The Boys of Clermont Bay #4

The Deceit of a Devil

Rate this book
Sinless. Stunning. Damaged. Tempting. Allie Taylor had been the girl I hated for as long as I could remember.

And now she loathed me just as much.

It didn’t matter that I betrayed her to save her.

Completely devastated and infuriated by my dishonesty, she had no intentions of ever trusting me again.

Her trust was shattered, her hate raging on with each second. She would never look at me the same again.

Our past was full of pain and lies that could never be forgotten.

I knew what I did was irreparable, but I refused to let her walk away without another chance.

I should have left things in the past.

I didn’t.
I couldn’t.
I won’t.

I needed her. Even if it cost me everything.

📚'THE DECEIT OF A DEVIL' 📚 Is the fourth full length romance book in Holly Renee's 'The Boys of Clermont Bay' series. It picks up where the third book left off. Spoken in 'Dual perspectives with a HEA.'

It all started with a bet...

'𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧
𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐞. 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐧 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐮𝐬.
𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬.'

I knew this one would play havoc on my feelings resulting in destroying my heart in the process before I'd even started, and I was right when it came to their too & fro these two went through, stemming from the ultimate betrayal as it gurgled in the background of their destroyed long standing friendship.

After the way things between these two were left off in the previous book I couldn't wait to get my hands on this, these two had a long rocky road ahead of them.

'𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐮𝐲 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫.
𝐇𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫'

They were still having to do their community service forcing them together which wrung so many angsty feels out of me, an even emotional read than the previous book, tears of sadness ran down my face freely as I struggled to get through a part of the book where my heart plummeted as Carson's world came crashing down in an unexpected roller coaster of emotion.

The only thing is towards the end I felt it a wee bit rushed with a few things still not resolved hence the 4 star rating.

I liked this well enough, but also found it a bit too similar to the first couple's duet. I enjoyed it, though the ending felt a touch anticlimactic. Still, a fun read with plenty of angst and drama.

The Deceit of a Devil is second chance romance perfection! Carson and Allie's story is an epic and surprisingly emotional finale, one rife with wrenching heartache, delicious drama, and so much teenage angst. It's an addictively consuming story from start to finish- but most importantly, it's also a sweetly satisfying one. Carson and Allie own my heart completely, and Holly Renee gives them an ending more than worthy of this lovable couple.

After that heartbreaking cliffhanger in Taste of the Enemy, we knew repairing the shattered relationship between them would be hard. AND HARD IT WAS. If you thought the chemistry was intense in book one, hang on, dear readers! Holly Renee dials up the emotion in their finale, and I felt EVERY word. The heartbreak, the longing, the indecision, the tenderness, the weight of past mistakes, the unbreakable connection between them, it makes for such a heady and addictive push and pull between these two. The angst is so thick you can breathe it. Two steps forward, one step back. These two are so desperate to get on the same page, to finally unpack all their emotions, but trust has been broken between them- in the past and the preset, and that’s a lot to work through. Carson has a lot to make up for while working through his own unaddressed baggage, and Aliie has had her heart trampled repeatedly by the boy who claims to love her. It should be easy to work though all that complexity- and Holly ensures that it isn’t. Allie’s head is at odds with her heart, and Carson is recognizing his past transgressions are making it harder for him to earn forgiveness for his present ones- he has to figure out how to make Allie trust him, how to be a better version of himself. The nuances and layers of their conflict just make for so much juicy drama- and it makes it hard for them to really understand their own feelings because they are immersed in the mess they’ve made, but it also makes for some really powerful moments of vulnerability and emotional catharsis. And, of course, SO MUCH DELICIOUS GROVELLING. Carson grovels like the king he is, and he more than earns Allie’s forgiveness, and mine.

