Now she's back, and she knows all the secrets I've tried to keep hidden.
She's no longer running.
Instead, she's claiming me as hers, the way she's always been mine.
But I can't give my heart to her and my body to others...
Can I?

The Lies That Shatter is an interconnected novel in this author’s Beautifully Brutal Series and features Finn and McKenna. Finn is perhaps one of the most intriguing heroes of the series. I found that this role in the Doughty family as a honey trapper was absolutely fascinating. He has mastered the art of manipulation and lies that many people are not able to see through. The intensity of his feelings for and protective nature towards McKenna chisels away at his perfectly honed mask.
As for McKenna, she is the prefect match for Finn. She was hurt by him in the past and yet the embers of her love for him run deep. She is a strong heroine with flaws, which make her an easy character to identify with. As McKenna becomes reintegrated in his life and with the risks that come with loving a member of the Doughty clan, is a second chance possible?
When it comes to villains in a novel, this series has a character that I positively loathe. I am not sure I have ever met a more heinous villain and it is interesting to see just his downfall will eventually play out. It was thrilling to get reacquainted with the characters from the earlier books. They all have a role to play and I enjoyed getting caught up with them.
With this author’s artful storytelling, there is excellent progression of the overarching storyline that is present throughout each book in the series without overshadowing the romantic aspect of Finn and McKenna’s relationship. There were a few twists that I was able to deduce, but how they were revealed was well executed. Then there were, however, a few twists and turns that caught me by surprise. There are a few loose ends concerning the underlying story that will be tied up in the next book - Ethan’s book!
I can not wait for the last book as the cliffhanger was a doozy! I love this story and they love the fight to get back too. This is the 5th of the series!
This book grabs you and hold your attention throughout. At times you didn't know if you wanted to continue reading, but you just had to know what was gonna happen. You knew it couldn't end on a bad note. Finn and McKenna Are the main characters of this book. The author made them so real and so believable. You could imagine them being your friend's neighbors family even. I do highly recommend knowing the triggers before you read this book.
The twists, the spice, the action all kept me engrossed into Finn and McKenna’s story. Absolutely amazing read.
Finn was trained at an early age to become the ultimate manipulator and womanized—Always knowing just what people need to hear or see, and can lie like the best of them. Even if it meant breaking his best friend’s, and love of his life’s, heart by taking on his role in the Doughty family. However that all changes when Max suddenly finds her way back into his life, and on a mission to finally claim what’s hers. With one last job lined up, can they finish it and finally have the happiness they’ve always craved?
Full of angst, emotions and of course lots of heat this is a definite must read for any mafia dark romance loving girl! Just remember to be sure to check the triggers before diving in and buckle up because this one is quite the ride—and that deciduous cliffhanger of an ending?!?! I need more stat!!!!
McKenna is bounced around from foster home to foster home. Never feeling quite like she belongs anywhere or is cared about. Her friendship with Finn Doughty means everything to her, so when he pushes her away after she confesses her feelings to him, she's devastated. It will take years before these two can figure out their feelings and come to terms with how they both feel.
I loved this story of Finn and McKenna. Their story is a love that can't be distinguished by Finn's family responsibilities or the distance between these two. McKenna knows that it's their time and she will not be deterred from showing Finn that they belong together. This is a dark and twisted story, but so worth the read. I love the characters in this series and the fact that we get to have them in each book in the series is great. I can't wait for Ethan's story. It looks to be another great addition to the Beautifully Brutal Series.

🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5.
It took me awhile to get to this and I regret not reading it right away.
This was such a good story of pining from Finn even though he does what he does and I'll get to it but also pining from Mac. It's a second chance because when Mac made a move years ago, Finn chose family and not her. It's a beautiful story of two people that knew who their other half were and this time around, they would claim one another no matter what.
At first I was a bit concerned with what Finn's job is and what that would mean for his future with Mac but Emma wrote it in a way that left me with no doubts where Finn's heart and mind were and that made it so much easier whenever he was doing his job. The way Emma wrote his pov was a saving grace for me otherwise this review would've gone very differently.
We also got one flashback, if I'm not mistaken, which I actually appreciated a lot. I needed the reminder of what and how Finn & Mac were and what made them go their separate ways years ago. Also Liam is such a good brother! 🥰
Finn is doing his final job for the family because he just can't take it anymore and he wants love and Mac.
Meanwhile Mac decided she had enough and she came back to claim Finn's once and for all so long story short, Evan (Finn's brother) gives Mac a job in order to help Finn finishing his task and then they can finally have their hea so she started working as a nurse for an old man who is Finn's target's father.
Mac working in the same house as Finn's target is dangerous both for her and for Finn because whenever he sees her, he can't keep his mask on and do his job and Mac just can't keep her reactions in check and lets something slip.
I loved Finn. Despite his job, he can't help but try to see the best in people and he would do anything for his family and Mac.
I loved Mac and how despite her childhood and what she went through, she still chose to help and care for others.
Both of them together felt like each other's missing pieces and I loved them. They had a deep friendship before and all these years didn't change a thing so they already had a good foundation for a relationship. Things just exploded between them and they were all in.
The way Finn took care of Mac's needs but also Mac's mouth during those sexy time was amazing.
I must talk about the heavy as F chapters towards the end where basically s*** hit the fan and Mac was in peril. It was so hard reading it but I liked what happened afterwards. While Mac was drowned in self hatred, depression and self doubt, Finn was there every thing time. He didn't waver for one second. i loved how Kellan somehow got through to her and she finally realized that she could and should be honest with Finn and that to get better she needed to be home and her home was Finn all along.
The part where she exposed herself to him was beautiful. I loved how Finn reacted to it and how he made it better by just being there and reassuring Mac that they were meant to be and nothing or no one would break them. I loved that moment so much. Despite everything, it definitely was a highlight for me because it just showed that while Finn was attracted to her, he fell in love with her soul and heart and not her body.
Mia's mother is a disgrace to mother's out there. She is trash y'all. I can't tell you how happy I was when she finally met her end.
Mia's father is like a piece of s*** in the bottom of your shoe because he just ruins the mood and your day. He is the villain throughout this series and I innocently thought this would be the end for him but silly me. It wasn't.
Freya had her revenge and I was giddy!
Finn's father is such a complex character. I started this series hating him, then it was disliked. Lately I liked him quite a lot and then I started this book and remembered why I didn't liked him to begin with but like in every book, he has his moments and the deep conversations he has one on one with one of his sons or daughters just gets to me and I love the man. Emma does such a good job with him and makes sure that whatever he says, is said with emotion and a deep understanding of what's at stake.
Evan was back for the ending and I'm so very intrigued by him. He is a copy of his father when he was the boss of the family so he is a basically a robot with no feeling but just hearing Teagan's name breaks his facade. I have faith in Evan and I feel like he would be the one to end the villain's reign but we'll see. I'll be happy with whoever makes him gone for good.
Emma wove so many strings throughout the series and I'm very excited to read the final book and see how everything wraps up.
Favorite book so far in the series!
Despite being hurt by Finn in the past, McKenna has deep rooted feelings for him. She is a character who is strong and has its flaws.
When she comes into Finn's life and all that it contains again, is a chance for them even possible.
There were cameos from the characters from the previous books, there are also characters you wish that weren't there.
The story has twists and turns. Some you might have seen coming, and others definitely not.
We have a few things that will come to a conclusion in the next book, but these two got their happy end and that was all that matters. For now.
