The Things We Leave Unfinished

Rate this book
Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce—the New York house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late great-grandmother’s estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is always people nearly kissing. He’s just as arrogant in person as in interviews, and she’ll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks he’s the one to finish her grandmother’s final novel… even if the publisher swears he’s the perfect fit.

Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there isn’t much the “golden boy” of modern fiction hasn’t accomplished. But he can’t walk away from what might be the best book of the century—the one his idol, Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn, cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another.

But as they read Scarlett’s words in both the manuscript and her box of letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book—it’s based on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn’t a happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she’s as determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother’s mistakes—even if it means destroying Noah’s career.

picked this up because i saw sooo many people describe this as an emotional masterpiece. but the story did absolutely nothing for me.

and let me tell you what. i read this while on my period and not once did i shed a tear. and thats coming from a me, whose monthly mess of hormones once made me cry over the fact that the mars rover had to sing happy birthday to itself because it was all alone. lol.

so not feeling anything while reading this really says something.

and i cant really pinpoint any specific reasons why i didnt connect with this; which is useless, i know. im sorry. so its most likely a “its me, not you” kind of situation.

i’ll never be the same after reading this book. i’m a mess, so expect this review to be nothing more than that. i need you guys to know how much this book means to me so bare with me here. i have NEVER read a book that was anything like this one. i was in no way prepared for two love stories in one book. both of these romances made me SO emotional…guys the letters😭if a book has letters in it…i WILL read it. the attachment i feel to the characters in this book is like no other. it was so easy for me to put myself in their shoes and feel exactly what they were feeling. the writing was phenomenal. probably one of the best written books i’ve ever read. it took me so long to read this book for a few reasons. a big one being that this book was so good from the start, that i was so scared to get through this book too fast and be done with it. it was like i could already feel the reading slump coming in because i just knew that this book would be THAT good. another reason being because there were two romances…it was a lot to take in emotionally. the last reason was because i was taking notes on every single chapter just because i didn’t want to forget a single detail in this book. i simply do not know what to do with myself. i feel like i just read a book and watched a movie at the same time, as i was reading i could see everything and with how traumatic almost half this book was…it was just a lot. both the romances in this book had me SWOONING guys the way i was smiling so much. it was just so beautiful. this book fucking consumed me…entirely. it is so much more than a romance. i need everyone to read this, i simply cannot imagine the world without this story. the plot twist was something i never saw coming. i was so shocked. this book broke my heart, made me come to terms with it, and then broke my heart all over again. what am i supposed to do with that😭it’s like now that i finished the book, i need to accept everything i just read BUT I CAN’T. rebecca🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺what did you do to me. i don’t want any of what i just said, in my last few sentences, to scare you guys. everything that i’m feeling…it’s the power of a really good and well written book. it’s beautiful, i never knew that i could feel SO much at one time and as overwhelming as that sounds…i never wanna stop feeling like this. i give this book infinity stars. it’s another book that will stay with me forever. another book that i’ll never forget and think about everyday. another book i’ll always recommend. i wanna say it kind of reminded me of the movie “the longest ride” i know that’s a book as well, but i haven’t read it yet. if you enjoyed that movie, you’ll enjoy this book. this book is definitely so much better and the plot, to me, is better as well. i can’t stop thinking about everything i just read…i took a nap after writing half this review and i immediately dreamed about this book and woke up crying…happy tears and sad tears, but honestly, mostly sad tears. idk when i’ll get off this emotional roller coaster that rebecca yarros put me on, but what i do know is that this book is too beautifully written to not be read by everyone who enjoys reading romance. if you read this, i hope you love it as much as i do🥹oh let me add that noah morelli and jameson stanton had my tummy like 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋 love these men so much🤭🫶🏼scarlett wright and georgia stanton i absolutely adored these women and omg constance🥺let me just stop before i start crying again. please someone make this book into a movie🥺it’ll be my favorite.

SPOILER WARNING besties stop now if you haven’t read this book🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

i instantly fell deeply in love with jameson’s and scarlett’s love story guys that’s why i’m hurting so fucking bad. it’s almost like i couldn’t enjoy georgia’s and noah’s romance because i was so heartbroken for scarlett and jameson. key word being ALMOST because i did in fact enjoy noah’s and georgia’s love story omg, but right now i wanna talk about scarlett and jameson. it was the way they fell for each other so hard and so fast. and it took place in the 1940’s guys i am a sucker for those romances…because men back then😮‍💨😮‍💨they just have really great manners🤭knowing that this was a war romance i already knew my heart was going to be ripped into tiny little pieces. when jameson and scarlett first met😭😭i literally loved that scarlett’s sister constance always helped jameson out any chance she had. guys i can’t really talk about jameson’s and scarlett’s love story without fucking crying but i mean if you’re reading this then you read the book and you know how beautiful their love story was and how painfully it ended. i just wanna point out the phonograph and how jameson’s mom gave it to him if he promised to bring it back home alive. then he married scarlett, they had a baby and he was in the process of getting his family to the states so they’d be safe. jameson told scarlett to take the phonograph back home and she refused because scarlett reminded him that he told his mom to bring it back himself, alive. then jameson says “tell her i’m sending it home with my life, because that’s what you and william are. you are my life”😭😭😭😭😭guyssssss that made me sob. and then he left to go to work and the plane he was flying went down. OMG when howard went to tell scarlett that jameson’s plane went down and scarlett asked if he was dead and then he said that he didn’t know….guys i couldn’t breathe. i literally couldn’t breathe because not knowing if your husband is dead is worse than him actually being dead and that’s something scarlett said in the book….like you never get that closure and you always hang on to that little hope that he’ll come back home alive even though deep down you have to know he didn’t survive that crash :( it ripped me apart. constance’s and scarlett’s relationship was everything to me. i adored them so fucking much. THE PLOT TWIST guys i was so shocked. i was coming to terms with the fact that scarlett wasn’t gonna see jameson again but then when scarlett and constance got bombed while having william…i was so sick to my stomach and then i remember that chapter ended with scarlett finding constance dead and then the next chapter we found out constance was alive and that scarlett was injured badly and she ended up dying. i couldn’t accept it. i literally couldn’t at the time because that meant constance literally lost so many people and then had to live a lie and become her sister. and william lost his parents :( it was just too much for me, too much that i never saw coming. ugh i will never get over it. she had to live a lie as her sister and she never told anyone and she had to do all that after losing the love of her life edward, her sister scarlett, and her brother in law jameson. AND she had been being physically abused in her marriage. like this poor woman lost everyone and even lost herself because she couldn’t be herself nor could she talk about everything she went through :( i literally can’t even imagine. now let me talk about georgia and noah. omg when they first met in the bookstore and she had no idea who he was and she ended up criticizing his own books to him😭😭😭i was dyingggg and i knew their romance would be so good. i felt so bad for georgia and her past relationship because she’d been cheated on so many times and her trust was completely broken. and then her relationship with her mother :( georgia had no one except for her grandmother. i loved how noah and georgia met in a bookstore…imagine meeting the love of your life in a bookstore😭😭😭literally perfect. the way noah wanted to break down her walls and get her to trust him was everything. also when i found out this book was gonna be about noah finishing georgia’s gran’s book!!! i was so excited because i literally haven’t read anything like it and you know as a reader who loves books…it’s the best plot to read about😭what literally got me was when noah said “and called the sex unsatisfying. all i needed was one night and I’d show her exactly how satisfying it could be” AND HE DID😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨georgia literally fell in love with an author omg. i loved their romance soooo much. and the way he’d talk about georgia’s eyes😭😭pretty much the same wait jameson would talk about scarlett’s🥹🥹🥹so cute. also omg noah would always think that it would be nice to have someone like constance to help him out with georgia like constance had helped jameson with scarlett. little did noah know that hazel, georgia’s best friend, was literally team noah😭😭she was all for him and was always in georgia’s ear telling her about all the points he’d rack up. some points for being good with kids, points for when noah flew georgia’s mom out, etc. i literally loved the little parallels between the two romances. everything about this book was amazing. i already wish i could read it again for the first time. the plot twist made me sad but i was happy to know that jameson and scarlett did have their happy ending in heaven and then they got their happy ending that noah wrote to finish the book. and then noah and georgia got their happy ending too🥹even constance, when she married brian she said she was truly in love. ugh so beautiful.