While I expected some emotional turmoil and drama, there are parts of this story that I was not expecting- and that moved me deeply. I won’t spoil you- but Holly brings this story full circle in a really beautiful, at times heartbreaking way . Not only does this give Carson and Allie a chance to rewrite their story, but it also lets us see the character growth they’ve had in this journey. We see Allie find her voice, her confidence, and we see her fight her FIGHT. Long ago she didn’t fight for herself, now she does. And Carson, we see him face his demons- and accept his culpability in letting them consume him and hurt others. I thought we’d already seen the depths of these character in book one, but I was wrong. Carson is broken in ways we hadn’t yet discovered - and my heart truly broke for him in places as we experienced the depths of his hurt and pain. He’s a tragically lonely character despite having so much going for him- something he shares with Allie. While we discover the true heart of Carson, we see Allie coming into her own. That includes embracing her strength, but it also includes her embracing what has always made her so lovable- her empathy. There are some really powerful and emotionally intimate moments between them, and Holly really shows off her chops when it comes to deeply emotive storytelling. Truth be told, I’ve never felt for any Holly character as intensely as I felt the moment between them in this story- the highs and the lows.

But we also have fun and playful moments in this story, as Holly also makes brilliant use of the secondary cast. This ragtag unexpected group of friends now feels like a cohesive and functional chosen family. And Holly brilliantly uses these moments not only to advance Carson and Allie’s story but to show us the overarching growth of all these characters. Seeing Beck advise Carson with his evolving emotional maturity, Josie exercise her strength by standing up for Allie and helping her stand up for herself, and seeing them all perplexed by Olly and Frankie's dynamic. While Olly is only a supporting character in this story, he has a few key moments where he shows up in a big way, and is already proving his leading man status and that he’s the right heart for our beloved Frankie. Holly teases us with the heartache we can expect already- and I’m already desperately in love with them. But I have a feeling their story will hurt my heart the most- but perhaps also touch it the most.

Every book makes me fall more and more in love with this series. The epicness of first love, the enticing teenage drama, all that young love angst, and complicated characters who are figuring out who they are, and who they want to be- all while falling into each other. Carson and Allie have claimed the top spot as my favorite Holly Renee couple with their heartwarming second chance charm. Olly and Frankie are coming next, and I’m ready to be destroyed by them.

I knew these two would be one of my favorite couples, and I was right. Their romance was the perfect blend of angst and swoon-worthy romance.

Book 2 in this standalone series of duets is always the grovel portion of the story, and Carson did it right. He struggles though with his trauma from his mom and dad and their relationship, which heavily impacts him in this story. Holly Renee presented his trauma in an authentic way. The ending resolution as a result of their trauma was a bit rushed for me, but I enjoyed how it was resolved overall.

Allie is one of my favorite types of heroines. She has strength, but it is subtle. She faces down Carson, vocalizes her fears, and fights for him when he is drowning. I really loved her character.

As a couple, Allie and Carson have this softness to them, their love seems bone deep. It isn't this loud and in your face romance, but it reads as lasting and consuming. The steam in this book is very much reflective of that. These two, once they start, never stop. They devour each other at every opportunity, and each moment felt electric.

The plot of this story is very much character driven, watching Allie and Carson find their way back to each other, and their romance was enough to hold my attention. Between their relationship, the her friendship with Frankie and Josie, his friendship with Beck and Olly, and the secondary conflicts, I was engaged from beginning to end.

This has been my favorite duet so far in this world, but I truly love the whole group of friends and their romances. I will be eagerly awaiting Frankie and Olly' duet.

***Note: There is one particular plot point that I struggled with, the birth control aspect. It is never brought up or mentioned, and there is a particular scene that the lack of birth control had a huge impact on this couple, and it was never discussed or mentioned after that scene, even though the heroine was upset by it.

“What we were was exactly what he had made us. Enemies.”

Here we are with the last part of Carson and Allie’s story.

I don’t even know what to say.

I’m still riding this never-ending rollercoaster of emotions.

“He didn’t deserve me, but I would give another piece of myself to him regardless. I had no choice”

Allie is ready to move on, and leave Carson behind . She’s hurt, angry and so broken . Carson really played a number on her.

Carson has become this lost soul, who just realized what he had lost only after not having it anymore. Allie changed him, for the better. And now is his time to fight for what he want. He’s not gonna give up until she realized they can work this out .

“I was starved for anything and everything she would give me.”

Their journey wasn’t easy, it was filled with pretty emotional and filled with angst moments but also some pretty hot moments that will blow your mind.

The chemistry between the two was off the charts. I couldn’t put it down for a second, I think I finished it in less than 3 hours. That’s how much I was obsessed with it.

“She cocked her head , and I could feel myself falling head over heels for this girl as she grinned at me”

Also we finally got a glimpse of Ollie and Frankie’s story. I just can’t wait for their book!

