If you have an XL phone with a case (I use a Pixel 2 xl) you'll want to get one of the cheap counterweight sets. It can handle it just fine with the motors but for best performance and battery life you'll want to have it naturally balanced and just a small counterweight works well for that. Speaking of battery life, it's insane. Takes a while to charge but that's because you get literal days of run time out of it. I use it as a battery bank for my phone and can get several full phone charges out of it before needing to recharge the Osmo. Definitely worth the money. Not even going to get into the app, but the subject tracking and panning timelapses are amazing.
How to make millions on YouTube.....
If you have ever took video from a phone, you'll see how craptacular it is. Seizure video at its finest. I didn't really believe it either until I saw the difference. I own a Note 8 so it's a pretty big phone but it works great. Day and night. I came from the Smooth Q gimbal but I lost it in Canada. If you are in the neighborhood for taking smoother video as well as enhancing it, then that's why you're looking at this item or those like it. The software you download for it is pretty self explanatory, but there are Youtube vids that will walk you through all the features and settings. It's better than the Smooth Q one, but this thing doesn't do full 360 rotation. You will notice a notch that prevents it. No idea why. Where this is not exactly a dealbreaker, it does detract from it's overall appeal. Like the Smooth Q, it can charge your phone and attach to a tripod. I've shot tons of vids on it and it is amazing. I will try to post some to illustrate it. If you are trying to create a channel, family videos, or great vacation footage, I recommend it
Pros:
It’s inexpensive considering what this tech would’ve cost 5 years ago.
Setup and operation is straightforward.
Video looks amazing. So far.
Cons:
While setup and operation is straightforward, it’s not idiot proof. The balancing of the phone is a little finicky.
With larger phones the gimbal can become jammed if, when turned off, it rotates all the way into portrait orientation. This happened to me and I tried to turn it on and it turned off immediately. I was afraid I’d broken it. It’s fine, just something to be aware of.
The app is ok, not perfect. For instance, and this is nit picky, it doesn’t rotate into landscape until you’ve logged in and connected to the camera. And, do you log in first, or turn the gimbal on first? It’s just a little clunky. It does work though and hasn’t crashed.
Improvements I’d like to see in future generations:
A way to power the phone while using the thing. The app EATS the phone’s battery, and while you can charge your phone via the gimbal’s battery, there is no simple way to plug most phones in without kludging a bunch of adapters together.
Make it simpler to incorporate a microphone. This thing gives truly stunning video, but as it is it’s a huge pain to use either a wired or wireless microphone with most phones. Why not incorporate a usb c or lightning plug into the mount? That way you could provide power to the phone, and if they’d include a 3.5mm jack into the gimbal itself, you could easily utilize a microphone. Maybe bring back the side quarter twenty socket to allow mounting a microphone or small video light.
Do something, anything, to make mounting and unmounting the damn phone less of a process. This thing is small and light enough to carry around everywhere in a backpack, but the process of mounting the phone is so cumbersome I predict after the newness wears off I’ll use it less and less. The beauty of having a 4K camera in your phone is that it’s always right there in your pocket for those spontaneous moments. It would be nice if this gimbal could be grabbed and put into use in under a minute. I think a phone case with a bayonet mount might accomplish just that. You balance it initially, lock it down, then every time you mount your phone, it’s balanced.
On the subject of cases. COME ON!! I have the slimmest case available for my plus sized iPhone, and it simply won’t work with this gimbal. It’s a big pain to remove the case, set it down, fumble with mounting the phone, all the while risking dropping it while it’s out of the case. Then I’m distracted because whatever it was I was trying to video is in the next county by the time I’ve got the phone in the gimbal, so I leave my phone case right there on the ground when I stomp off in disgust. So much for finally getting stable footage of Bigfoot.
All in all, I understand it’s newer technology and being made to a price. And it is REALLY cool. I just wish it required less advance planning and preparation, and was more spontaneous.

While the 2 hour charge time can feel like a long time, the 10+ hours of usage outlasts even the best phone batteries on the market. Coupled with the ability to plug your phone in and charge it off the hand held gimbal itself you are set up ready to go right out of the box.
I have read a lot of reviews between the Version 1 and Version 2 and I will say that I do wish they had retained the trigger on the opposite side of the handle but I didn't find myself completely hindered not having it.
The DJI app is clunky but gets the job done, there are some other professional level mobile video apps on the app stores that work with this gimbal.
This piece of tech feels ideal for any on the go mobile live stream content creator looking to invest in something to help them stabilize their video just a bit more. The DJI app does come with some live stream services built in to it but nothing major in terms of larger platforms (hopefully sometime in the future).
Over all I'm really happy with this purchase from a hobbyist perspective, I've made quite a few compilation videos with it and taken it a lot of different places with no worries of breaking it.
Great job DJI!
