Lush Plate Reverb with a Modern Twist
Little Plate is Soundtoys' take on classic plate reverb — with some modern twists. Introduced in 1957, the original EMT 140 plate reverb unit put electromechanical reverb on the map. By the mid-sixties, every world-class recording studio had several of the 600-pound behemoths, which graced countless iconic recordings with their gorgeous, lush sound. Inspired by this storied reverb device, Soundtoys — a company known for obsessing over legendary hardware — collected five 140s in their lab and set about capturing the smooth, dense vibe of classic plate reverb in an easy-to-use plug-in with modern features.

The modern features
While they were at it, Soundtoys hyperextended Little Plate's decay time (the original units could muster only around five seconds), so that you can create infinite reverb effects that never decay. They also added a Low Cut filter (low-end buildup was quite common with the originals), and included a nifty feature they call the Space Modulator — which adds modulation to the reverb tails and sounds very cool, imparting subtle, chaotic variations that generally thicken and smooth the sound, particularly at long decay times on pitched instruments such as guitars, keyboards, and vocals. Soundtoys has managed to distill the sonic essence of those massive vibrating metal plates of yesteryear into an affordable piece of software. At Sweetwater, we're impressed. We think you will be too.