*i feel like i need to write a proper review then the first one for this book because it literally RUINED my life for months but ain’t no way i can reread it im not that masochist*

First review :
This book ruined me.
Not in a bad way and neither in a good one. I literally sobbed for two hours straight and all that because of to the damn plot twist at the end😭. two puffy eyes for my 8am classes, yay!

I loved the two couples so much. Jameson and Scarlett were so pure, their relationship was heartbreaking from the first pages, the letters combined with the chapters from Scarlett’s book translating their epic love, were precious.
Noah and Georgia, were fire. Nothing much nothing less. Loved them.

"The epic, rare love story in this room isn’t Scarlett and Jameson. It’s you and me. "

“I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body. I know that i'm not strong enough to lose you. I won't survive it.”

5 stars

This book 🙌 the therapy I didn't know I needed. I'm still trying to find the words, but I'll do my best to give it the love it deserves. This will be a spoiler free review and is my first 5 star read of the year!

P.s. One thing I was curious about when starting this was if it would be sadder than the author's the Last Letter, as I didn't know anyone that had read both. For me the Last Letter was definitely sadder and I know that's hard to do because this book is also heartbreaking but you just have to read that one yourself to see why 😭

The plot

This is a dual timeline story focusing on two couples. The first of which is Georgia and Noah, set in the current time. After the death of her great grandmother Scarlett, Georgia is going through her belongings. Scarlett was a famous romance author and had left an unfinished novel of her own love story for Georgia to finish. Noah is popular author but he is known for cynical unhappy endings and ends up running into Georgia by chance. They both work together to finish writing Scarlett's love story. The epic love story of Scarlett and Jameson is set in the 1940's and touches on the events of WWII.

Scarlett and Jameson

Scarlett and Jameson's love story STOLE THE SHOW for me, they are so precious and their love story was definitely a once in a lifetime type of love. I've said it many times before but if a book has letters I am sold 💌 Watching these two fall in love and exchange letters when facing the consequences of WWII was moving.

“This is not our end. My heart will always remind with you no matter where we are. Time and distance are only inconvienances to a love like ours. Whether it's days, months, or even years, I will be waiting. We will be waiting. You'll find me where the creek bends around the swaying aspen trees, just as we both dreamed, waiting with the one we love. It's killing me to leave you, but I'll do it for you. I'll keep us safe. I will wait for you and every second, every hour, every day for the rest of my life, and if that's not enough, then eternity, which is exactly how long I'll love you, Jameson.”

Jameson is such a beautiful man I can't even begin to explain just how much I loved him. Particularly for the time period their story was set in, he was far ahead of his time. His utter devotion to Scarlett made me so emotional, I just hope that a love like this really exists.

“I didn’t know how much I loved you until I had to wake up, day after day, knowing there was no chance I’d see you smile or hear you laugh, or hell, hear you shout at me.”

“I forget my name when you touch me.”

I loved Scarlett 😭 Especially keeping in mind the role women played during that time period she had such a strong personality and willpower. She wasn't afraid to stand up for herself and remind the people in her life everything she has given up. She had already passed on when the book commenced but the impact she made on the lives around her and the love she had is felt throughout the entire book.

“Please don't treat me as less than an equal because I chose this family twice. If you wanted a wife who would do nothing more than cook your meals, warm your bed, and have your babies, then you chose the wrong woman. Don't mistake my sacrifices for smiling compliance."

“Oh love, I could never regret choosing you. You’re the very breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart. You were my choice before I even knew there was one to make.”

Noah and Georgia

“The epic, rare love story in this room isn't Scarlett and Jameson. It's you and me.”

They were cute but I did find myself getting a little bored during their chapters. It's not that their love story was bad, it was just outshined by Scarlett and Jameson's. There was one scene when she went on a hike with Noah and this is when I started to feel something for them. It does tie in nicely at the end and looking back I do think their story was executed well and added value to the plot.

I was unsure about Noah at the beginning but he did grow on me. His maturity, patience and security was refreshing to read but there wasn't much else that stood out for me.

“i’m sorry he couldn’t love you the way you deserved.”

“The first time I’d seen her, I’d known, and every time I kissed her, it only became more apparent—she was it for me. The one. The endgame. It didn’t matter that we lived a thousand miles apart or that she was still healing from her divorce. I’d wait. I’d prove myself. I’d do exactly as I promised and win her over, not just her body, but her heart.”

I absolutely loved Georgia, her thoughts resonated with me and often mirrored my own. Her reflection on her past relationship and her issues with her mother were honest and beautifully written. She really is a powerhouse FMC. She had a lot of reasons to shrivel into herself but she was resilient, knew her worth and stood up for herself.

“There's not a lot of room for creativity when you're focused on breathing."

"It's okay that you didn't know how to raise me."

Constance

Oh Constance, I love you. She deserved so much more than what she got and the bond she shared with Scarlett transcends onto every page. I loved their sisterhood and learning their story. Sometimes side characters can feel like fillers but Constance stood out and I cherished every moment.

╰⪼ Overall

The first half of the book is a little slow, but don't let that deter you because the pacing is slowly building up the back story. The pay off was 100% worth it and I did NOT see the plot twist coming. I thought I had it figured out but I wasn't even close. I had a sense of dread the entire time because I could tell something was going to happen however I still wasn't prepared. It ripped my heart out, then bandaged it back together and then stomped on it some more. The last letter? criminal. I felt it all. It's bittersweet but overall I'm happy with how it ended.

The writing is breathtaking and it's definitely a must read! *wipes the tears away and adds to my all time faves list*

Quotes

“This is not our end. My heart will always remain with you no matter where we are. Time and distance are only inconveniences to a love like ours. Whether it’s days, months, or even years, I will be waiting. We will be waiting.”

“Fine I’ll go. But you can’t stop me from loving you.”

“Kiss me,” he ordered again. “Love me first.”
“I love you always.” Her eyes softened.

“I cannot breathe in this world without you.”

“I am greedy when it comes to you.”

“Life is too short to miss the lightning strike and too long to live it alone.”

“Tonight, before I crept from our bed to write this, I tried to memorise everything about you.”

"Our fates are intertwined, for I cannot exist in a world where you do not.”

this book is a literary masterpiece and no one can tell me otherwise.

this love story will always live in my heart. i simply don’t know how i lived without them before.

“I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body.”

oh my god the love. the love between scarlett and jameson is one i will never forget. it took place in the past during world war II, and their love was so heart wrenching. i ached for them. i cried so much. every letter means so much to me. i will cherish those letters forever. every word they exchanged tore me in two. every dance they shared is living in my head and heart for eternity. it found it’s home within me. i felt so much for these characters. the love between them was so palpable.

“It wasn’t that I was living for him, but that he simply made me want to live.”

there was a second love story going on in the present involving scarlett’s great granddaughter, georgia. the love between georgia and noah was truly healing. it was a beautiful story to read. noah understood her and what she needed before she even knew herself. he was so thoughtful and patient with her.

but one thing that was noteworthy was my investment in the two relationships. from the very first chapter, i found myself engrossed in the relationship between scarlett and jameson, but i didn’t find myself all that invested in georgia and noah. i think a huge reason is because the stakes were much higher with scarlett and jameson. they had so much riding on their relationship, and you just find yourself rooting for them and hoping for the best. in comparison, the relationship between georgia and noah seems less intense and is sort of overshadowed by scarlett and jameson. i kept wanting to go back to the past and read more about them.

but then, something happened. where it all just clicked. and there was this beauty emanating from georgia and noah.

“The epic, rare love story in this room isn’t Scarlett and Jameson. It’s you and me.”

^ i beg to differ BUT
the book did what it needed to do. it showed me, as it showed georgia, that she was meant to have the love she deserved. that she came from generations of love. and learning everything that came before her made me appreciate the love georgia found so much more.

