The Best Mistake Kindle Edition
A chance weekend fling becomes an electrifying escape for two strangers—until they meet again under very different circumstances. A one-night-to-forever lesbian romance.
Uptight, icy Ava Harris, rocked by grief and terrible romantic decisions, moves to Melbourne for a new university job. She definitely doesn’t expect to encounter the ghost of a dirty weekend in her first week there.
Kind, charismatic Sofia Juma, who runs a campus tutoring program for migrant students, barely recognises Ava as the charmer she met months ago, given the woman’s frosty brush-offs.
When the universe keeps hurling them together, and that old attraction flares again, Ava keeps giving in to Sofia’s charms. Sex is easy, but intimacy takes courage. While Sofia is brave, a wounded Ava is still running scared. If she ever catches up, will it be too late?
A second chances romance about healing old wounds and learning that independence doesn’t have to mean being alone.

About the author
Thirteen-year-old Emily woke up one morning with a sudden itch to write her first novel. All day, she sat through her classes, feverishly scribbling away (her silence probably a cherished respite for her teachers). By the time the last bell rang, she had penned fifteen handwritten pages of angsty drivel, replete with blood-red sunsets, moody saxophone music playing somewhere far off in the night, and abandoned whiskey bottles rolling across tables. Needless to say, that singular literary accomplishment is buried in a box somewhere, ready for her later amusement.
From Melbourne, Australia, Emily was recently granted her PhD. She works part-time in academia, where she hates marking papers but loves working with her students. She also loves where she lives, but travels as much as possible, and tends to harbour crushes on cities more than on people.

Throughly enjoyed the twist and turns.
I typically avoid books that have emotional underlying stories since I need more happiness in ny life. I let the tears roll and kept reading.
TL:DR: Believable characters, strong story, well done. 4.5 stars

Emily O’Beirne.
Usually the absolute queen of YA Australian sapphic stories, this is a fine contribution to the world of adult sapphic romance.
There are so many genuinely laugh out loud moments and the dialogue between the love interests is wonderful - with special mention to the ensemble cast of excellent characters representing the perfection of multicultural Australia.
The book is a bit of a slow burn to start after a quite dramatic kick off as the characters find their footing - which makes sense as we get to unravel two beautiful and complex women who thankfully have a number of solid cracks at what could be.
Also worth saying that O’Beirne lyrically captures the deep insistence and persistence of attraction between two women - playfully and with the type of chemistry where the world disappears.
Like I said, the story was good. The change and growth was nicely paced. It’s a little sad, a bit funny in places but also frustrating. I’m sure I’ll figure out what was missing at some point. I don’t regret reading it or anything. I’m sure other people will love it.
Also, it really needs another look over by an editor or at least the author to get rid of grammar mistakes and missed words. I think that added to my overall feeling. I expect better from this publisher I guess.