I gave it 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ahhh! I have been looking forward to the conclusion to Allie and Carson's story so much!! I loved the fiery chemistry between them and how connected they were to one another. Carson was a pure alpha male and everything I love in my heroes. He loved Allie and would stop at nothing to show her how he felt after that crazy cliffy in the first book. This story was passionate, intense and so addicting!

Wow! I loved being in Carson's head and seeing how devoted he was to Allie after the way book one ended! That boy could give some serious grovel! Allie, likewise, was sassy and assertive and needed Carson to prove himself to her. Overall, I loved the story but would be remiss if I did not add that the constant back and forth between them was a bit repetitive. The two steps forward, four steps back cycle felt like it was on a loop at times. Overall, however, this story was a solid read. It was addicting, compelling and an awesome follow up to book one. I can't wait for Frankie and Ollie's book. Hopefully, she gives that boy a taste of what he's missing and then some! 4 stars! ~Ratula

To just say the least, the end of Book 1 was very heartbreaking, Allie had her heart broken again by the same guy she had ever get closed to and Carson was drowning in his own regrets, just wishing to turn the time back to get his chance with Allie again. And that's what he accomplished in book 2...I am Still swooning over my man Carson...his character growth from where he was at the beginning is awe-inspiring, such a sweetheart.

Allie was the heroine I instantly got attached to like in Beck and Josie's book, and when Carson and her connection was revealed I couldn't have been more happy about it. Though their past is defected by lies and secrets, they still at heart are best friends to each other, like you can instantly feel the powerful connection between them whenever they entered the page.

Love the story line, as always the words by Author Renee pulled me in the story...refusing to let my focus go anywhere but my to favorite people and their HEA.

OUT NOW!!!

"Wanting him had been my downfall for far too long..."

The first book blew my mind with its antsy feelings and the second one was equal amazing...
After Carson's betrayal, everything changed about these two... and I was waiting like crazy to see where the author will lead us...
Allie and Carson were bound together from childhood, but are their feelings strong enough to survive the cruel reality???

"Everything I thought I had become with Carson was nothing but a lie. It was nothing but a damn game.
What we were was exactly what he made us.
Enemies."

Everything started with a silly bet which was done for the wrong reasons, but with right intentions...
And after the truth blew up on Carson's face, Allie is determined to not let him play anymore with her already fragile and broken heart...
But Carson is not the same guy that he used to be and in order to survive, he needs Allie by his side and he is determined to get her, even when she is being stubborn and she is refusing to give him another chance...

"Now I was the one who needed her, and she didn't need or want a single thing from me."

What else can I say about this story???
It was another one beautiful addition in the series and I liked how things progressed between our two main heroes...
If you think that the push and pull between these two is over into this part, you're just fooling yourselves...
Even though Allie and Carson had a difficult road ahead of them, they never gave up fighting, especially Carson, and when tragedy struck, Allie became the strong woman that she was always meant to be....

"It had always been more for us. Always.
I just had to make her remember why that more was worth it."

This couple was amazing and honestly, I can not wait for Ollie and Frankie's story...
I have this feeling that they will have a lot to deal with and I'm anticipating their turn so badly!!!

"Please just let me love you."

The Deceit of a Devil is the second part to Carson and Allie’s story and I was very excited to read it!

With the way the previous book ended I was intrigued as to how Carson and Allie’s relationship will develop and how strong their emotions will become for each other in order to keep fighting. I really liked the second chance aspect of this story because of the way Carson’s character ends up developing. He’s learned to confront his feelings for Allie and actually make them known. With Allie I’ve loved her since the very beginning. She’s the sweetest but also has a fierce side to her. I love how even in the moments that had her feeling down, she was still there for the people she cares about.

Overall I enjoyed this book and how the characters developed along the way. Carson and Allie’s relationship does have a lot of up and downs, sometimes a lot of downs that breaks them but they always find a way back to each other and keep getting stronger.

After the ending of book one and how things were left I was dying for the conclusion to Carson and Allie's story and Holly did not disappoint me in any way. There was grovelling, lust, steam and unexpected moments that I didn’t see coming.

Allie was left feeling ashamed and humiliated at Carson’s betrayal, losing all trust in him. Carson was remorseful for what he had done and vowed to make things right. He knew he would have to be extra to prove himself and to win her heart.

