The "NeXt" Evolution of Strandberg's Flagship Boden

When Strandberg's Boden model first hit the scene just over a decade ago, few could predict the impact these headless guitars would have on the guitar community. Fast forward to today, and the Boden is going stronger than ever, with several models and configurations to choose from to fit your playing needs. The Strandberg Boden Prog NX 6 Electric Guitar builds on the blueprint of its predecessors, with new and improved hardware, exquisite electronics, and even sustainable materials that deliver an unequivocally boutique experience. The Boden Prog NX 6's swamp ash body is joined by maple for the top and neck and Richlite for the fingerboard, familiar to the hands and ears of previous players and comfortable enough for anyone to jump right in and get to work. Two supercharged Suhr pickups shoot the Boden Prog NX 6 to the top of its class — these PAF-style humbuckers fully deliver the trademark fullness and warmth of vintage pickups. Throw in a highly expressive EGS Rev 7 Tremolo for warbles and dives along with stainless-steel frets, and the Strandberg Boden Prog NX 6 solidifies its place as one of Strandberg's highest performing Bodens to date.

Sweet-sounding tonewoods of the highest quality

Before you even plug in, strum a few chords and pick through a few licks on the Boden Prog NX 6. The resulting sound is nothing short of stellar, courtesy of high-performing tonewoods delivering the perfect combination of phenomenal organic tone, ergonomic design, and effortless playability. To achieve just that, the Boden Prog NX 6 starts with a swamp ash body topped with maple, pumping out laser-focused sounds with good sustain and resonance. Snappy maple was chosen for the neck, outfitted with carbon fiber reinforcement rods for long-lasting durability that stands up to the drastic temperature and humidity changes commonly experienced when touring. Rounding out these top-tier tonewoods is a smooth-as-glass Richlite fingerboard, guaranteed to send your fretting hand from head(less) to heel in no time.

Optimized with superb Suhr pickups

To give the Boden Prog NX 6 its distinct sound, Strandberg equipped it with a pair of highly coveted Suhr pickups. Loaded in the bridge is an SSH+, a tried-and-true high-output humbucker that's fully prepared for everything from dirt-tinged prog licks to destructive deathcore and more. The SSV humbucker's crystal clarity and smooth tone are ideal for the neck position and pair perfectly with the SSH+ — whatever sonic flavor you require, the Boden Prog NX 6's Suhr pickups are a surefire way of achieving the results you seek.

Balanced headless design

The Boden Prog NX 6's headless design removes mass from the headstock for lower weight and improved balance, so you can play marathon sets in total comfort. On the other end, Strandberg's custom bridge hardware makes an important contribution to the tone of the instrument. Made of lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum, the EGS Rev 7 Tremolo bridge's tight component coupling ensures that all the strings' vibrations are optimally transferred to the tonewoods.

EndurNeck profile and bolt-on design for comfort and playability

At first glance, Strandberg's acclaimed EndurNeck profile is sure to draw a few questions with its unique shape. Here at Sweetwater, guitarists will all tell you the same thing: the EndurNeck feels even better than it looks. The carbon fiber-reinforced neck sports a rear-shafted trapezoid shape, possessing incredible comfort and noticeable stability. Almost magically, you will feel your grip significantly relax when playing an EndurNeck, leading to longer playing times and fewer injuries. The Boden Prog NX 6's bolt-on construction, paired with a deep double-cut design, offers easy access to the upper register for increased playability and a more focused punch — a welcome feature uncommon for many other bolt-on guitars.

Multi-scale Richlite fingerboard

The fingerboard of a Strandberg is instantly recognizable for its multi-scale configuration that assigns each string a unique scale length. This allows low strings to intonate better at high tension and makes bending high strings a breeze. The Boden Prog NX 6's EndurNeck is capped by a 20-inch-radius Richlite fingerboard with a 25–25.5-inch scale length. Not to mention, its 24 jumbo frets are made from stainless steel — a player-favorite fret material for its incredible resistance to wear over time.