“You have been my compass all these years, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to find my way without you.”

the bond between scarlett and constance is everything. their sisterhood was a love that was so powerful. the way they were always there for each other, protected each other, and always included one another in their plans. they loved each other so much and just wanted the other to be happy. they were incomplete without each other. two beautiful souls.

“Life is too short to miss the lightning strike and too long to live it alone.”

i knew this book would break me, i just didn’t realize how badly. i cried an insane number of times. there was a melancholic feel throughout the book, and every little thing had me on the verge of tears. i loved every second of it.

beautiful quotes:

“I will wait for you every second, every hour, every day for the rest of my life, and if that’s not enough, then eternity, which is exactly how long I’ll love you.”

“Tonight, before I crept from our bed to write this, I tried to memorize everything about you.”

“I would give anything to reach through this paper, to stretch across the long miles between us just to touch you, to feel your heartbeat.”

“I am greedy when it comes to you.”

“I missed your arms around me, and the way my heart leaps whenever I see you.”

“Oh, love. I could never regret choosing you. You’re the very breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart. You were my choice before I even knew there was one to make.”

“Without the potential for disaster, would we ever really know what we have?”

“How could one person feel so much sorrow and not die from it?”

“Love me first.”
“I love you always.”

“Dance with me, Scarlett.”

He swept her off her feet, lifting her into his arms at the edge of the sidewalk. “You’re mine.”
“And you’re mine,” she replied, lacing her fingers behind his neck.

🎵 Timeless by Taylor Swift 🎵

Have you ever read a book about a couple which you never will be able to say goodbye to or move on from because they deserve to live forever in your memories and in your heart?? Yess its that book for me and Jameson and Scarlett are it for me. So this is my love letter to this book.

"Jameson,” she begged, burying her hands in his hair.
“Say it,” he demanded with a grin and another stroke.
“I love you.” She lifted her head and brought her lips to his. “My heart, my soul, my body—it’s all yours.” It was always the love you that shook his control, and this time was no exception.
"I love you,” he whispered.

This book is a ✨️ m a s t e r p i e c e ✨️ And reading this was not enough because I need each word to be forever engraved in my soul, in my heart and on my body. I need to inject Scarlett and Jameson's love in my veins just so I could never let them out of my system. Because ScarlettJameson and NoahGeorgia and Constance are everything.

The story is set in two timelines. In 1940s during the war (Scarlett and Jameson's story) and the present (Noah and Georgia's story). The transition between past and present was so smooth and I was invested in the story from the very first page and there was not a single dull moment in this and the plot twist left me with goosebumps all over my body and me sobbing for hours because I never saw it coming. I fell in love with Rebecca's elusive and incredible writing and the way it bring out all the emotions out of me everytime. The story was beautiful, adorable and bittersweet.

Was I a mess while reading this book? Yes.
Did I sobbed while reading the last 30%?? Also yes, but it was all worth it for Scarlett and Jameson 😭💘
Do I want to change the ending? No, its perfect the way it is. Though Scarlettjameson deserves so much better and every happiness in this world.

The story is about LOVE and its different forms in different kinds of setting in lives of different people and the struggles those people went through and the sacrifices they made to earn THAT LOVE. It really changed my perspective of Love, like how we always sees it through only one way. If there is romance and happy ending, its love. But what about when everything about a love story is moving towards a tragedy from the very first moment?? Its the greatest and epic kind of love. Love that fights everything and still manages to flourish in the tragedies of life.

"I’ve never seen another love like Scarlett and Jameson’s. It was one of those fated lightning strikes, miraculous to see up close, to feel the energy between the two when they were in the same room. That is the love that lives in your veins."

"The epic, rare love story in this room isn’t Scarlett and Jameson. It’s you and me."

➙ Jameson and Scarlett's Love

Their love is once in a very rare lifetime thing. For them it happened. For us it might be tragic in the end. For them it was epic and pure and is living in our hearts forever. I fell in love with them when they met on that street where Jameson fell in love Scarlett's blue eyes. Their love and romance was so captivating and mesmerisingly beautiful, precious and everything you would want for yourself no matter which ending it will have. It was tender and comfortingly sweet and it was scorching. INCREDIBLE, PASSIONATE AND TIMELESS JUST LIKE THEM.

"Dance with me, Scarlett.”
“All right.” She couldn’t resist. He was magnetic, sinfully gorgeous, and ridiculously charming.

"He wasn’t sure what to call that color of blue, but her eyes were stunning, and he was, well, stunned."

"I mean pilots.” She nodded toward the wings on his uniform. “I don’t see pilots.”
"Shame.” He clicked his tongue.
"It is most assuredly my loss,” she professed,
“No, I mean it’s a shame that I’ll have to resign. I do love to fly." A corner of Jameson’s mouth quirked a little higher.

I adored all their beautiful moments and their letters. They cared for each other, they loved each other, they teased, they bantered, they fought, they made up because they understood each other so well. They are a perfect fit. Jameson made Scarlett the most happiest person and She gave up on so many things for him, for love, for William.

"Only with Jameson did Scarlett allow herself to simply feel. The need, the longing, the pain, the overwhelming ache of love in her heart—she surrendered to it all."

"I love you, Scarlett, and it’s not the kind of love that fades with distance or time. I’m yours and have been since the first time I looked into your eyes. I’ll be yours no matter how much time passes before I see your eyes again. Always."

"I know I’m not what you pictured when you thought of marriage. I don’t have a title, or even a country right now.” He grimaced. “But what I do have is yours, Scarlett. My heart, my name, my very being—it’s all yours. And I promise I will spend every day of my life earning the privilege of your love if you let me. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

What is love? For them it was something precious they found amidst all the wars and bombing and raids. Something they found in each other's soul that can be called as their own. Something to cherish and something to protect to, no matter what. Something that made them as reckless as they could, because who knows what the next minute would bring them. Their love is out of this world and I love them with every bone in my body.

"We’ll do it together. You are mine, Scarlett Wright, and I am yours."

“I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body."

"I love you, Scarlett Stanton. I have loved you since our first dance, and I will love you the rest of my life."

➙ Noah and Georgia's Love

NoahGeorgia were fire and their love burned when they loved. They had this undeniable chemistry and spark and their hate to love relationship made it even more perfect. The push and pull between them, the sexual tension and their bantering was just perfect. The slow burn between was literally burning and it was all worth it in the end ❤️‍🔥

“Hey,” Noah said softly, backing into the center of the room and holding out his hand for mine. “Come dance with me, Georgia.”

"Are you sure? I don’t want to tie you down if you have hot Halloween plans.”
“Maybe I like being tied down,” I said as evenly as I could manage.
He arched a single brow, and his eyes darkened. “Go take your call.” I stifled a grin. Guess he wasn’t the only audacious flirt around here.
“Trouble. Georgia Stanton, you are pure trouble.”

They literally are opposite of each other and never agreed on the same thing. Georgia is ice queen while Noah is fire and together they were just epic and everything. He never forced anything on her and tried to earn her trust because he knew she had trust issues and Noah walked in her life when she needed someone the most. Someone she could trust and rely on. And even though Georgia was always a little closed off, Noah broke all her walls she made to protect herself. God they are so perfect and I just love them so much 😭💘

“Georgia,” he said against my mouth, my name somewhere between a plea and a prayer as he drew back slightly, searching my eyes.
“You won me over,” I whispered, my hands sliding to the back of his neck.

"The first time I’d seen her, I’d known, and every time I kissed her, it only became more apparent—she was it for me. The one. The endgame."

I just want more of them and everything. I'm so happy that they found each other and for Georgia who found her epic love like her Gran always wanted for her.

He tilted my chin to look in my eyes. “I am completely, wholeheartedly, madly in love with you, Georgia Constance Stanton.” The intensity in those words was echoed in his
eyes.

➙ Scarlett and Constance's Sister Love

You have no idea how much I adore them. Scarlett and Constance are each other's shadow who were always there for each other to protect and to love. The things they both did to see the other happy especially the sacrifices Constance made for Scarlett 😭 there's nothing like this sister bond. Its beyond everything in this world.