If I hadn’t fallen in love with Carson in book one, this book cemented my love for him even more. He’s alpha, possessive, goes after what he wants regardless of the consequences and brings all the heat and steam with the flick of his tongue! Although he is a broken hero and that comes out more in this book and made me ache for him with the front he put on.

Allie, I felt her hurt and I was glad she pushed him back after he hurts her. I liked her strength but just like Allie, I wouldn’t have been able to ignore him for long in the way he made her feel when he was around.

The last part of the book had scenes that broke my heart but as the book wrapped up I felt this was rushed over and thought there could have been so much more about this.

I just love this world and these characters. The stories are engaging and addictive and you will find this one hard to put down. Carson and Allie together were everything, I loved their chemistry and how they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Another must read in the series!

This book gives us little snippets of what may become for Olly and Frankie and I’m desperate for this story!

This is part 2 of my Carson and Allie duet review that left me utterly breathless, shaking, on top of the world at times, wanting to sob in my pillow other times... I cannot fathom that there are actual PEOPLE out there that can write up stories like this and make me FEEL like this. Carson and Allie were a dream that I wish were real. I just wanted to HUG them. Right off the bat opening up this book, I could feel everything from the first book. I FELT for Allie and I didnt stop. How many times can one heart break? Literally every time hers did mine did too! But it wasn't all heart break. Carson fought SO hard in this book to get her back and the character growth in this book from him was what made me the happiest.
The sex....OMG THE SEX WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! And what better way to end it...With some good ol sex LOL I loved this duet SO much and cannot wait for the next!!!

Eh...I really think that with some solid editing, books 3 & 4 could have been trimmed down and combined into one novel.

It felt like a replica of the first duet, and it’s a bummer because this has the potential to be its own thing. Honestly, the entire Eli/bet plot could have been dropped (especially since Eli’s scenes in this book come out of nowhere and don’t add value), and instead, Carson’s family stuff could have been the big issue.

The scene/moment between Allie & Carson’s mom was great. For all the angst at his dad, it would have been great to see the family dynamic explored and have that be the reason why there is conflict.

Also, and I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but the sex scenes could have been cut down. Towards the end, they were formulaic and repetitive.

Definitely enjoyed this second chance romance! Carson was a great reformed bad boy and Allie could not resist his charm (I don't think I would have been able to either). We pick up right where we left off in the last book with Carson trying to win her over after betraying her trust. The steaminess was definitely high in this one and I was here for it! These two just belonged together after all the miscommunication that had kept them apart. Also loved all the supporting characters and connections to the previous books! Definitely a quick and fun high school romance duet! I need Olly and Frankie's story ASAP!

Like The Fall of a God, I immediately had to pick up The Deceit of a Devil after the cliffhanger in The Taste of an Enemy.

This book picks up where the last left off, and is a solid conclusion to the relationship between Carson and Allie.

What I enjoyed:
👉 Swoon-worthy quotes
👉 Teenage angst galore
👉 Chemistry between Carson and Allie
👉 Playful moments
👉 Friendship between Allie, Josie, and Frankie

Where things could have been better / what other readers may struggle with:
👉 Felt there was a bit of a loose end with the house they were fixing up
👉 Ending was slightly anti-climactic
👉 Lack of content warnings — mentions of OD / parent d3@th

Epilogue had me picking up book 4 ASAP!

A true second-chance romance!
The book carries on from where book 1 ended... with Allie heart-broken and Carson devastated and regretful for what he had done. There is a lot of push-and-pull and heartbreak, but with this book, we see a Carson growing up as a character, taking responsibility for his actions and truly showing with actions how much he cares for Allie.
A great conclusion to their story. These two people were rewarded for the pain they felt from being apart all these years with a very loving HEA.

What i would have loved to see more were certain plot "holes" that were left unaddressed... The storylines with the community service, with Eli, and on grieving/mourning and moving on with life, were topics that i feel were not adequately addressed, leaving me to wonder what happened with those matters?

omg I wanted this story so badly, and definitely the wait was totally worth it. Carson and Allie are everything.

I loved the electrifying chemistry between them, their scenes so loaded with delicious sexual tension. I loved the way Carson shows Allie that he loves her, after how the first book finished he definitely needed to grovel.

