Update: Cayer quickly sent me the missing quick release plate. Kudos for excellent service!
My initial impression opening the shipping carton was that the nylon carrying case was well built. Then I pulled the tripod out of the case. It is solidly built! It feels substantial, like it will last. It looks professional. It came with one quick release head (should have had two) and a couple of wrenches needed for mounting screws.
I don't know how the plastic knobs will hold up over time, but I am usually careful not to over tighten so they may work just fine. The tripod bowl mounting for the head makes it easy to level the camera without having to adjust tripod legs. The head mounted bubble level is easy to use if you tilt the fluid head forward. It's quick and easy to set up and start shooting.
The ability to use either the included 1/4" or 3/16" screws on the quick release plate is a plus. (Hint for Cayer: put a small pocket in or on the carrying case for the extra parts and tools.) The spring loaded safety release button is another cool feature to prevent the camera from accidentally sliding out of the head's mounting plate.
At full 64" extension the tripod is solid, It's not like placing the camera on a granite boulder, but it is solid.
I'm not sure if this is a true fluid head, but it does pan and tilt smoothly. I was able to set the tension to allow free movement when panning and tilting and hold the camera steady in one position when I stopped moving.
I am happy with my purchase. I think I got a great value for the price especially for a head and tripod combo.
At this price, it’s an absolute steal for the quality you receive. The legs are made of metal and very sturdy with a stacked leg design. The additional brace at the bottom brackets adds even more stability for windy/uncontrolled conditions where you might leave the camera for a quick minute or a casual bump from a wanderer, this feature is hard to find in this price range. I find the video fluid head to be stiff and not as responsive as my Manfrotto fluid head but suspect I will find the right balance after a couple gigs.
Pros:
• Professional, metal design
• Sturdy construction, flat wide feet instead of typical pointed feet
• Surprising lightweight, easy to carry on shoulder
• Compact breakdown and bag
Cons
•Stiff fluid head
• Quick Release plate design is awkward but easy to live with
• Feet are adjustable and can be hard to rebalance so be careful
Sets up, strikes, and stows quickly and easily.
→KEEP THE HEX WRENCH IN THE CARRY BAG, long, heavy lenses can loosen the attachment bolt.
Fits perfectly (and very snugly) in carrying bag.
Easy enough to move around a large room with 5+ pounds of gear in the saddle.
Slight stick-and-slip of pan after sitting idle, but tolerable.

HAVING USED IT FOR LESS THAN A WEEK → Easy to set up and easy to adjust thanks to the half bowl. The half-bowl base is a main reason that I bought this Crayer tripod/head combo. Have been using it in a fixed-position studio setting since receiving it last week but will take it to an indoor gig for someone else to shoot video next week. Pan and tilt functions are, basically, smooth and sure with just a bit of stick-and-slip after sitting for a while - once in operation they're quite good.
Before installing the handle, I gingerly checked for the possibility of cross threading and found that the threads on one side of the head could have easily misthreaded. I cleaned and lubricated the threads on each side of the head and on the bolt of the handle before assembling without a problem.
Far from "heavy duty" in professional terms but seems to be perfectly adequate for normal duty and it certainly is worthy of being used by professionals in many situations. It's designed and built much better that comparably-priced, similar, "video" tripods/heads that I have seen or used, and, the head is removable - a nice bonus. If you truly need "heavy duty" and rock-solid stability, you know that you'll need to spend much more.
I would buy again without looking for an alternative and I would recommend this to anyone.