➸ Jameson Stanton

A carefree and reckless pilot who is charming and gorgeous as hell and who loves like no one could. He's flirty but damn he's such a sweetheart 💘 he's so selfless and caring and the things he did for his family was everything even though it cost him so much more. The things he did for scarlett and how he showed her his love and everything had me crying happy tears. He was such a goner for her 😭
I just love love him so much. I want my own Jameson Stanton right now 🥺💘

"Scarlett, my Scarlett, how are you, my heart?"

"Jameson watched her like she was a play and he couldn’t wait to see what happened next."

"You are so exquisitely beautiful, Scarlett.” He looked stunned, astonished really, and hungry."

"You have no idea how badly I want to kiss you right now, Scarlett."

➸ Scarlett Stanton

She is fierce, stubborn, selfless and loyal to her job and family and a romantic at heart. She is the most incredible woman ever and the way she never gave up on anything ever and always said what she meant. She is amazing and just like Jameson she have every bit of my heart. It broke my heart when she had to give up her job for a family she was making with Jameson 😭 She deserved so much better and I admire her so much for how brave and compassionate she was about her work and everything.

➸ Georgia Stanton

She's just like Scarlett. Fierce and stubborn with trust issues and had her heartbroken because of her mother. She carries herself with confidence and power even though she is broken inside. I'm glad she had her Gran who treated her like her own daughter. I know she was a bit grumpy but I've loved her from the very start. She is the epitome of Scarlett and Jameson's story the generations of love which brings her here.

➸ Noah Morelli

I disliked him a bit when he first appeared because of how he behaved like an asshole to Georgia but damn just like Georgia, he really made his place in my heart too. He's caring, thoughtful and smart and such a gentleman. He was even ready to destroy his career for his love 😭 I loved it how he tried to earn Georgia's trust and everything and understood her. Why does this book have all the incredible men that I can't find in real world.

➸ Constance Wright

My sweet and thoughtful Constance. I just want to protect her from everything she endured in her life 😭 she deserves so much better. She is so caring and selfless and didn't even bat an eye when her sister needed her the most. She's just incredible and the best wingsman who brought Scarlett and Jameson together.

The ending wrecked my soul and shattered my heart in so many pieces but also put it back together with Noah and Georgia's story and the ending Noah gave to Scarlett and Jameson and Constance. I never thought it would end like this but somehow it made sense in the end but that doesn't mean it hurt any less. I was sad but also happy for Scarlett and Jameson. But it was true they would follow each other even in death. Constance's truth broke my heart but I was also happy for her 🥺💗 And I loved how Georgia was finally happy with Noah and was finally making a family of their own. It was perfect!

I sobbed for hours after I finished this book. It was both sad tears and happy ones. I still don't think this review will ever tell you how much I loved this masterpiece book because there are no words that can describe it in this world. I love this book and its characters with all my heart. You all have to read about them and have to meet them and trust me even if you'll cry your heart out it will be worth it. Because they all are worth it.

OMFG!! AM I FUCKING BAWLING MY EYES OUT!?! NOPE DEFINITELY NOT IM OKAY REALLY IM OKAYY IST- 😭

REBECCA HONESTLY YOU DIDN'T HAD TO SHATTER MY HEART IN SHREDS AND CRUSH MY SOUL WITH THIS HEART-WRENCHING PIECE OF ART!! YOU'RE DEF GONNA PAY FOR MY THERAPY 😭 ❤️‍🩹

➳ This book follows the journey of two broken souls, brought together by fate and haunted by their pasts. The characters were very beautifully crafted, with depth and authenticity. The chemistry between them is palpable, and their journey towards healing is both heart-wrenching and heartwarming.

This book revolved around two different love stories moving around two different timelines and honestly both of them were equally painful yet so damn beautiful. This book was fast paced and so filled with angst and pain.

I loved all the characters so much but constance was the one whom I'd die for 🫶🏻

➳ 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙖

Georgia is the protagonist of the story, and her journey is both heartbreaking and inspiring. She is a resilient and talented artist, using her art as a way to cope with her pain. Georgia's growth throughout the novel is remarkable, as she learns to heal, trust, and find love again. Her vulnerability and determination make her a stunning and compelling character 🥹💕

➳ 𝙉𝙤𝙖𝙝

Noah is Georgia's love interest and an integral part of her healing process. Noah 's understanding and support for Georgia demonstrate his depth of character and his ability to love unconditionally. His role in helping Georgia find healing and embracing life is heartwarming ♥️

➳ 𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙣

The love story of Scarlett and Jameson was so painstakingly beautiful and left me being miserable and with a major heartbreak and im very sure I'd be dealing with a major book hangover after this one. Honestly their love story was one of those story that doesn't leave your mind even after you have read that book long ago.

HONESTLY LOVE LIKE THEM ONLY EXIST IN THE BOOKS 😭

AND YES HOW CAN WE NOT TALK ABOUT THE LAST LETTER 🥹 SO VERY UNEXPECTED AND DISHEARTENING. i honestly didn't even thought that book would take this 90° turn , it legit had me gasping ; so unpredictable but definitely loved it so very much.

Rebecca's writing style is captivating, evoking a range of emotions throughout the story. The author's writing style is very engaging and easy to read. She expertly balanced the moments of heartache with glimpses of hope, drawing me in and keeping me engrossed until the very end.

"I love you so much that my heart
feels like it beats within your body."

🎧 sad beautiful tragic by taylor. i promise she wrote this for them

their love story was so heartbreakingly beautiful, poetic, and i want more. scarlett and jameson, my loves <3

"You’re the very breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart. You were my choice before I even knew there was one to make."

this book follows the love story between two couples. jameson and scarlett. noah and georgia. who do i prefer u may ask? jameson and scarlett without a doubt. they put my heart together just to fucking step on it. but that's ok because i love them so much. their love was so so pure.

"Our fates are intertwined, for I cannot exist in a world where you do not."

there's just so much i could say about scarjame. the way they loved each other was so revolutionary. they're my romeo and juliet.

'It simply wasn’t possible to live in a world where he didn’t exist, and therefore he couldn’t be dead.'

☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚

now, onto georgia and noah

“Do you want to kiss me?” she challenged.
“More than I want my next breath."

i didn't like their love story. scarlett & jameson overshadowed them so much and that was kind of disappointing since they had so much potential at the start. i felt absolutely nothing the entire time.

‘I’ve never seen another love like Scarlett and Jameson’s. It was one of those fated lightning strikes, miraculous to see up close, to feel the energy between the two when they were in the same room. That is the love that lives in your veins.’

anyway, the fucking plot twist stabbed me in the heart a million times, pulled my poor heart out, and stepped on it. you cannot begin to understand my feelings of betrayal.

∘°∘♡∘°∘∘°∘♡∘°∘∘°∘♡∘°∘∘°∘♡∘°∘

➻“Kiss me,” he ordered again. “Love me first.”
“I love you always.” Her eyes softened.

➻"But what I do have is yours, Scarlett. My heart, my name, my very being-it's all yours. And I promise I will spend every day of my life earning the privilege of your love if you let me."

➻“These months have been unbearable without you.” He leaned his forehead against hers. “I didn’t know how much I loved you until I had to wake up, day after day, knowing there was no chance I’d see you smile or hear you laugh, or hell, hear you shout at me.”

➻“I cannot breathe in this world without you.”

➻"I forget my name when you touch me,” he said

➻“How are you, my heart?”

➻“Dance with me, Scarlett”

➻“I won’t be okay until I’m with you again. You’re taking my heart with you."