This book is an intense and passionate second-chance romance, filled with angst, emotion, and feelings. Definitely a #mustread!

When I tell you I was dying for this book after book ones cliffhanger, and this delivered beautifully. I really loved the progression of both characters in this and their relationship together. They had buckets of chemistry. There were some twists I didn't see coming and some very sad moments but I liked how we saw both of them overcome that obstacle they had as kids and what caused them to stop being friends. It was much needed for their further and im glad that they both acknowledged that they both misunderstood and had a part in it. I liked how Allie didn't forgive Carson over the bet straight away and we saw Carson grovel. I think it really showed growth in both characters. I am so so excited for the next installment and cannot wait to see what Frankie and Ollies story has In store!

“I will wreck the whole damn world to protect you.”

Holly Renee keeps wowing with her words, weaving an addictive world of romance, revenge, and redemption in the Boys of Clermont Bay, a stunning series that slays! Centered around a crew of close-knit teens, you’ll fall hard for the all alpha heroes and the heroines that bring them to their knees. From the very first page, I was a goner, utterly addicted to The Deceit of a Devil. Wholeheartedly consumed and thoroughly ravaged by this romance. There is so much intrigue and angst, complexity, and moving parts, and I loved watching this hero and heroine battle every bit, growing stronger as one in this spectacular and stunning story.

The broken bad boy and all alpha with a huge heart, Carson, finally gets his story, and oh what an emotional thriller it is! Carson has so many layers and I wanted to peel back each one and revel in the complexity of this hero that owned every part of me. A hero who finally is reunited with the girl who’s always rocked his world, but a girl he’s put through hell. Allie is the epitome of stunning and strength, and I loved her bravery in this book. Carson and Allie are the perfect yin and yang who are so beautifully balanced together. I loved these characters, their development, their deep connection and their devotion— despite all of the animosity; I couldn’t love Carson and Allie enough!

The Deceit of a Devil is a heart-racing roller coaster of delicious drama, twists and turns, meaningful moments and an intense connection that will make your emotions fly as you fall in love with this hero and heroine and their spellbinding love story. My heart beat and bled for this beautifully broken book. OMG ... the angst ... the hate ... the history ... the heat ... the heart … and the feels … so many feels! This sexy, soul-scorching, heart-clenching, knock you in the feels romance of soulmates and second chances is pure perfection. A must-read love story that forever marks the heart!

Review: This is book 2 in the duet about Allie and Carson, but book 4 in The Boys of Clermont Bay series. You must have read book 1 of the duet, The Taste of an Enemy, in order to read this book. It picks up right where the cliffhanger leaves off. I couldn't wait to get the conclusion to Allie and Carson's story. Holly definitely put my heart through the wringer. My emotions were all over, but I struggled to put the book down!
.
In book 1 we learn what caused the hurt feelings and the history Allie and Carson share. We see how much they love each other and how good they can be together. Then ultimately what tears them apart again. This book covers Allie and Carson making their way back to each other. Allie's heart is broken all over again. These two struggle to stay away from each other though and their chemistry is🥵🔥! Carson is such a dirty talker. My phone was burning up!😏 I loved that Allie was weak for Carson because she has loved him for so long, but strong when she needed to be. Carson would stop at nothing to make Allie his again. Allie made him work for it and I am glad that she did. Groveling is my favorite and there was plenty of it. Carson is broken in ways we didn't know or see coming and his grief is so genuine and real. I love that Allie stood by Carson and decided to fight when it was necessary. These two were so perfect for each other and I am so glad they got their HEA. I loved getting more of Beck, Josie, Olly and Frankie. I am dying to get my hands on Frankie and Olly's duet which will be out in January!😍 I have a feeling it will be my favorite! This book starts where we left off in the last book. Allie has learned the truth and Carson is no longer in denial about his feelings for Allie.

I've really enjoyed this story because I think this couple fits well together. They match. I'm not going to lie though, this book gave me some "After" and "After We Fell" movie vibes. Not sure if you watched those movies?

I think it's because the way these two couldn't shake each other. The chemistry and addiction between these two were overwhelming. Like if this ever happened to me, I would need to take weeks or a month before I could stand to see the guy. But not Allie and Carson. Some of it wasn't Allie's fault but I still would be in a "Do Not Engage" mode.

