Connect virtually any device or peripheral you can imagine thanks to a Thunderbolt 4 upstream port, a Thunderbolt 4 downstream port, a USB-C Power Delivery port, 2 HDMI ports, an Ethernet port, SD card slot, a 3.5 mm AUX port, and 4 USB-A ports.

A8397

Thunderbolt 4 makes getting more from your laptop a breeze. Transfer files, connect an external monitor, and power your laptop all from a single port. That leaves plenty of ports free to accomplish all of your other tasks. Thunderbolt 4 even features compliance with a range of specifications including previous versions of Thunderbolt, USB4, DisplayPort, and PCI Express (PCIe).

Compatibility Information

  • Compatible with Windows 10 laptops equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 port (Intel Evo Platform), and non-M1 MacBooks running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later.
  • Not compatible with Linux or ChromeOS laptops, Thunderbolt 3 Windows laptops, M1/M2 MacBooks, or M1 Max/Pro MacBooks running macOS 10.16 or earlier.

Note:

  • If you cannot detect the dock after updating to macOS Ventura, please follow these steps: Privacy & Security > Allow accessories to connect.

macOS doesn't support Multi-Stream Transport (MST), and as such, all content displayed via the HDMI ports will be mirrored.

A83971A1_data_EN_分辨率

  • The table above shows the maximum supported resolutions. Actual resolution varies based on the specifications of the host device.
  • MacBooks with the Apple M1/M2 chip only support single monitor display.
  • Intel based MacBooks, Apple M1 Max/Pro MacBooks, and Apple M2 Max/Pro MacBooks support dual monitor display with extended desktop when using a USB-C to HDMI video adapter (not included). Connecting to two monitors using the two HDMI ports will only mirror your desktop.
  • This dock can support up to three simultaneous monitor connections. The number of monitors that can be used with your laptop depends upon the power of your laptop and its graphics card capabilities. Not all laptops have the graphics capabilities to support multiple monitors and you may encounter display issues when attempting to use multiple displays.

Determining Your DisplayPort (DP) Version: The version of DP on your laptop, computer, or tablet directly determines the actual resolution when connecting to external monitors using the Anker hub. There are three simple ways to find out which version of DP your device has.

1. Ask your device manufacturer or seller directly.

2. If you're using a Windows device, you can tell which version of DP you have by checking your CPU generation.

  • DP version 1.2 if your CPU is Intel generation 10 or earlier.
  • DP version 1.4 if your CPU is Intel generation 11 or later.
  • DP version 1.4 if you're using a workstation laptop with an NVIDIA GPU.

Don't know how to find your CPU generation? Simply go to This PC (or My Computer) > Properties and look for the number (shown in bold and underlined below):

Processer: Intel(R) Core i7-8850H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59Ghz

3. If you're using a MacBook, iMac, or iPad, you can find your DP version from the list below:

DP 1.4: iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017 and later), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, 2020), MacBook Air (2020), MacBook Air (13-inch, M1, 2020), MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020), MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021), iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017 and later), iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017 and later), and iMac Pro (2017 and later)

DP 1.2: iPad Air (4th generation), MacBook Air (2018 and later), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016 and later), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), iMac (non-Retina, 21.5‑inch, 2017), and Mac mini (2018)

  • 90W Max Charging: Use a Thunderbolt 4 cable to keep your laptop powered up while you’re working.
  • The USB-A data ports do not support charging.

FAQ

Q1: Can this dock support fast charging for my devices?

A1: This dock supports up to 90W of charging via the Thunderbolt 4 upstream port on the front of the dock (indicated with a computer icon). This means that if your laptop comes with a 100W or above power adapter, the charging speed will be slower than you’re used to. The USB-C Power Delivery port (indicated by “PD”) supports up to 20W fast charging for your phone. The Thunderbolt 4 downstream port supports 15W charging for smaller devices.

The USB-A data ports on the back of the dock do not support charging.

Q2: Will this dock work with any laptop? What kind of cable should I use to connect the dock to my laptop?

A2:No, this dock only works with Windows laptops equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 port (Intel Evo Platform), and non-M1 MacBooks running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later. It is recommended to use a Thunderbolt 4.0 cable.

Q3: How to deal with screen drop, black screen, or screen flickering issues when connecting to an external monitor?

A3: After the dock has just been connected to the external monitor, it's normal for there to be some degree of flickering. It should go away in a few seconds. If this problem persists, try lowering the resolution.

If you experience any screen issues after waking up your laptop, restart the dock. If your laptop or the docking station has not been shut down for a long time and you’re experiencing screen issues, please restart the dock.

Q4: Sometimes the dock doesn’t automatically reconnect after I wake up or restart my laptop. What should I do?

A4: This situation doesn’t happen very often, but if you are having this problem, try disconnecting and reconnecting the Thunderbolt 4 cable.

Q5: Why does the dock feel warm?

A5: When charging or transferring data at high speed, the dock’s temperature may increase. Don't worry, this is within the normal limits of the dock’s operation. To avoid excessive heat, make sure not to place any objects on top of the dock or to cover the dock with anything.

Nearly perfect docking hub
4 Stars
Nearly perfect docking hub
I did a lot of shopping and research to find a good docking hub. The Anker Apex 12-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 docking station was a newly released product at the time and there weren't many any substantial reviews at the time. As a fan of the Anker brand I went with the Anker Apex Thunderbolt 4 docking station. I posted a video on YT of the unboxing that has received a lot of views since posting. Now that I've used it for a few months here are my observations. The dock has a solid feel and nice finish. First impressions were very favorable to the build quality. The small footprint is also nice, but it would have been even better if the vertical stand was included rather than a separate purchase. The ports on the front are fairly self-explanatory. There is only a full size SD memory card slot, so if you are using a micro (in a GoPro or such) you'll need the adaptor. Many other hubs on the market have both a micro and full size. Fortunately I had an adapter from an old camera so I just keep it in the docking station to facilitate reading my micro SD cards. As another user experienced, I am also needing to use my laptop power supply for my Dell XPS 17 since the dock at max rate of 90w isn't enough.Be sure to pay attention to which USB ports you are using on the back for which type of device you are plugging in. I made the mistake initially of attempting to download direct from my camera through one of the USB-A 2.0 (480 Mbps) ports rather than the USB-A 3.1 (10 Gbps)! Huge difference in transfer speeds! The TB-4 ports (one rear and one front) I use for portable SSD drives or other cameras that have a USB-C style port and it works well.I haven't purchased an external monitor, but I did plug the HDMI up to my 65" Samsung smart tv to test and it appeared to work well. I am all wireless, so I also haven't used the Ethernet port.[PHOTOS] The only issues I've encountered so far is that one of the USB-A 3.1 (the fast ones!) partially broke inside a cable when I was removing it. This was very strange as there was no pressure on the cable other than me pulling it straight out and I didn't realize that part of the blue plastic from inside the port had broken and was lodged inside my cable until the I attempted to plug in my next USB cable. Needless to say, now cables fit rather loosely and I sometimes have to wiggle them into the proper position for a good connection, but I can *usually* achieve a connection. Despite this, I would still recommend the Anker Apex 12-in-1 Thunderbolt Docking station, but this is the reason for the 1-star reduction.BOTTOM LINE: I'm still a huge fan of Anker (5 power packs, dozens of cables, wireless chargers, wall chargers, AC power cords, and even a Nebula projector!) so I will continue to purchase their products, including the Apex Thunderbolt 4 12-in-1 Docking Station, and recommend it to others.
