Product Description
The Scorpion 3 by Snugpak is stalwart three-person base camp and expedition tent when a semi-permanent camp is required. The Scorpion design is a ‘Fly-first’ pitch tent that allows quick and easy set-up in difficult and remote areas using an opposing pole design, protecting you all year round from severe weather conditions. A tried and tested favourite of mountaineers, climbers and campers, the Scorpion 3 has an impressive floor space, measuring 2.25m long and 1.75m wide, as well as 1.1m of headspace, creating ample room for three people in a top-toe sleeping arrangement. There is also a spacious front porch for storing equipment. In an emergency, the Scorpion 3 can accommodate six people sitting,
The Snugpak Scorpion 3 is an easily pitched, angled profile tent with an extremely small packsize and a mere trail weight of around 2.9kg. Accompanied by DAC Aluminium Poles, it is designed not to take up valuable space and weight in your pack. When travelling on fast and light ventures, the tent design allows individuals to keep different components in each of their packs. This spreads the weight across more than one person. The Scorpion 2 is ideal for base camping and expedition use with the Softie Osprey 15 Sleeping Bag.

The tent material and construction was excellent all around. The pole sleeves were really reinforced, and I see them lasting a long time as it is a tougher rubberized type of material. The poles almost assembled themselves as I picked them up. The poles are a very light weight aluminum, and they lock together well with barely perceptible seams which helps prevent binding when feeding them through the pole sleeves. The stitching throughout the tent was excellent. It is also good that the tent vestibule can be configured a variety of different ways. The vestibule had enough room to store a couple of decent sized packs. I set this tent up in broad daylight, and the black inner tent kept the tent relatively dark inside. The only con I see with this tent is the fact that the zippers for the vestibule are located on the bottom of the tent while I trying to open them from the inside. I will place some small pieces of paracord to these to make them easier to acess from the inside of the tent to alleviate that problem. This tent comes with an excellent carrying bag that the tent easily fits back into. I cannot wait to take this tent out for real!
PS-I also see this tent as being very warm especially if the sun is beating down on it. My tent got fairly warm inside as I was setting it up. It was noticeably warmer than the ambient air.
Edit-I used this tent for yard camping. I waited for a day when decent storms (high winds -55 mph gusts- and heavy amounts of rain) were expected. The storm would be the worst type of weather I would possibly consider camping in. The tent is rock solid when fully staked out. The tent held up fine to the storm and was dry as a bone inside. Some people complain there is not enough ventilation in this tent. The main tent has a regular screen door, and the vestibule can be configured/staked so that the door is partially open on hot days to increase ventilation. While that leaves part of the vestibule exposed to rain, the vestibule is very large and even having half of it dry leaves a lot of dry area. There were not to many reviews on this tent. I watched a couple of YouTube videos a reviewer from Britian did on this tent. One is set a up video. The other describes the features and ways to configure the tent. I highly recommend watching those videos if contemplating this tent. His YouTube name is SgtFruitcake.
Edit 2: I have used this tent a total of about 20 times in 2 summers. I also bought one for my nephew who practically lived in his for a summer. I am still very impressed with this tent. I would have used my tent more, but I am getting into tarp camping. I think my nephew tested his out for longevity use with no problems. All I can say is wow!
At around $250 or so, the Scorpion 3 lies midway between inexpensive consumer tents and the more high-end expedition tents. I am all about practicality, if you are looking for a heavy duty, 3-season tent, there is no substitute anywhere near this price range. If you are planning your BOB or INCH bag and are considering a roomier tent, this is the tent for you.
Size and Weight
Sold as a three person tent, this is really more of a '2 person + gear' or '1 person, 1 dog, + gear' tent. It will fit 3 people, but probably not comfortably, and certainly not with their gear. The Scorpion 3 measures 2.25m long and 1.75m wide and has 1.1m of head space, meaning that an average guy can lie down and sit up comfortably. I am 5', 9" 180lbs, and I can lie down on my back without my head or toes touching the tent. In fact, I generally camp with an ultralight cot, and the cot fits in the tent with nearly a foot of space.
At about 7 and a half pounds (3400g), the weight is the only downside to this tent. Personally, I am willing to sacrifice a pound or two in exchange for being able to pack my gear into the tent with me and having a little bit of leg room. Bottom line for me is size, and this tent is plenty big enough for me to sleep comfortably and store my gear out of the elements. Speaking of sleeping in a tent... unlike most tents that filter light into the tent, the Snugpak Scorpion series inner tent is made of a thick rubberized black material that blocks light so well that even in broad daylight the inside of the tent is dark enough to sleep in.
Setup
The Scorpion 3 is a 'fly-first' design. This simply means that you setup the outer rain fly first, and then attach the tent from inside. The rain fly covers the tent completely, touching the ground on all sides and the inner tent attaches easily to the inside by hooking it to several attachment points. In fair weather, the whole setup took me less than 5 minutes my first time, and by now I probably average under 3 minutes. One trick to decrease the pitch time is to leave the inner tent attached, then all you have to do is unfold, run the poles and stake.
note: once fully assembled, you can keep the inner tent attached and just roll both pieces up and stuff it in the sack, making the next setup quicker.
Step 1:
Unfold the olive green outer fly, install the three poles and stake down. The poles are color coded. There is one silver pole and two green poles, and you have to match these up to the correct locations on the tent. Fortunately, the sleeves for each pole are color coded to match.
When inserting the poles, insert the colored end of the pole through the colored portion of the sleeve.
Step 2:
Unfold the black inner tent and attach to the inside of the rain fly. When inserting the inner tent, leave the screen mesh towards the opening of the rain fly. Each corner of the inner tent will have a floor attachment that attaches to the outer fly via a buckle near one of the corner poles. Don't forget to attach these corner points.
Step 3:
If you have or are expecting to have foul weather, setup the tie downs for the outer flaps and portals.
Final Thoughts
The Snugpak Scorpion line of tents are durable, well-made and purpose built. The Scorpion 3 is an ideal tent for an extended solo backpacking trip in any weather. I could not be more pleased with this tent!
18 Months Later...
This tent is still going strong. It has become my go-to tent when I have the room in my pack. In the last 18 months I've taken this on a good dozen trips, either backpacking in or boating in. The extra room in the tent has proven to be invaluable for storing my gear in inclement weather. The only issues I've had is with the included compression bag which ripped after the first year. I contacted Snugpak, and they not only replaced it for free (even though I was outside of the warranty), they did not charge me shipping and tossed in a few extras as well. I have to say, it's customer service like that that turns me into a true believer. I also own the one person Ionosphere Snugpak Ionosphere 1 Person Tent, Olive Green tent by Snugpak which I use when I need to go light. Both of these tents are just rock solid.

My only caveat is the corresponding footprint (which is a wise investment). At the time I bought the tent it was unavailable at all in the UK. I checked all the dealers listed on the Snugpak website and ended up having to order from 'Empire Tactical' in the US as the only listed supplier who has them in stock. Shipping costs etc. added up so that the footprint cost over £100 and took 5 weeks to arrive.
I am still pleased with the tent and Empire Tactical were great at keeping me informed of shipping which was a little delayed due to east coast snow storms.
So I strongly recommend the tent but please be aware of the footprint issue if that is important to you!

軽いですし、非常き良いと思います。