” I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body”

🎶 You draw stars around my scars and now I’m bleeding🎶

This was phenomenal, this was everything. It’s So heartbreakingly beautiful, very consuming and addicting, very beautifully written. Contains one of the most epic love stories I’ve ever read 💘 definitely one of the best painful books i’ve read this year 🫶🏻

What this book did to me 🫶🏻
Heart : broken ✔️
Soul : crushed ✔️
Eyes : red and full of tears ✔️

“ everything will change “
“ not the way i love you”

Scarlett & Jameson 💌💞

I’m so deeply in love with them. I can’t even describe it. Their love story was so unique, so beautiful and heartbreaking. The happiness they felt made me sigh out loud and smile. Their times together were beautiful, emotional and their love was so powerful. Their moments together created butterflies in my stomach. They had the kind of love that you found once in lifetime.Chapter 38 is their ending for me i will not believe anything else 🫶🏻

I absolutely loved the vibes their relationship gave me. The phonograph, Scarlett dresses, Jameson gentleness and politeness. They gave me everything 🫶🏻 i loved the way Jameson would always say “ we will figure it out together” not “ I’ll figure it out”. I loved the way they shared everything together and were always truthful towards one another. I loved the way they saw each other as partner and soulmates not just husband and wife. If i kept talking about them i will never stop. They will always have special place in my heart. i could see them in every love song 💘

I love you Scarlett, and it’s not the kind of love that fades with distance or time. I’m yours and i’ve been since the first time i looked into your eyes, I’ll be yours no matter how much time passes before i see your eyes again. Always”

Georgia & Noah 💌

Their relationship was cute 💞 but i was not interested. The only interesting part about their chapters were the letters and when they talked about Scarlett and Jameson epic love story. They talked about Scarlett and Jameson more than they talked about each other. There was times where i wanted to read the letters and skip their chapters so bad. But anyway i still loved them 🫶🏻

“ How long do I have you for?”
“ how long would you like me?”
“ Forever” 🥹🤧

Scarlett & Constance🫂💘

The bond between the sisters was such a wonderful part of this story and it too pulled my emotions in so many ways with how their lives unfolded. There was this certain chapter about certain letter that destroyed me 💔 constance deserves the world 🫂

The plot twist was so devastatingly painful that I sobbed. I couldn’t stop the tears that were falling down my face as I flipped through the pages. I was/ still in so much pain over it.

beautiful and favorite quotes

“ Scarlett stood in the door way. Her jacket folded over one arm. she looked like heaven”

” you are exquisitely beautiful Scarlett”

” every night of our lives will be our honeymoon.I’m going to spend the rest of my life making you deliciously happy”

“ I love you in whatever role you play. What ever uniform you want to wear. Who ever you want to be. I will love you”

“ I’m not sorry about anything that’s led me to you”

“ I forget my name when you touch me “

“ dance with me Scarlett “

“My heart will always remain with you no matter where we are.”

Simply a masterpiece of a romance

I smiled, laughed, and BAWLED MY EYES OUT — it was bittersweet . This left me completely emotionally wrecked, ruining me in the best way possible. I’m never gonna get over this story. This is one of those romance novels you can feel with your heart and soul bc it has a timeless and real life aspect to it. *I will say it did feel slow initially bc of the buildup esp as the past parts were lengthy but it picks up*

I loved the concept of the past and present intertwined, the love, the journey in how it began to how it concluded, the letters, esp that emotional heart wrenching twist at the end and final letter. The writing, pacing, and alternating timelines of history and modern day was utterly enthralling to say the least. I deeply appreciated the dual povs bc It all felt so real and raw besides heartbreaking.

The plot twist at the end was not at all what I expected 😭😭 it was clearly not the plot twist we were ALL hoping for. WHY WOULD YOU SET US UP LIKE THAT REBECCA?? I felt soo betrayed.

I was amazed at how Rebecca managed to write out both MMC’s in such a way that you can appreciate both men for who they were in their respected times. The undying beautiful love between Jameson and Scarlett and Georgia and Noah’s developing journey through trust and chance for sure won me over.

“But I wanted her. I was supposed to know this woman — I felt it with every fiber of my being.”

Noah was amazing. I loved how he exuded such compassion, sarcasm, and overall charm. More so how he truly saw Georgia for who she was and her worth. Every single detail on his end was so thoughtful. I loved how patient and gentle he was to learn what the problem was in her lack of trust in him — allowing her to see for herself how that could be possible.

“The epic, rare love story in this room isn’t Scarlett and Jameson. It’s you and me.” (I disagree but I liked how this sounded)

“You want me to put my life in your hands” “I want you to put Scarlett's life in my hands, which I think starts with yours.”

Her trust issues were within reason given her ex and mother. Her mother pissed me the fuck off I wanted to smack the only motherly sense into her bc wthhh was wrong with her.

“There’s not a lot of room for creativity when you’re focused on breathing.”

“There's a warning, a sound your heart makes the first time it realizes it's no longer safe with the person you trusted.”

Georgia was for sure stubborn but I don’t blame her she went through the only disappoint and betrayal from those closest to her. Regardless of that, she was headstrong and resilient and I loved that about her. Esp the close relationship she had with Scarlett.

“Shame.” He clicked his tongue. (Scarlett not going out with Jameson)
“It is most assuredly my loss,” she professed the words ringing true in her own ears.
“No, I mean it’s a shame that I’ll have to resign. I do love to fly.” (I wish he stood true to his word)

“I want to marry you because it’s a foregone conclusion. It doesn’t matter if we date another year, Scarlett, we’re going to end up married eventually.”

“But what I do have is yours, Scarlett. My heart, my name, my very being — it’s all yours.”

As for Jameson, his character was everything and more. He was so endearing, also gentle, also charming, audaciously flirty as well and poetic in his way. My favorite part with him? EVERYTHING. But esp their first encounter from him asking her out, their first kiss in the moment that it happened and all that came next with that. His and Scarlett’s story only happened bc of his insistence which started all of this and I was living and breathing for it. Both were two strangers from opposite countries living through a war they didn’t know when it’s end would be — always holding out hope that they’d have more time when it didn’t feel like enough.

“It was always one more minute with them. One more kiss. One more touch. One more lingering look.”
“You are so exquisitely beautiful, Scarlett." He looked stunned, astonished really, and hungry.”

The build up to their relationship was achingly beautiful.Their love made so much possible and felt like a love that undeniably would stand the testament of time — simply undying and that “lives in your veins” and I’m crying again ugh they way they spoke to each other was so intimately beautifull and I just wanna know where can I find myself a Jameson?? 🥲

“This is not our end. My heart will always remain with you no matter where we are. Time and distance are only inconveniences to a love like ours. Whether it’s days, months, or even years, I will be waiting. We will be waiting. You’ll find me where the creek bends around the swaying aspen trees, just as we both dreamed, waiting with the one we love. It’s killing me to leave you, but I’ll do it for you. I’ll keep us safe. I will wait for you every second, every hour, every day for the rest of my life, and if that’s not enough, then eternity, which is exactly how long I’ll love you, Jameson. Come back to me, my love.” 😭

“It lives in you. You are the culmination of every lighting strike and twist of fate”

Scarlett and Constance — my loves. The true definition of sisterly love 🫂 they both went through their share of pain during a time of such angst in their own ways. Both lived through a war where not everyday is guaranteed (it’s as if you’re living on borrowed time) and living through expectations and such loss — it felt so very surreal and both deserved so much better. But somehow you can find solace in how their fate unraveled. Just know Constance will always have a place in my mind and heart.

This was one of the most epic literary romance masterpieces I’ve read. Idc idc. A must read if you want to go through the motions

My only question without spoiling it for those that read it — do you think William knew?

Other quotes that I loved:

“I love you, Jameson. Stay safe. Our fates are intertwined, for I cannot exist in a world where you do not.”

“Some lessons we simply have to learn for ourselves”

“I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body.”

“Sometimes I wonder if I just enjoy the beginnings, and that's why I never seem to move past them. The beginnings are what make everything romantic."

“Only with Jameson did Scarlett allow herself to simply feel. The need, the longing, the pain, the overwhelming ache of love in her heart — she surrendered to it all.”

“Oh, love. I could never regret choosing you. You’re the very breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart. You were my choice before I even knew there was one to make.”

“There are a million variations of any situation. No two people are alike. The tiniest change to any encounter could leave us with very different results.”

