to keep things a little interesting. Overall this was a solid three star novel that didn't whip me into a frenzy but kept me with my kindle from start to finish.

description

Why not five?
Call me crazy and perhaps disagree with me, but this duet ending felt somewhat overdone in the bedroom action. What I needed was a little less erotic narrative and a better balance of time spent focusing on the romance. I would have also liked to have seen a little more conflict at the beginning of the novel. Book one left me wanting to find out more and I was excited to discover what I would find developing in book two and it all felt a little plain sailing. Maybe I'm an angst chaser? Or like my drama amped up? But I couldn't hide the feeling that this book needed something more to keep me glued to the pages. All in all this was a likeable tale but not enough to make me fall five star crazy in love.

description

Final thoughts ...
I'll definitely be hooking up my kindle with future releases by this author duo. Their was plenty of content and talent thrown into this duet that left me wanting more. As for those who are considering the checkmate series, if you are in the market for a cheeky alpha hero and a heroine that has been waiting more than her share of time to be noticed then this should be your next read. As for me I'm glad to have read a likeable duet that has set me up for looking out for future releases by Kennedy Fox. Enjoy ... kisses.

The first half was super boring and if you ask me what exactly happened, I'd only give you very general points because I got so distracted as I was reading.

The second half was better and slightly redeemed the book for me. Travis and Viola grew on me a bit as a couple and as individuals but they're not really memorable.

I'm super excited for Drew and Courtney's story because they're both really interesting characters!

This book left off where the last ended thank god. I needed this book so much after the way the last book ended. Travis and Viola's story is just as crazy in this book as the last. I didn't think there was goin to be as many twists in it. I thought other think mite of happened that didn't my head was all over the place in a good way. I luvd what happened i was in the edge throughout the whole book. I m still in luv with Travis and actually felt sorry for him in this book. He is a like different in this there is no manwhoring he is still cocky and arrogant and luvs himself. But he is a lot sweet and he's the one wearing his heart on his sleeve. This luv he has got Viola is book is so cute. He will do anything for her all he want is his woman by his side. But things don't really go smooth for him.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

Viola is still dealing with trust where Travis in concerned. She does try really hard to push negative thoughts away but things pop up that make it hard. There meant to be together it's all she ever wanted and she has him. Though she is just waiting for the penny to drop and when it does it's not good. I like Viola but not as much in this book. She was a little whiney and a bit of a hypocrite in this book. Things that had happened in the past that she was mad about she did in this which just made me angry with and Drew to be honest. By the end we were friends again I couldn't be angry with her for long haha.

I really enjoyed the book. Like I said I thought the book was goin to be different but I really luvd how everything worked out. There are characters that really get on my nerves and just keep popping up where there not wanted but this is what made this book good and kept me guessing. I 've a feeling the next duet is goin to be the same. I m really looking forward to that. One thing that I enjoyed in this was the hotness wow it was sexy. I think Travis had his clothes off more than off and I m not complaining at all. He's hot sexy as tattoos and a dirty mouth you just can't give out about him. It's just what made these books so good well and the story. I would highly recommend this diet I really enjoy it. I couldn't get enough of it I thought everything about it was great. Looking forward to reading more of the authors work.

4.0 "NO MORE GAMES" STARS!!!

The King finally returned!!!Swoon!!! Talk about ovary explosion guarantee because this book is just it and then more.

To be real honest, this duet is my first Kennedy Fox read, so yes Travis King popped my Kennedy Fox V-card. And boy, I wasn't disappointed. This book is more than what I expected. From the cliffy in the first book that had me so excited to get my hands to the next installment, I was hooked. Kennedy Fox' writing just owned me. I can count all the ways why but I tell you it's more than one, hell even more than five just like how Travis can give Viola more than 5 orgasms because this book is just that good. I was addicted to it.
Travis is my drug, and when I’m getting my fix, it’s hard to concentrate on anything at all, but I know I have to.