Strandberg Boden Prog NX 6 Electric Guitar Features:

  • The latest and greatest iteration of Strandberg's highly popular Boden model
  • Punchy swamp ash body lays a solid tonal foundation
  • Solid maple top with a gorgeous flamed maple veneer adds sonic brightness and visual elegance

The perfect electric guitar for me! Try one, and it may be the same for you!

As an experienced player, I'm always looking for the "Holy Grail" pieces of gear. Having previously owned two Boden Original Metal 7 string guitars, I wanted a six string Strandberg. When I saw the 20%-off sale, I had to pull the trigger. I'm super happy! This guitar plays better than my previous favs in my collection; my Fender USA Yngwie Strats. Two completely different beasts, but I have a new fav. The neck is a truly amazing piece of engineering, allowing for totally relaxed comfortable play the entire way. The Suhr, an amazing guitar brand in its own right, pickups are beautiful sounding. The Richlite fingerboard is so smooth, and I wanted a guitar with stainless steel frets. This guitar just makes me want to play 24/7. It also has me staying away from cliche shred displays. It makes me want to explore different techniques and sounds. My only minor complaint, as I have reviewed it before here on Sweetwater, is the strap. It isn't long enough for bigger people. I also prefer the cases that they made for the 7 string models. The 6 string case doesn't have the ability to be used on your back. Stand out from the crowd while taking your playing to new uncharted levels and places! I want to give a shout out to Mike Soper! Thanks!

More than a guitar…it’s an instrument

This review is for the Strandberg Boden Prog NX6. I have owned and own many quality levels of guitars including 3 core PRS. Throughout the past 5 years I have become increasingly debilitated with arthritis in my wrists, thumb and hands. This has caused my ability to continue to play at the same level to be painful. I bought the Strandberg with some hope it would help in this situation, but most of all because I liked many of the details of its design. I'm happily surprised that it excels in in every way. I see many people complain that these instruments are too expensive for being Indonesian made. First, the guitars coming out of Indonesia are very nice and most of all the Strandberg's have patented and unique features that you just can't get on any other guitar. This is worth the premium.

The neck is such a great design and I wish all my guitars had necks like this since I first started playing. The truth is I could go on about everything that sets Strandberg's apart, but I would go to their website or the many reviews and spend an hour or two exploring everything. The bottomline, this is one of the best sounding, playing and quality built instruments I own. I can see that it may not be for everyone, but I would think most of it would be due the inability to get past the superficial and not anything of real substance. I tell other guitarists to just play it like any guitar and not think about the differences and soon you'll be loving it. One thing I will mention is the Richlite fretboard. I was concerned about this material, but it is great and has all the qualities of a nice piece of exotic wood. Probably more stable.

I also want to thank my great Sales Engineer, Tiberius Huiu for all the help and answering all my questions. Sweetwater is the BEST!

I wanted to add to my initial review!

Having owned and played the guitar for several weeks now, I wanted to add to my initial review. I wanted to specifically address the tuning and how it affects chordal playing. I honestly have not had a guitar that compares to the Strandberg with regard to playing chords all over the fretboard. The fret layout allows for stable and consistent intonation. In the past, I could never get chords to intonate properly on the upper registers of my other electric guitars; especially for more complex chords and voicings. And, this was with pro setups. The Strandberg fingerboard layout allows for consistently tuned chords.

Soulfret

Been eyeing a few guitars even played a few at music shops over my years of searching. Non of which held these. I reasesrched this guitar for 2 years before pulling the trigger and I must say this thing is a hot rod. Not only does my Stranberg look like art, the feel of the endure neck and sound of the pickups are amazing. The multi scale fretboard with glow in the dark in lays and the sleek structure of the neck make it easier to play for longer periods of time. I love that mine came in 4.8 ounces and is just as light as my acoustic electric. It spanks it growls it feels good it looks good, it is GOOD. Best of all my daughter chose it and loves it cause it reminds her of our favorite game, she named it Link. Best guitar I've ever played or felt, and heard. Thank you Strandberg and thank you Chris at Sweetwater for getting our dream guitar in our studio