“Perhaps the kindest thing I could do for the characters would be to leave their stories unfinished.
Leave them with their possibilities, their potential, even if they only exist in my own mind."

“Scarlett, my Scarlett, how are you, my heart?”

“Perhaps she had romanticized a detail or two, but wasn’t that what love did anyway? It softened the sharper, uglier moments of life.”

“You were always meant for happiness, Constance, and I’m so sorry that my choices robbed you of so many chances to find it. There will always be a place for you with me.”

I don't know why I bothered finishing this book, it was such a slog to get through. It's over 100 pages too long, and meanders. I really wanted to like this. The premise was intriguing but the writing was inconsistent, purple prose in one section and then weirdly crass language used to describe the main characters' bodies in the next. The male was hard and muscly and the female was soft and curvy but both had tight asses apparently. I absolutely hated the alternating first person perspectives for Noah and Georgia with the third person grandparents love storyline sprinkled in. I felt that it really slowed down the flow of the book and took you out of it. In the end, the grandparents storyline being there made sense and I didn't mind it but the book had been so long and hard to get through that I couldn't tell if I didn't mind it or I just didn't care. I will say that the author did a good job of writing different voices for all her characters that they were easy to distinguish which was a welcome after the last few books I read with alternating narrators all sounding the same. The twist was a good one, I didn't see it coming but Noah being upset that Georgia chose to change the ending to the one he wanted was strange and her shouting it's because I love you! made no sense in context. It wasn't entirely wrong but it was just jarring and weird because it was obvious she was trying to save his career. Noah and Georgia's love story felt really underdeveloped so a lot of their actions and reactions made no sense. Like Noah inviting Georgia's mom to magically heal years of neglect so Georgia can trust and love again, or him lying about finishing the book so he can convince her to love him back. I am glad she called out his manipulation at the very least. Then Georgia feeling upset when Noah gets bad reviews after the ending she chose leaked and so her changing the ending to the one Noah wanted to save his career rather than publicly saying that she had rights to choose the ending because she was Scarlett Stanton's granddaughter made no sense, neither did Noah insisting on the happy ending as if he knew Georgia's grandmother better than her or his assertion that the ending Georgia chooses indicates her readiness to love and trust. Honestly, the happy ending for Jameson and Scarlett made no sense given that it was autobiographical. The more realistic ending Georgia wanted made way more sense and wasn't any less romantic. Honestly, the writing and the storyline was just so odd and awkward at times. The plotlines and characters felt really underdeveloped due to the parallel storylines. The book also read very imperialist, America is always right, and super white to me. 2/5 stars

Oh God, I have an unshakable urge to lay down and stare at the ceiling while absorbing all the shits that happened. It's so sad how heart-shatteringly beautiful this book is.

As I start reading this book, I took my time slowly cause I know this is going to be filled with heavy stuffs. It is but not in a boring way. There are two timelines in this book, one is present and one dated back to WW2. (This is actually my first historical romance on WW2 that I read) at first I felt like meeeeeh I didn't feel the excitement but after I kept reading I was instantly hooked. And it was actually funny how I constantly switching in which timelines I prefer following better throughout the book. But this is a proof that this book is such a page-turner.

I loved it. Every single moment of the book.
♡ The MCs are incredible, we have two pairs MCs here and both are just remarkably well developed.
♡ The romance? Pure bliss, I can definitely feel that what they were having is an otherworldly passionate love that I don't think I feel in every other book I read so far.
♡ I wouldn't even guess that I would experience the most heart-slicing twist with this book. I didn't even see it coming from an inch in front of me.
♡ I would say that a perfect romance book always sprinkled with a good heart-slicing, heart-shattering, heart-stabbing scene. This book is just..... well it safe to say that I was constantly getting washed with waves of FEELS in some parts of the book.
♡ the spice was special and romantic, almost poetic.
♡ this book just made me feel ✨️everything✨️

God, I'm not sure what to write anymore. But in my standard (that actually quite low), if I read a book and I felt hundreds different layers of feeling, I would say the book succeed in winning my heart. and dare I say that this book is that perfect book. As I always say to myself, why do I read? I read because I want to feel good. I want to feel good by feeling all the feelings that a book could provide.

Well this book? Certainly does it job for me. I would put this in my favorite shelf but I don't think I'm going to reread it because I don't think I can't handle the heartbreak one more time 💔

“Scarlett, my Scarlett.”

this book, oh this book 😮‍💨❤️‍🩹

i rly wasn't kidding when i said i didn't know i needed this book in my life. i love this book sfm. this book killed me. this book made me feel so many emotions. i laughed, i cried, i swooned, i cried some more, i screamed, cried a lot more-

when i started it, i didn't know what it was about, i didn't know who it was about, i just know it was a sobfest and that was enough for me to stay away from this book forever. but then idek what came over me and i decided to give it a try.

i wish i never read this book. i wish i had read it sooner. 😭

I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body.

scarjames scarjames scarjames 😭❤️‍🩹 i love them sfm i'm in love with their love and as i said many times by now, i don't think i've felt sm for a couple after wangxian and that's saying something. soulmatism at it's finest istg. the way they love each other had me sobbing. i want a love like theirs but ykw it's not even possible 😔 i always say i lose interest in a ship once they get together but not with scarjames they could be doing something as domestic as washing dishes together and i'd be giggling, blushing, squealing. idk how i ever lived without knowing them.

It wasn’t that I was living for him, but that he simply made me want to live.

while i wasn't as invested in giginoah georgianoah, that doesn't mean i didn't enjoy reading about them. their story was such a breath of fresh air from all the heaviness sometimes the past chapters would bring me. their banter and the way noah slowly but surely made georgia (and me) fall in love with him the way he never gave up on her and understood her and ahh i loved them too 😭

Life is too short to miss the lightning strike and too long to live it alone.

i can't write a review for this book without mentioning my girl, constance. she's everything to me. her story killed me but i'm so proud of that girl she's undoubtedly become one of my comfort characters idc i love her too much.

You’re the very breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart.

this book and scarjames hold a very special place in my heart and i can't wait to reread it soon bc i just knoww i'm gonna reread it A LOT. 😭

“I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body.”

Jameson and Scarlett were everything. I loved their story, their banter, their romance. It was everything. I loved reading their story so much. I found myself rooting for them hoping that they make it.

The sisterhood bond between Scarlett and Constance was amazing! I love family relationships and the way those two sisters were always there for each other? It was both heartbreaking and beautiful. I loved them.

“Dance with me, Scarlett.”

I have to admit that I expected a different ending. I swear I saw it, but when I started to see how it’s gonna turn out? Ugh I was so happy and so sad. It was weird. I was happy for Scarlett because I couldn’t see her with a different ending, but still sad because of everything else.

Noah and Georgia were okay I guess. They actually have a great romance. It’s just that Jameson and Scarlett kind of stole the show for me. They were just so captivating. I found myself more into their story.

4 ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟s❣️

I don’t think there are a lot of readers who would not acknowledge the amazing writing of Rebecca Yarros! It is gripping and emotional!
I was anticipating and had the best intentions for this new release.

There were two completely different, yet beautiful, love stories unraveling in this book.
One in the 40s, where the main couple was Jameson and Scarlett and the other in present time with, Scarlett’s great granddaughter, Georgia and Noah.

I fell in love with Scarlett and Jameson’s love story. Completely!
Georgia and Noah’s story was wonderful, however didn’t manage to captivate me as much as her great grandmother’s.

My main issue was that I felt I was alternately reading two different books in parallel. They were being developed in dissimilar time period, changed by turns throughout the chapters and had naturally a different style, which had my interest divided.

5 beautiful Stars and a kiss⭐💋

"𝑂ℎ, 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒. 𝐼 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑟𝑒𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑡 𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑦𝑜𝑢. 𝑌𝑜𝑢'𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑉𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡ℎ 𝑖𝑛 𝑚𝑦 𝑙𝑢𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑦 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡. 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑚𝑦 𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑖𝑐𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝐼 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑘𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒."

This book left me completely 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥.

I'm still grieving and I have no words to say nor describe exactly how I feel about this.