I can't blame Viola because I was even so high with Travis King. He may be a manwhore but there's depth to him that I was rooting for. This man is just swoon worthy and being relentless on pursuing Viola I was a goner. I feel like I was Viola reason enough to say that the characters are so relatable. With this conclusion, I appreciated the growth of both the characters, and it's one of the reason why the book is worth rooting for. It was articulately and vividly written that everything was portrayed well you get to really follow the flow of the story and where it will lead you.

The truth is, with this book, I cannot count the times I'm laughing so hard. I may have been furious one moment and then felt a tear to slide from my eyes, but I have been grinning from ear to ear because I was swooning and loving the story. Because really, it may be light hearted with a little bit of drama and a little forbidden vibe but as a reader I cannot deny the fact how sweet and beautiful this story is. My anticipation kept building with every turn of the pages because I was so looking forward to the next scene. Added up with a thick sexual tension and scorching sex scene and this book really got me. I cannot put it down. I love it. It's a refreshing story and it warmed my heart. I really enjoyed it a lot.
Being with Viola is so intense that it’s easy to forget about everything. It’s just me and her and it’s all that matters. She’s all that’s ever mattered. And at this moment, I fucking need her as much as I need air.

2 Points Stars to Gryffindor ⭐️
Spicy Level 🌶️🌶️.5/5

I have some thoughts...
1. The characters basically had a brain transplant between Book 1 and this - because that is the only way to explain why they felt so different.
2. This was on a steady incline of being REALLY REALLY good...and then it took a nosedive into calamity and never made it out...

This book starts almost immediately after book 1's cliffhanger ending. Girl (Viola) is traumatised that Manwhore (Travis) (who is now completely reformed because Girl has some magical vagina and he only wants her and only her now) was in a near-death car accident. She pushes aside feelings of unrest at explaining why the reformed manwhore was with her brother's Ex in the accident and why the Ex was naked. Forced to play Nursemaid, the two lie to Girl's brother about their new relationship status and things get complicated.

Now from here on, we will have spoilers so read if you wish...But don't say I didn't warn you...

Trope Summary:
▶ Roommates to Lovers
▶ Childhood Friends to Lovers
▶ Brother's Best Friend
▶ Reformed Badboy/Manwhore
▶ So many Harry Potter References

Overall this passed the time, didn't really feel like the same characters with the same tension and angst in the first book and didn't do it for me... I really want to try Drew and Courtney's book though so maybe I'll check them out in the future...maybe.

4.5 Travis King Was Always Meant To Be Mine Stars
(ARC provided by authors)

 photo 36EF7CF1-74B0-49DE-823C-C053F5882A70_zpsh7p4jgcd.jpg

Travis King & Viola Fisher had a complicated relationship in the last book. They grew up best friends & have loved each other since they were children, but a misunderstanding tore them apart. They had serious sexual tension & enjoyed flinging insults while Viola spent her spring break living with Travis & her brother Drew. Passion ignited and they shared some seriously hot hate sex that eventually turned into more. Then Travis was put in a questionable position & Viola was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt & not jump to conclusions. If they are going to be together, Viola has to learn to trust Travis & believe he's no longer the manwhore he once was.

 photo 9174BBDB-5CE0-444F-986D-0659F40F02D1_zpsdpvsoo0b.jpg

Travis is done playing games. Viola is the girl of his dreams, & he wants a future with her. He'll do whatever it takes to make sure he doesn't ever lose her again. He's all in & ready to prove himself to the woman he loves. He doesn't want anyone else & makes his feelings clear to Viola.

 photo 11211BFB-7BAF-4898-B776-4494D39F058F_zpsijo0cink.jpg

-Travis is my drug, and when I'm getting my fix, it's hard to concentrate on anything at all.

-Viola Fisher has always been mine, and finally being together is the endgame.

-When she looks into my eyes I know there's no other woman in the world that can make me feel this way.

-"Viola owns my heart, and I'm pretty sure she always has."