I like how Allie grew in a way, I think she has more growing but I like how she really evaluated her feelings. I love Carson and his conviction. It's really sweet that he is so sure about his feelings when it comes to Allie. Eli is another story...I'm not sure I've ever disliked a character as much as I dislike Eli. He's on the Top 5 of characters that need to be taught a lesson. Gosh, the things that came out of his mouth....

Carson had to address not only is past but take a hard look at who we wants to be for himself and for Allie. Dealing with the past is never something an easy thing to do. Plus, he had Allie with him which I think sometimes makes it harder because someone is seeing parts of yourself that are healing.

I'll read more and hope this author decides to write more about this group of friends. They are enjoyable and they are supportive which is always nice to have. I'm hoping for more! And if there is, I will be first in line!

I could not wait for Carson and Allie’s forever and the conclusion to this second chance, enemies-to-lovers, romance duet exceeded my expectations. Carson and Allie will find their way. He’ll have to earn her forgiveness and her trust. She’ll have to show him that pushing her away is no longer an option. Body and soul, their love consumes. These two are straight up fire!

I just loved Carson. A bit broken and beaten down with family issues, this boy lashes out. Destructive behavior is his m.o. until Allie becomes his solace. The only problem is, while he was figuring out his feelings, his epic screw up finally pushed her away.

Allie knows he’s a temptation she can’t resist. He broke her heart not once, but twice. Too bad she’s a fool for him anyway, but he doesn’t need to know that. She’s not ready to just forgive him. For the first time in his life, Carson will have to earn her forgiveness and she won’t make it easy.

Swoon, heartache, intense passion will force you to read is one sitting. I loved this couple as well as their evolution. Carson finally makes his peace with his pain and lets love in. It’s a beautiful transformation. When that boy finally allowed himself to fall, he fell hard.

So many poignant moments and heated exchanges that added both depth and passion to their love story. I absolutely enjoyed every minute.

3.75⭐️ 3🌶

There wasn’t anything wrong with book but there wasn’t anything profound either. But what there was a lot of, was spice. Like every other chapter.😏🔥 Carson is next level.

As I mentioned in my review of the first book, I was just never connected to these 2 as I was with Beck and Josie. I think if you do feel it, this is a 5 star read because there is plenty of emotion here. But personally, Allie’s “I want you but won’t let you get close to hurt me again” and Carson’s “I want you but I’m not good enough for you” back and forth just fell flat for me for most of the book.

However, I did start to warm up to them and actually felt for them, at the point where they went on their boardwalk date; the tattoo scene was very sweet. And then how maturely Allie handled Carson after his traumatic event and his response too, both good and bad, were genuine. Unfortunately this happened too late in the story to really change my overall rating much (but it did bump up half a⭐️)

I’m not sorry I spent the time to read this duet and I’m for sure going to read about Frankie and Olly, (although I fear that is going to be emotionally destroyed). The writing was very good and as long as a story has that going for it, and isn’t cringy or juvenile, I’m ok with reading it, even if its not going on my favorites shelf. ❤️

"You'll regret me....."I haven't regretted you yet."- The Taste of an Enemy (Book 3 in the Clermont Bay Series) By Holly Renee

"She was the most alluring dream and a bewitching nightmare. She was everything I had ever wanted and the one thing I couldn't endure."- The Deceit of a Devil (Book 4 in the Clermont Bay Series) By Holly Renee

Yesssss it was so good to be back in this world. Give me all the angst and all the drama. This was Carson and Allies' story. They were hot!!! 🔥

They went from best friends to enemies, to lovers, to enemies to lovers lol. These two take you on a roller coaster, but I was here for it. They are both super duper stubborn, too. But when they fought and made up 👀 whewwww fireworks!

They have a long history. He has hurt her and pushed her away so many times for so long. Even though he has hurt her, he will be damned if anyone else will touch her. He will literally push anyone out of the way to keep her safe. The push and shove between these two is insane. But they are everything together. I very much enjoyed their journey and can't wait for the last two books in the series! #hollyrenee #boysofclermontbay #thetasteofanenemy #thedeceitofadevil #allieandcarson #friendstoenemiestolovers #booksandchatswithnickib #romance
