Publisher's summary

A new standalone hockey romance from USA Today best seller Sarina Bowen.

On the eve of her 30th birthday, sports agent Bess Beringer is ready to make some changes. Armed with a five-year plan - indexed and color coded - she’ll tackle her personal life with the same zeal that she brings to her successful agency.

A big, tall, ripped hunk of hockey player who’s just been traded to the Brooklyn Bruisers is not a part of that plan. Mark “Tank” Tankiewicz has a lot of baggage. He’s a ride-or-die loner with a bad reputation. He’s on the rebound. He’s also the sexiest thing on two legs, and for some crazy reason it’s Bess that he wants.

She knows better. But then she falls stupid in love with him anyway. And for a while it seems like maybe he’ll do the same.

Until she asks him for the one thing he can never give her...

great book

Loved this story. It was definitely couldnt put it down for me. The story was so fast pace and it never got to a "slow" part for me.

Bess and Tank’s Plan

For me this was a good 4.5 stars. I have to admit some of my reservations was having a baby in her plan. A baby is her chance to be the good she knows she’s capable of. It is just not my thing, but I still adore Bess. She took the hand she was dealt growing up and made a career for herself. In some ways that sacrificed her personal life, but in others, she had a great professional one.

When she first meets Tank, they are both young and a bit impulsive. A decade later, they still have that chemistry.

I didn’t expect Tank to be that emotionally ruined by his former marriage. Men’s feelings can be complicated and Tank was definitely that. Yet, he was all in with Bess. Exploring his feelings for her and what he went through is pretty important to convey here.

Sarina writes this book in a way that feels a little more True North than Brooklyn and I love that. It’s marred, but beautiful. What a universe she makes with these characters. (Love Zara and Dave’s appearance!)

Another great thing about this was how we have a couple that really makes a choice in being together. It’s important.

Emma Wilder is stellar. Jacob Morgan is amazing. Tim Paige’s guest spots were a fantastic touch.

Overall a wonderful audiobook. Worth the queso.

it was okay!

the story was good it was a little slow in spots but anything that Jacob Morgan narrates is so sexy and amazing makes up for anything that's missing in the story! The fact that they we're willing to help foster kids such a great premise!

Worth listening too!

I have so enjoyed all of Ms. Bowen’s books that I have listened to and this one was pretty good!

I would recommend reading David’s book first so you can meet Bess. It will make this book even better for you.

Why can’t Jacob Morgan just do all the male narration? He has to be one of my favorite narrators his voice makes this books even better! Emma Wilder is a little to breath before me but not bad.

Sure Shot

I was leery of trying this book, I enjoyed books 1 and 2 but book 3 wasn’t my cup of tea. But I am glad I listened. It took me a little bit to get into. I think because I wasn’t really buying them knowing each other. I get they had a fling 9ish years ago but it felt surface.

So now that they are both older, and have more life experience I liked that Bess and Tank talked and got things out in the open. I felt terrible for Tank and the end of his marriage. I can completely see why he didn’t want to talk about it. But I was also a little frustrated because Bess kind of had a right to know what happened. So when it all came out it was messy.

I do like how Bess understood though and I also liked that she stood up for herself. I was afraid she would just go along with it things just because she loved him.

So overall I liked the direction this book took, the ending was endearing.

The narration is fantastic as always both narrators do a great job bringing these characters to life in our ears.

Sweet and poignant

I read/listened to the rest of this series and was so excited when this audiobook was on sale. Jacob Morgan, Emma Wilder and Sarina Bowen- could it get better? And this one was so good. This is a second chance romance between Bess, a sports agent and Mark (aka Tank, a hockey player who was recently traded to the Bruisers). Nine years ago, they had a relationship but Bess had to end it because she thought it would affect her career. When Tank is traded to the Bruisers, they get a second chance but they initially agree to a no strings attached kind of relationship. Excellent chemistry, a wonderful relationship that grows and a heartbreaking history lead to both laughs, swoons and tears. I really enjoyed this book and I hope it's not the end of the Bruisers world because I love all the characters in this world.

By the way, the narration is excellent. I Love Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder and felt like they were perfectly matched to the characters and played them flawlessly.

Another great addition to the Brooklyn Bruisers

I really enjoyed this story. Jacob Morgan was fantastic as always as Tank. He always brings such life and humor to every character he performs - one of my all time favorite narrators. Emma Wilder, although she did a very good job with the female AND male voices, sometimes sounded like she was about to cry when she performed Bess, which isn't how I envisioned Bess' character. However, it wasn't enough to make me stop listening. She did an amazing job with the male voices, which is very hard for some female narrators. This couple had some unique challenges, which were different from the usual tropes, and that was refreshing and interesting. I absolutely loved revisiting the world of the Brooklyn Bruisers, seeing old friends again, and catching up on their lives too. That is one of the things I love most about Sarina Bowen's series. I would recommend this book to any fan of Sarina Bowen, the Bruisers or hockey romance.

A heartwarming second chance romance

I wanted a story for Bess since I met her in Dave & Zara’s story and Sarina exceeded all my expectation. Tank is the perfect match for Bess and I love where the story took us. Sarina’s writing is always smart, current and so full of heart and I love every second of it. Emma is perfect as Bess and Jacob as Tank. My girl crush for Emma could not get any bigger and Bess might be her best yet. She is sassy and fierce yet vulnerable at the same time. Kudos on a job well done! Truly elevates Sarina writing with such perfect casting.

Beautifully Written With All The Feels

I loved this vulnerable couple Tank and Bess and the highs and lows of their journey to their ultimate happily ever after. Sarina is an amazing author and has the gift of writing a story that I feel part of and can visualise every moment. Jacob Morgan (oh yes please) and Emma Wilder (lovely voice) bring the story to life as only truly professional narrators do. Thanks for this heartwarming experience. 💥💥💥💥💥