I loved this series so much! This couple started out loathing the sight of each other to totally being obsessed with one another. Since Viola is Travis's best friends little sister, she's always been off limits. They struggle with going public about being a couple, & Travis is seriously swoony in this book. The playboy willingly surrenders his heart & ego and falls deeply in love. I can't wait for Drew & Courtney's book next!

Also can we talk about drew and Courtney like what the hell drew is so blind that Courtney is in love with him it kind of annoyed me but I still love him. ❤

Travis effing King. Let's just take a moment here and start the slow clap because damn he turned out so swoony and perfect!!! Loved him.

Not a fan of the drama scene/moment, it was pretty weak and there was a massive overreaction but I loved him the entire time. <3

“I know our relationship may seem unconventional to some, but it’s our story, and it’ll always be my favorite one...” -Travis King

I can't take it. I. Can't. If you thought This is War was fantastic, addictive and took you out for one helluva ride? (I DID!) Well guess what—this one is just holy freaking phenomenal! Think all that you experienced in book one, then multiply it to about a hundred. That's how I felt after I finished reading this! Well, aside from the fact that that ending almost gave me a heart attack! But god did I die. My poor ovaries never even made it. My heart was incredibly brimming and overflowing with so much feels for Team Traviola! They were just so amazing together, I can't deal.

Travis King was beyond perfection, more so in this book. He showed a side of himself that just brought me to my knees. Don't get me wrong, he was still his usual cocky, funny self, but lace that with so much more love, tenderness and thoughtful actions—that's the Travis we get here. And ohhhh how the mighty King has fallen. His soft and sweet side killed me. From the very beginning of this book until that very last moment, he will have you begging for him to be real. At least that's how I was anyway. He was just so much more than I expected from what we got from him in This is War. My heart barely survived the domination of this King.

Viola Fisher was as lovable, quirky and awesome as ever. If there really is anybody in this world who could tame, handle and banter with the King, it's this girl. Just her. She's just the ultimate and perfect match for him. She never failed to amuse me and make me laugh my butt off, especially with her addiction to Harry Potter. Viola is a character who is so relatable, you can easily see yourself in her place. And damn do I want to be in her place, all right! I want to be Travis King's princess, pretty please!

These two have embedded themselves in my heart and soul. I will forever love the dynamic they have, the ton of laughter and anger and so much extreme emotion they brought out of me. And the feels—good lord, the damn feels were just going on and on, it was crazy!

Y'all, if you want a story that will make you giggle, squirm, bite your nails, punch someone, or just plain die of pure adorableness, read Traviola's story. (And more, later on. Trust me.) You certainly won't go wrong with these characters. And I'm pretty sure you'll just want more, because that ending—it will leave your jaw stuck on the floor. Because it's not over! I mean, Mia fucking Montgomery. Remember?

Kennedy Fox, I still have no idea who you ladies are, but I swear, y'all are going to get massive tackle hugs from me when (not if—WHEN) I see and meet you. There's no wonder at all why this author duo is taking the book community by storm. Their duets are so insanely good, it will leave you in book heaven for days!

We're back with Viola & Travis.
We basically start where we left them....remember?

Viola just got a call that Travis is in the hospital - he was in an accident - but he wasn't alone in the car! Drew's ex Mia was naked in the backseat!!!

Off to the hospital we go, to get to the bottom of this whole mess.
What was Mia doing in that car with Travis?
We hear a little about that in the first chapter - Travis lets us know a bit about how he ends up with Mia. But of course we don't know everything yet! Mostly because he chooses to not tell us everything!

Once Travis is back home recuperating in bed, Viola is hired by her brother to take care of the patient! Poor Drew btw. still doesn't know about them!

Now the only question is what the hell happened with Mia and can Travis be trusted when he says to trust him. ☺ He seems to want to be with her as a real couple, but can this manwhore really suddenly be in love and in a relationship with only one girl?

And what happens after college? Will Viola have to leave the city to find work somewhere else? And what about Travis and his horrible job situation?

What will happen to Viola & Travis?
Will there be a HEA?
READ IT TO FIND OUT!!!! ☺

═════════════════════════════════

description

description

Finally back with those two crazy kids!

