Pack the Pedals. Leave the Mic and Amp.

Love your pedals but tired of hauling an amp to practice or play out? The pedal-sized Strymon Iridium gives you the tube staging, tone stack, and touch response of three iconic amplifiers, each with three corresponding cabinet choices, all in a line-level stereo output, which you can send straight to FOH — no amp required. Iridium’s Class A JFET preamp handles your guitar and stomps just like a true tube amp. Its analog front end feeds a powerful 2-stage DSP processor that carefully approximates the tube bias, harmonic breakup, cone compression, and EQ interaction of some of your favorite front ends. Whether you’re playing the blues through a chunky American 1 x 12-inch or raising the roof through a dimed British high-watt amp, the Strymon feels and handles much like your favorite stacks and combos. A preset switch gives the Iridium the functionality of a 2-channel amp for clean/dirty applications, with an additional 300 accessible via MIDI switch. Meanwhile, a front headphone jack lets you monitor yourself directly from the stage — no in-ears required.

Three essential tube amps

Strymon’s Matrix Modeling technology brings you compelling virtualizations of three iconic tube amps. Here's what’s inside:

  • Round: The Normal channel of a classic American 1 x 12-inch is the basis for the Round amp's mid-scooped, high-headroom character and gentle tube breakup. Unique to the circuit is the Iridium’s midrange control: at noon, you get all the chunk and quack of the original tone stack. At higher values, Tweed-era tones start to appear. Additional gain on the top end gives the Iridium a velvety crunch you'd never be able to coax out of the genuine article.
  • Chime: The British Invasion owes more to the TB channel of this particular 30-watt combo than any other in history. At lower gain, the Chime channel is jangly and present, with great touch dynamics and a sweet harmonic breakup. Run it hot, and you get all the gain of the dimed original and beyond, with a frequency-shaped front-end boost implemented toward the top of the gain range to saturate and tighten up those crunch tones. As with the combo, the Iridium’s Middle control acts as a Tone Cut to roll off treble just before you hit those virtual power tubes.
  • Punch: When meaty cleans and knobs-at-11 high gain are what you’re after, Iridium’s Punch amp preset is the option for you. It’s modeled after a particularly coveted British hundred-watter. Gain settings at 2:00 on the Iridium gets you that classic Plexiglas-paneled snarl and growl. Opening up the throttle moves you well into hot-rodded Van Halen territory and beyond.

Nine onboard speaker cabs

The Strymon Iridium comes stock with nine choice speaker cabinet impulse responses (IRs) from leading third-party manufacturers like OwnHammer and Celestion Digital. We at Sweetwater found these to be a great starting point for each of the onboard amps, with very little need to modify. Even so, if you’ve got a collection of custom or homemade cab IRs you’re picky about, the Iridium lets you load them in over USB using the free Strymon Impulse Manager, with support for mono/stereo files up to 500ms in 24-bit/96kHz quality. Here’s what comes onboard:

  • Round A: Deluxe Reverb 1 x 12-inch (OwnHammer) — Open-back Fender combo with a 1978 Fender CTS 12-inch ceramic speaker
  • Round B: Blues Junior 1 x 12-inch (cabIR) — Open-back Fender combo with a Jensen C12N 12-inch speaker
  • Round C: Vibrolux 2 x 10-inch (cabIR) — Open-back Fender combo with two 1965 Jensen C10NS 10-inch speakers
  • Chime A: AC30 2 x 12-inch Alnico (OwnHammer) — Open-back Vox combo with two 2001 Celestion T0530 Alnico Blue speakers
  • Chime B: 1 x 12-inch Alnico (Celestion) — Closed-back cab with a Celestion Alnico Blue 12-inch speaker
  • Chime C: Mesa 4 x 12-inch (ValhallaIR) — "Half-back" Mesa cab (open top, sealed bottom) with two Mesa/Celestion Black Shadow MC-90 12-inch speakers and two Mesa/Electro-Voice Black Shadow EVM-12L 12-inch speakers
  • Punch A: GNR 4 x 12-inch (OwnHammer) — Closed-back Marshall cab with four 1971 Celestion Greenback G12M-25 12-inch speakers
  • Punch B: 2 x 12-inch Vintage 30 (Celestion) — Open-back cab with two Celestion Vintage 30 12-inch speakers
  • Punch C: Marshall 8 x 12-inch Alnico (cabIR) — Closed-back Marshall cab with four Celestion T652 Alnico speakers

Onboard room reverb

To further sell that amp-in-a-room vibe, the Strymon Iridium gives you four mesmerizing stereo room convolution reverbs in a simple 1-knob interface. Dial up to add some space to solos or pull back for a more intimate, focused feel.

Stereo ins and outs

The Strymon Iridium supports either mono or stereo pedal setups. So whether you run a single-pedal ship or a whole fleet, or stereo Strymon chorus and reverb pedals, Iridium has the I/O to suit your setup.

Hybrid analog/digital signal path

The key to the Iridium’s amp-like response is its Class A JFET preamp circuit, which gives you familiar touch dynamics and 20dB of pure analog gain to boost and saturate your input.

ARM/SHARC coprocessing

Strymon pedals are known for their powerful SHARC processors, and in this way, the Iridium is no different. But what is unique is how it handles the heavy lifting of both an amp modeler and a 500ms stereo IR convolver. An ARM coprocessor that’s optimized for high-speed communication with the SHARC ADSP-21375 gives the Iridium the seamless response of an analog pedal, whether you're toggling between favorites or spinning knobs, along with 32-bit floating-point approximations of some beautifully modeled amps, cabs, and room reverbs.

