Judge Camille Avery, newly appointed to the federal court, is finally back on her dream career path. She’s determined not to let any mistakes, past or future, get in her way, but a complex murder case and undeniable attraction to her rebellious law clerk threaten Camille’s carefully planned future at every turn.

Attorney West Fallon is a social justice crusader, reluctant to put her career plans on hold to clerk for a federal judge, even if the judge is the man who saved her life. When he’s suddenly forced to retire, West is stuck clerking for Judge Camille Avery, an infuriatingly stubborn—okay, brilliant, intense, and sexy—law-and-order jurist who seems just as unhappy to be saddled with her.

As Camille and West explore their growing desire and challenge the boundaries of their work and personal relationships, a big case threatens to destroy both their careers. Can their love survive?

Engaging characters, beautiful romance, intricate story - everything I love in a book. Carson Taite weaves a wonderful story that stays with you long after the last word is read.

This book was amazing. I have read a few LGBT books. But this one was really a page turner. I loved the way Taite wrote about the internal struggle between remaking professional in a work environment and the desire to love and feel all in one. The opportunities that presented themselves but the Big Bang at the end was a perfect and romantic ending. Makes me still wonder what would have happened if Camille and West had ignored their feelings and saw other people. Would fate bring them back together? I look forward to reading more by you.

I like the way Carsen Taite writes her courtroom related stories. With such details. Makes me think she was one hell of an attorney! The characters were well developed and the plot well thought out. Overall, a well written story! Well done!

Obviously I have the minority opinion after reading the other reviews.

I think "lust love" can set in at first glance - but real, sustained love happens when core values and beliefs are shared. These two have everything going against them: no shared life experiences, entirely different upbringings, unequal financial holdings, significant age differences, and they are at entirely different stages in their careers. Had the author chosen to showcase their similarities rather than their obvious differences, I might have bought into the love story.

The author is a gifted storyteller and engages the reader in her tale. But for me, the premise of a just graduated, street-smart law clerk being the love interest of a well-off, much older poised federal judge just doesn't ring true.

I was interested in the Sadie/Camille story possibility that was dropped. Too bad. A story of two successful powerful women coming together would have been more interesting and believable.

Carsen Taite is an unbelievable writer.
The story pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. While it's not much of a mystery who's doing what, the why makes for an awesome read. Can't wait to read more of here work.

Probably an unlikely combo in life but made for a pretty good story. I enjoyed it more than the last couple by this author.

I really enjoyed Sidebar by Carsen Taite. It is a great story with great characters. Loved West's story about overcoming a hard childhood. The case Camille and West were working on was also interesting.

I liked it, but not as well as some of the author's others

4.0 out of 5 stars A glimpse into a judge's quarters.
Reviewed in Canada on November 7, 2017
I hadn't read a Carsen Taite novel in a while and thought I'd check this one out. Well written and edited. The plot was fast paced enough and there was enough chemistry between the two main characters to keep me interested. I did find the relatively short time period this covers a little unrealistic (yes, I know it's a romance, but nevertheless) and the plot twist interesting but amateurish given the character involved.

Despite this I quite enjoyed it. I liked the characters and what they stood for. I also don't know a lot about law clerks and what they do for judges so I found that interesting.
