A ransom demand leads to secrets revealed, in this twisting crime suspense from the author of The Victim.

Eleven-year-old Danny Stone is snatched on his way home from school, bundled into the back of a van, and driven to a remote, deserted farmhouse.

Danny’s parents, Martha and Richard, are frantic when their only child goes missing and call the police. Their home in Bristol is searched, and their lives and Richard’s career as a solicitor come under scrutiny. Finally, a ransom demand arrives. Martha wants to pay, but Richard procrastinates.

When he leaves the house, Martha searches through his papers. It’s clear her husband has been keeping something from her. But as she tries to untangle his lies, while the police continue their search, Richard risks a dangerous negotiation on his own. And the question remains—how long can Danny survive?

Having worn many hats in my lifetime, writing is certainly one of the most fulfilling. I initially pursued a career in childcare before moving on to train as a therapeutic counsellor and eventually to a role in the voluntary sector with Victim Support. My five years with this incredible organisation provided a wealth of experience and insight into the criminal justice system. The diversity of people using the service has enriched my own life experience and understanding of human nature, which I hope is reflected in my writing.

I mainly write crime/domestic thrillers, although three women's fiction novels are in the pipeline for 2024.

This was a riveting story. A couple's' only son is kidnapped and they work with the police to get him back. But that's just the beginning of a twisted tale. When you think you know all the secrets, you don't. In th midst of all this, two boys form an unlikely friendship which tugs at the heartstrings. All the characters are very well depicted and believable. I appreciate that the author does not pad the story with profanity, gore, or sex scenes. I'm very stingy with 5 star reviews, but this one is well deserved.

I liked the book, it moved kind of slow. The young boy was part of a kidnapping scheme. The parents were upset 😡. It was a little mysterious.

The cruelty of taking a child is starkly portrayed in this fast moving drama. It will keep you guessing and rethinking the course of events to they very last line.

A fast paced book. Enjoyed it and a surprising ending. Didn't see it coming.

Unputdownable, temporarily stole my mind and sanity, wished I hadn't read it yet so I could do it again. If you love suspense you'll thrive, if you're fatigued it will steal your thoughts away and have your heart beating fast and bestow a feeling of excitement. Go for it, you who love to take a mental trip to another world where you can enjoy reading about the troubles of someone else which occur in an exciting way, rather than face your own. The only bad thing about this story is the terrible letdown when you read the last word and you wish desperately that you could keep it going.

I thought it was okay, not the best I’ve read but certainly not the worst. Dan seemed older than 11 — not sure the author did a great job either the child voice.

I very much enjoyed this book! I was very much on those pages, living the whole tram attic experience myself .
The book was well written and I enjoyed the experience and will be on the look-out for more of her writings!

A gripping read about a kidnapped child. Well written, believable characters with plenty of flaws and a plot that kept me turning pages. I loved the twists and turns and was invested from start to finish. A great book.

A thoroughly good read which kept me on the edge of my seat. The twist at the end added to the enjoyment. Oh the frailties of men and women!

The writing is fairly juvenile and the alleged twist at the very end pathetic but the book held my attention for a couple of hours.