Add and edit your own cab IRs

Loading your own stereo cab IRs into the Strymon Iridium — up to 500ms and 24-bit/96kHz resolution — is no problem using the free Impulse Manager software. Connect the Iridium’s USB jack to your computer, then drag and drop.

Expression pedal input

Plug a standard expression pedal TRS cable into the Iridium’s EXP/MIDI jack, and you can adjust volume settings (pre- or post-preamp) or morph seamlessly between knob positions.

You can also save and access full sets’ worth of favorite presets by inserting a Strymon DIN-to-TRS MIDI cable into the EXP/MIDI jack and connecting a MIDI controller. Take it from guitarists at Sweetwater: if you’re searching for meticulously modeled amp tones in a familiar pedal format, you can trust your setup to the Strymon Iridium.

Iridium + Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 + Weber 1x12 Speaker Cab = Perfect live rig!

I sold my PRS Sonzera 20 because it was very noisy! With the cost and inconvenience of tubes, I decided to get a modern amp for live play because I don't record. Here's what I have: Weber Chicago Series in a Weber large cabinet, which is actually a standard sized 1x12 cab. Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170. Strymon Iridium. I took several hours comparing this to an old Line 6 Pod XT into the same set up, and at first I was going to return the Strymon because the cleans are nearly identical if you change the knobs to get the same sounds. Where the Strymon Iridium comes alive is the natural sounding tube breakup sound that we all love. This is so much better than my old Pod XT. The Strymon Iridium sounds fantastic! Just as important to me is that it is so simple to use. Be honest, how many of us actually feel like we need to change amps all the time when playing? Hardly ever for me. Given these three amps, and the Fav switch to go from a clean Fender to either a Vox or beautiful sounding Marshall Plexi, I will never go back. This is like an amp; simply, great sounding if you're patient, and I can still use my Wampler Ego Compressor, Faux Tape Echo, and Belle Overdrive in front...just like I did with my PRS amp, but this is quite, much lighter, and honestly sounds better. I use USA G&L Legacy and ASAT with Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack pickups. Hope this helps, and please consider a Weber speaker and / or cabinet. They're the best and you actually talk to the owner when you call which is how I recommend buying from them. You can pick every detail about your speaker and the cabinet for less than you will spend with the big name manufacturers. Crazy to say, but my entire rig is made in the USA!!

Stop Lugging Gear Around

I used to be like you. Bringing my amp and cab to every live gig. Maybe also like you, I'm not good enough to sit in a studio and make money ripping licks. I play for weddings, shows, and events and have literally hurt myself carrying heavy gear week after week. With the Strymon Iridium, I no longer take my amp or cab to any live gig. Like ever. Between the 3 amp models, 9 cab options, drive knob, realistic and easy to tweak EQ parameters, independent level knob that doesn't color the tone or drive, and a favorite switch… I have all I need for any venue. Not to mention that every live sound tech or engineer loves me for the quieter stage and less setup/tear down. It's been a win for me.

The only way I play!

Listen, I get it. You love your tube amp. There's nothing like the way a tube amp hits you in the face. I've owned an electric guitar, amp, and pedalboard for 12 years now, but I always gravitated towards acoustic for the convenience. I bought the Iridium 2 years ago. These last 2 years I think I've played my electric guitar about 1000% more than the previous 10 years combined. This is me. I don't have the opportunity to crank an amp. I just want to pick up and play without being a nuisance to everyone else. I play at pretty small churches where stage volume is an issue. I have 3 kids and a wife and I often don't get to play till everyone is asleep, and then with headphones. I also don't want to plug my rig into a computer and change 100 tiny parameters or use menus, but I still want the flexibility of using 3 iconic amp types. I want to plug into something and it just works and sounds great. I want to twiddle the knobs and know what I'm doing. I've also had back problems and wanted to reduce my rig size. The Iridium hits all these features for me. Also, never knew I would love stereo effects so much until I had a simple solution to hear them. Iridium does that too.

There have been a few really cool competitors to the Iridium that have come out since I bought it. Honestly, I probably would have bought the Mako ACS1 if it was available when I got it. But I'm not trading in anytime soon for a few reasons. First off, the plexi sound over the bluesbreaker sound, especially since I pickup up a Les Paul recently. Secondly, even though this is digital, I really like that it has an analogue gain stage at the beginning of breakup.

Long story short, I love this pedal. It sounds fantastic, especially if you're recording or getting your main playback from a stage monitor or in ears, you will never know the difference. I never would have fallen fully in love with Electric guitar without this pedal.

Iridium and ES8

I'm still as impressed with this unit as I was when I rated it earlier this year, but wanted to add something I discovered yesterday that makes a huge difference in the sound of my dirt pedals. Something had been lacking in the tone I was getting out of either my Fulltone OCD or Strymon Sunset, no matter the amount of tweaking. Until last night when I was messing around and placed the Iridium and either dirt pedal in parallel in the loop structure. My goodness! The righteous tone of the OCD came back from hiatus and I finally can realize the flexibility of the Sunset - which I've liked but now absolutely love. My dirt has never sounded better.

Great Back UP amp!

For a straight up tube amp player this pedal has impressed me. I bought it because my job asked me to go work out of town for 30 days and now I'm going on 4 months . To be honest it's so hard not having my tube amp living in a hotel but having this pedal helped me get through the tough times! I loaded the David Hislop IR's which you can find here davidhislop and it sounds great! The way I use it is the Iridium into an art little tube pre amp and Wow! Almost gets close to a tube amp ! I play a Morgan AC20 so I live in the chime setting ! This will live in my gig bag if I ever run into an amp issue ! Check out the links below to hear it on my YouTube channel !