The plot left me fazed dizzy Gut-wrenched. Simply, all sorts of emotions.

𝑺𝒂𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕&𝑱𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒏:

"𝐹𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑚𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑓𝑒, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒"

I found myself crying again for the millionth time when I was scrolling through the highlighted quotes, most of which (if not all of them) were scarjame ones.

(Also can we talk about how beautifully poetic the writing style in their chapters was?? Bc, for me it was PERFECT)

I love Scarlett and Jameson for eternity with my whole heart, they're living in my mind rent free. I was instantly attached to them. Their bonding, their chemistry, their love, their connection... Everything about them was tragic, unimpaired, and palpable. I want a love like theirs. They were very much aware of the risk, but they still took it. they learned how to love and adore each other admist war and bombshells, suffered, and tried to relish every waking moment they had together.

"𝐼 𝑠𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑟, 𝐼 𝑓𝑒𝑙𝑡 𝑚𝑦 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑘 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑝𝑖𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦𝑒𝑡 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑦 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑏𝑟𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑛 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢"

The fact that you're going into this knowing fully well from the beginning that their happiness isn't gonna last for too long was so heartbreaking. It felt bittersweet when reading their chapters. I always wanted them happy. I would've protected them from this war myself ❤️‍🩹

𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕&𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆

And will never forget about Scarlett and constance 💗 they had the best relationship ever. I found myself so connected to them. The way they were looking out for one another, cared deeply for each other, and how constance played a big role in Scarlett and Jameson's story. It was devastatingly beautiful 🫶

𝑵𝒐𝒂𝒉&𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒊𝒂

"𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝐼'𝑑 𝑠𝑒𝑒𝑛 ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝐼'𝑑 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝐼 𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑 ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝑖𝑡 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡. 𝑆ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑖𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑒. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑒. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑔𝑎𝑚𝑒"

Tbh both love stories were so heartwarming. It's just that I feel like Georgia and Noah's love wasn't as potent as Scarlett and Jameson's.

Yes both Georgianoah and Jamesonscarlet had an immediate feeling of attraction toward each other. however, Jameson and Scarlet's love felt entirely different, adorable and pure, and their characters were easily loveable. Georgia (whom I still haven't warmed up to) reminded me so much of Scarlett. I couldn't understand her actions sometimes but I loved Noah. I admired that he was adamant to learn how to understand Georgia, how he wanted to crwal his way into her heart and tried his best to, always wanted to help her and get her out of her comfort zone, always kept up with her and wanted to earn her trust, teached her how to readapt after her divorce and looked out for her, They were so sweet together💗

The Things We Leave Unfinished is an excellent book with two great love stories. This book is emotional. The book alternates between Scarlett and Jameson’s love story during World War II and Georgia and Noah in present day Colorado. Yarros pulls the reader into the story and then switches back and forth between both stories in a way that makes it impossible for the reader to put down. This book is an emotional roller coaster. The whole book leads up to a crazy twist that I didn’t see coming. Besides the two beautiful love stories, different family relationships are displayed. Georgia has a complicated relationship with her mother while Noah has a great relationship with his mother and sister. Georgia has trust issues and is always helping her mother. Noah has a bad reputation and makes a bad first impression but keeps fighting for Georgia’s trust. Scarlett is a strong, independent woman that is always looking out for her loved ones. Jameson is charming and all he wants is for Scarlett to be safe and happy. Scarlett and her sister, Constance are best friends and always looking out for each other. The stories are unique. Nobody writes emotional romances like Rebecca Yarros and The Things We Leave Unfinished is another great one.

Thank you Rebecca Yarros, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for The Things We Leave Unfinished.

“My heart will always remain with you no matter where we are.”

I loved this book so much! This was such a beautiful and heartbreaking love story about love, second chances, grief, and family. The Things We Leave Unfinished follows Georgia as she moves back to Colorado after a recent divorce and runs into Noah Harrison, an author who insists that he would be the best author to finish her grandmother's final book. They eventually decide to make a deal, Noah has two months to finish the book and Georgia can decide on the ending for the book. Noah starts falling for Georgia, but she puts walls up around her. Will Noah be able to make her fall? This book also follows Scarlett, Georgia's grandmother and her greatest love Jameson during WWII.

"I will wait for you every second, every hour, everyday for the rest of my life, and if that's not enough, then eternity, which is exactly how long I'll love you Jameson. Come back to me, my love."

I fell in love with the characters and the story from the very beginning. The plot was very engaging and the pacing was great. The writing was so beautiful, it was so relatable and poetic. I felt like I was in the characters head feeling and thinking what they thought. I loved that the author was able to link the two storylines together, it really brought the story together in a beautiful way. I felt so many emotions while reading this book, I cried, I smiled and I laughed.

"I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body."

The characters were relatable and layered. I love Georgia, she is independent, stubborn, kind, creative, intelligent and resilient. I'm so proud of Georgia for facing difficult challenges, especially her divorce and coming out the other side as an even stronger person. I'm in love with Noah, he is so sweet, smart, very handsome, protective, hardworking and kind. I loved Noah's bond with his sister and how protective he was to Georgia. I love that when Noah made a mistake he made sure to apologize and explain the situation. I also love Scarlett, she is stubborn, kind, loving, loyal, and compassionate. I'm also in love with Jameson, he is brave, smart, loyal, friendly, very handsome and protective. I also loved Constance and I loved her bond with Scarlett. Scarlett and Jameson's relationship and their love for each was so beautiful. I loved that they understood each other, and would do anything for each other. Scarlett's and Jameson's chemistry was amazing. I also loved Noah and Georgia's relationship, they were able to stay true to themselves, but also be there for each other.

"But what I do have is yours, Scarlett. My heart, my name, my very being - it's all yours."

The ending was so beautiful and heartbreaking. This story will stay in my heart for a long time.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, slow-burn, amazing characters and beautiful writing.

Dance with me, Scarlett

My review won’t do this story any justice.

I went into this book completely blind and unprepared for the emotional whiplash. After I started reading this book I started taking my time because I just did not want this story to end. The dual timelines and POV was *chef kiss*. This book broke my heart into a million pieces. This story is so beautifully heartbreaking. My heart aches for everyone in this book.

“I love you so much that my heart feels like it beats within your body.”

Scarlett and Jameson- This love is the love I feel like everyone dreams about. The definition of love at first sight. I only hope that everyone can experience a love like this in their lifetime.

Scarlett- words were so wise and gentle through and through. I love her spirt and the way she loves and protects the people around her. I admire her so much in this book.

Jameson- the love of my life lol. What a true hero. From the way he loves and protects Scarlett. His loyalty to the war. Everything about him makes you fall in love with in every page and every letter.

Scarlett and Constance- I loved these two relationship. I truly believe a sisters love is like no other.

Constance- I will ride to the end of the earth for you. Constance deserves everything beautiful and loving in this world. I love her so much.

Dance with me, Georgia

Noah and Georgia- At first I was not invested in their story BUT that changed quickly. The slow burn was slow burning for real.

Georgia- This lady went through the ringer and she came out on top of the world. Her fearless attitude was admirable.

Noah- The way he fell hard in love omg. Such a sweet man.

"The epic, rare love story in this room isn't Scarlett and Jameson. It's you and me."

Quotes-

This book is full of beautiful quotes. Here are a few.

“I love you, Scarlett, and it’s not the kind of love that fades with distance or time. I’m yours and have been since the first time I looked into your eyes. I’ll be yours no matter how much time passes before I see your eyes again. Always.”

“This is not our end. My heart will always remain with you no matter where we are. Time and distance are only inconveniences to a love like ours. Whether it’s days, months, or even years, I will be waiting. WE will be waiting.”

“Our fates are intertwined, for I cannot exist in a world where you do not.”

“I see the way he looks at her, like she’s the reason the seasons change and the sun rises until they’re a hundred and one years old.”

