What happens when a prickly cat lady runs into the new dog owner next door?
Brittny Parker, an American graduate student, is moving to London with her lovable Boston Terrier, Cooper, in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics. Could life get any better? How about adding a super sexy woman next door? The problem is her snooty neighbor is not a dog person. In fact, she despises Cooper from the moment he knocks her over and sends her groceries spilling all over the ground.
Prin Jones is a native-born Londoner whose most successful relationship is with Francesca, her Persian cat. With a bakery to run and an unpleasant ex-girlfriend to dodge, the last thing Prin needs in her life is an obnoxious American and her poorly trained dog. But it becomes almost impossible not to run into Brit at every turn.
When Francesca and Cooper decide to become balcony friends, and Prin’s twin sister takes on the role of enthusiastic matchmaker, Brit and Prin decide to give each other a second chance. All they need is one date to see if there might be something more between them.
It should be easy, right? But somehow everything keeps going hilariously and disastrously wrong.
Can two women from different worlds meet in the middle to become more than neighbors?

Brit is an American attending school in London for a year, then back to the states. So she is very mindful of not wanting to get involved with anyone. Prin owns a bakery with her twin sister and has her own issues with a past relationship.
After getting off to a rough start and a few failed attempts at spending time together, they hesitantly agree to try a first date. Nothing prepares them, or us, for the restaurant Prin chooses for dinner. It was recommended by her sister's friends so how bad can it be? It was hilarious and I could not stop laughing. The banter between them is priceless as they realize that the chicken legs and heads are literally hanging off the dishes and flopping every which way. They can't decide whether to laugh or be sick at the sight.
Throw in Brit's Boston terrier Cooper, and Prin's Persian cat Francesca, who apparently know how to get along better than the humans, and you have a wonderfully funny but deeply moving love story.
This is T.B. Markinson at her best. She makes us laugh, cry and touches our hearts. There is never any disappointment with her books. Totally loved it.
An American woman goes to London for a year for post-graduate school and started out on the wrong foot with her attractive British neighbor. The story was told in first-person by the American woman. There was fun and witty banter between the two women, seeing tourist attractions, and there was even a pet dog and cat that added to the story. I really enjoyed the book, and recommend it to all, but especially if they're looking for a light and charming story.

Don't y'all love when people communicate. I love when my characters just don't talk about being open and honest, but are. And they were. It was an almost drama free story, with just a blip (if I'd call it that). No, actually it was a bit angsty for me, but because I kept thinking "oh, now something bad is going to happen" "okay, so probably now is the drama coming", the second shoe never dropped though and it was so good because of that.
Okay, the blip got my blood all boiling to the point I could only hear my heartbeat. And how couldn't Brit see all the so.dding clues. Jesus! Talk about a dense person.
p.s.: chicken legs are DELICIOUS, tendons are the best part, yummy. I'm eating some today on Sunday lunch.

A wonderful summer read.