And even though Travis is in bed and hurt pretty badly during the first part of the book, they still can't stop egging each other on! Adorable!

Lots of funny and sexy stuff happens.

But of course there's still that Mia thing and that not telling the whole truth about what happened thing.

And then there's also Drew, who still doesn't know about them, and who will probably kill Travis once he finds out ... bro-code and all that! ☺

Lots and lots of problems to overcome until we can get to our Happily Ever After!

#ThisIsLove was the perfect finale in the Viola & Travis lovestory. Run to your nearest amazon to find out if and how Viola & Travis will finally fight themselves to their HEA ☺

description

were there some things I didn't like? Hm yeah. Sometimes the writing is not really my thing. But that's my problem. I can't really explain it. The other thing.... and I feel like I write this in every 3rd review. This typical mid-book misunderstanding or the lie or the omission - or whatever drama an author comes up with. It happens here too. Just tell the whole truth at the beginning and this whole unnecessary drama could've been prevented. We would still love the book. Find some other, real drama. But not always those typical, unimaginative things! Especially when we know that they'll make up in the end!

BUT - I still really enjoyed their story and I can't wait to see what poor Drew will have to deal with in his own book!!!!

Everything is better in twos! The Checkmate Duet is a deliciously sexy and passion filled romance that will make you laugh and swoon from beginning to end. An absolute thrill to read cover to cover! Nobody does enemies-to-lovers romance quite like the dynamic duo of Kennedy Fox!

THIS IS LOVE is a complete SWOON-WORTHY and SEXY read! This enemies-to-lovers love story takes a sweet and romantic turn in the final installment of Kennedy Fox's Checkmate Duet. THIS IS LOVE had the absolute PERFECT blend of steamy sexual tension and heartwarming romance. I never wanted it to end!

I could just sit and read about Viola and Travis ALL DAY LONG! They are one of the most entertaining literary couple I've come across in a long while. The witty and humorous banter was just second to none. They just get so riled up and it translates in the bedroom so SO well! Believe me, you'll be seeking out a fan or a cold shower quite a few times for sure!

Just when you think the games are over, someone makes a move you aren't expecting and the game gets more intense, more passionate, and more lively than ever before. In the end, Travis, Viola, you, me...EVERYONE is a WINNER!

this is love teaser

Run to your nearest amazon to find out if and how Viola & Travis will finally fight themselves to their HEA ☺

were there some things I didn't like?

2.5 Princess stars

This was slightly better than the first book of this duet but it still fell short for me. I found myself skimming sections just wanting to quickly move the story along.

I enjoyed the secondary characters more than the main characters and I'm contemplating reading the next books in the series just to see how their stories play out.

3 This is Love Stars

I wanted to read this second part so much after the first book. But I am disappointed; it felt like I read the story before many times. Even with the surprises in store.

My favorite character is Travis, he is who I was rooting for he really grew as a character and I loved that. I loved how the story unfolded for him.

Viola and I we just don’t mix no matter how much I wanted to like her. I felt like she was childish and selfish, ugh I hate even saying that. I just have strong feelings about how she did what she did. And all the secrets I just can’t with that.

I know it’s a book but I am invested after book 1. I wanted this one to kill it and so I could shout I love this book but sadly it was more like I rolled my eyes and wanted it to end too much dramalama for me.

I am a Courtney fan, she is cute and bubbly and I want to see her with Viola’s brother together like a lot! I wish we had gotten more of her.

I did love the narration! I mean not only does she bring the characters to life, I love her man voices. :)
I would listen to her again and again and again.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I struggled with this one, I listened to the audio version and I found myself wanting to speed up the narration. Lol. And I don’t know if the cliffhanger is luring enough to continue with the series.

I really enjoyed this Duet! Travis King is definitely a sexy hero and he found his match in Viola! I loved the way their story ended, but there were some scenes where I didn't like them as much. In some there was unnecessary drama and on others I needeneeded more angst. However, I'm team Traviola and I can't wait to read Drew' s & Courtney's story!!