“I will wait for you every second, every hour, every day for the rest of my life, and if that’s not enough, then eternity, which is exactly how long I’ll love you,”

once my tears dry and i can see again, i will post my actual review.

update:

welcome to my actual review, strap in…

i’m writing this review with a river of tears pouring down my face. happy tears? sad tears? honestly, i can’t even tell anymore. all i know is that this book broke me in the best way.

the first thing i want to point out is how absolutely beautiful rebecca yarros’ writing is.♥️ i genuinely don’t think i’ve ever read a book that reads as beautiful as this book does. rebecca has a real way with words, that i will say.

this is a dual pov that is set in two timelines, telling two amazing love stories. i absolutely adored the characters in this book🫶🏻 (aside from two very specific characters, they are irrelevant).

even though it is made very clear from the beginning that scarlett and jameson don’t get a happily ever after, you are still left hoping throughout the entire book that somehow, someway something will happen and they will get their happy ending. let’s just say it’s bittersweet.

also, i did not expect there to be a plot twist in this book??? um… hello?! thought that was worth mentioning

let’s talk relationships

scarlett & georgia
i absolutely adored how scarlett and georgia’s relationship was painted. even though we never actually see them interact, their grandmother/granddaughter relationship was like no other 😭💞

🔆 “you taught me that not all moms are called mom. mine was called gran.”

scarlett & jameson
their love story is like no other😭 the most genuinely heartwarming (and heartbreaking) love story i’ve ever read about. their unconditional love for each other literally seeps through the pages as you’re reading❤️‍🩹 if i don’t find a love like theirs, i don’t want it.

🔆 “scarlett, my scarlett”

🔆 “she could have asked for the moon, and he would have flown his spitfire into the stratosphere just to get her to look at him like she was right now.”

🔆 “scarlett didn’t melt; she came alive under his touch.”

🔆 “please stay safe, my love. i cannot breathe in this world without you. be careful. before you know it, we’ll be together again.”

🔆 “love me first” “i love you always”

🔆 “i love you, jameson. stay safe. our fates are intertwined, for i cannot exist in a world where you do not. love, scarlett”

georgia & noah
their love was slow burn, (unlike scarlett and jameson’s) but it was beautiful in an entirely different way.❤️‍🩹they found themselves in each other and learned to love like they never had before. georgia had trust issues due to multiple different factors throughout her life. noah was bound and determined to get her to trust him and never once judged her for her trust issues (he might have judged her character once but my man’s adam humbled him immediately) also, noah’s relationship with his mom and he’s good with kids?? mama’s boys that are good with kids are always a soft spot for me. 🥹😭

🔆 “because you love me.” “because i love you”

🔆 “you are incredible, georgia stanton”

🔆 “i don’t need you to say it back. not yet. in fact, please don’t. i want you to say it in your own time, when you’re ready. and if you don’t love me yet, don’t worry, i’ll win you over”

🔆 “i promise i’ll never take anything you don’t wholeheartedly want to give me, georgia.”

🔆 ”i am completely, wholeheartedly, madly in love with you, georgia constance stanton.”

🔆 “the epic, rare love story in this room isn’t scarlett and jameson. it’s you and me.”

needless to say, this book broke me and put me back together again about fifty different times😭 rebecca yarros needs to pay for my therapy after this💔

‼️YOU HAVE REACHED THE SPOILERS SECTION OF THIS REVIEW, IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THIS BOOK AND PLAN ON IT, STOP READING NOW‼️

the one quote that has been non-stop running through my head…

“howard, tell scarlett i love her”

i absolutely broke when i read that. like, i knew it was coming, obviously, but why isn’t there a way to erase words like that from books?? save me my heart please. 😭

also, constance?? scarlett?? what?? like my jaw was on the ground, tears pouring out of my eyes. i didn’t know what to feel. i still don’t. like the fact that georgia and scarlett never actually met is just… what.

i’m just going to imagine that the happy ending noah wrote is the real ending. i know scarlett and jameson were reunited after scarlett died so they were never really apart for that long but nope. they lived a happily ever after where they both lived. noah wrote the real ending. end of story.

The Things We Leave Unfinished is a true timeless masterpiece. A book that will resonate in your soul and be long remembered.

I am a fan of the author and like knowing that she lives in Colorado and half of the story takes place there and is so beautifully described. She is also knowledgeable about military life making the book all the more real to me. I can't imagine living through a war, and felt on every page as if I was there.

The author varies the chapters with the past and the present and this book is two love stories in one with so many layers. So many emotions. I laughed and cried, and literally talked my friend's ear off for over an hour trying to process my feelings. It was nothing short of amazing.

The past is set during WWII in England where Georgia meets and falls in love with an American fighter pilot, Jameson Stanton. I love her spirit, how protective she is of her younger sister, Constance, how she stands up for herself with her selfish aristocrat parents and won't yield to their wishes, how hard she works for the war effort along with her sister and how close they are and are both unpretentious, and how fiercely and unconditionally she loves Jameson.

Jameson is so deserving of the title hero. He came from Colorado to join the Royal Air Force with the hope of keeping the war from America. He was knocked off his feet when he first met Scarlett, and despite the obstacles of being together, their love and passion was felt to their very core. The way the author describes their relationship will make you a true believer. There are so many details and she poignantly tells of what life was like for those living in an active war zone and the sacrifices one must make. All the fears and how hopeful the human spirit is, and what one has to do just survive and protect the ones you love.

Scarlett and Jameson do marry and she longed to be a novelist. She begins to write their love story to pass down to their son, William, but left it unfinished. Once in Colorado she became a successful romance writer and after her death, her great granddaughter, Georgia Stanton, is named benefactor, instead of Georgia's mother, Ava.

She inherits her manuscripts, home, foundation, and at the urging of her mother, decides to work with a novelist to finish the book. In walks our second hero, Noah Harrison, and I could love him more. He is hired to finish the book and their relationship is filled with witty dialogue and sexual tension, and he does all he can to gain her trust. Noah and Georgia embark on a journey that will change the course of both of their lives forever, and it goes to show you that one person can make a difference.

I love the slow burn of how smitten Noah was with Georgia, and how he quickly came to understand her walls, and knew exactly what she needed. I loved how patient and insightful he was, and the clever and thoughtful ways he gained her trust. Georgia is complicated, strong willed, and protective of her heart, but oh so very good and deserving of love.

I admired Georgia in every way possible. Even though she was betrayed by two people who were supposed to love her the most, she held her head high. She was independent, strong, and brave. She had tremendous character growth and I think I cried the hardest at the end because I wanted so much for her to feel treasured and true contentment. I loved how she pursued her creative passion as well, and how she could admit when she was wrong. Loved her friend, Hazel, too, and how she encouraged her as well.

Scarlett's words were so wise and gentle, and I loved what a positive force she was in Georgia's life, even after her death. I truly was captivated by every word in this book and not one of my questions went unanswered.

I must say though, I was completely blindsided by a twist at the end. It takes a lot to surprise me! When a child, I got up at 4 am to sneak peaks at my Christmas gifts and tricked my friends into telling me when my bridal shower was. I read so often and can generally figure out a book pretty fast, but was truly in shock when I got to the part I can't tell you about in a review! Just know this book is on an entirely different level, every word has purpose, and the author deserves all the stars in the sky in my opinion.

The Things We Leave Unfinished is a perfect title and applies to more than just the manuscript. It's inspirational and filled with hope. It's about trust, acceptance, the healing power of forgiveness, and second chances. I loved it and highly, highly recommend.

Picked back up 7/21! It took me about 2 months to finish this (granted I had to wait for my Libby hold to come back) but I did end up appreciating this book. When I said 6/7 that I thought I knew what was going to happen... Fool! I DID NOT see that plot twist coming, and it makes the story so much more heartbreaking. I think Georgia and Noah need to communicate with each other better, as I felt frustrated as a reader seeing them act the way they do as grown ups. But through the writing, you can see how much they love each other and their motivations behind the questionable actions. The love story of Scarlett and James was honestly so beautiful and heart wrenching, their story (VS the present-day timeline) was definitely the highlight of this novel.

6/7/23: ehhh dnf@41%, I’m simply bored. The writing isn’t bad but I just feel like I already know exactly what’s going to happen in both timelines! Maybe I will pick this up again one day
