As for the battery life, it has been in for a couple weeks and it has lost about 10% battery. So I’m guessing it will last about 3 months before it needs a charge. I just ordered a second battery which should double that battery life.
The connection is very quick, it seems to connect much faster than my front door, but in fairness it is closer to the wireless router.
As for installation, I installed it using the provided screws into the frame of my patio door. It actually works perfect there because you can’t really see it and allows me to perfectly position it for motion detection.
My only complaint is the motion zone setup. Unlike the ring pro where I can “draw” motion zones (which significantly helps reduce motion alerts), it only allows you to specify a distance. It really isn’t very intuitive, so I just leave it at mid-range and it seems to work just fine for now.
Beware, in order to have video playback, you do have to subscribe to the ring premium service. And you have to have a subscription per device! I have it for my front door, not sure I’m gonna pay for the back door. That was kind of a bummer to find out I’d have to pay more. It should be a household subscription.
Overall, I’m very happy with the device and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy to install solution without wires.

I have 3 cameras - 1 over my front door, 1 above my garage, and 1 in my backyard. I've had them for about 4 months now, so I feel like I have a pretty good feel for what they're like.
Pros
- The picture/video quality is excellent. Whether it's the live view, recordings, or snapshots, I'm very happy with the quality. Even at night or when it's raining, you can see everything perfectly clearly. The pictures and videos people have posted on here are a good representation of the quality you'll see. You won't be disappointed.
- Motion detection is good. Probably too good, actually. It will pick up any car or person that comes within range, but it will also pick up a tree moving on a windy day. I like that you can adjust the motion sensitivity to tone it down a bit.
- Speaking of adjustments, there are quite a few options to personalize things and get the most out of your battery life. It took a few weeks of tweaking the settings, but I've found a good balance between a good battery life and notifications that I feel comfortable. Just know that you can dramatically decrease your battery life if you have everything set to max settings.
- Build quality seems sturdy. I've had no problems with it working just fine in all kinds of weather conditions.
- Installation is simple. Took longer to decide exactly where to put the cameras than it did to actually mount them. You can do it with just a screwdriver, but a drill will make your life easier. Oh, and be sure to loosen the collar a bit (but DON'T let the screw fall out) before you mount it the first time. Just makes life easier.
- The app is outstanding. Seriously, I was not expecting it to be so user-friendly. Super easy to adjust settings, check out all of your cameras at once, and whatnot. If you have other Ring devices, like a doorbell or indoor camera, they'll be part of your interface so you can check them all at once. Really nice design.
- The price is very fair for what you get. Yeah, maybe a tad expensive upfront, but the monthly fees (if you use the service) are reasonable and much cheaper than alternative systems. It's a good balance.
Cons
- Battery life CAN be bad if your settings aren't adjusted properly. Originally, I had everything maxed out with only one battery and it went dead in about a week. It also annoyed me because I was getting notifications every few minutes. Get a second battery and if you want to max out your settings, you either have to charge often (maybe every 3-4 weeks depending on how many alerts you get), or you'll need a solar panel.
- The motion sensitivity thing is a bit annoying. It will detect small animals, birds, and even rustling trees on a windy day. It will even pick up shadows if a cloud moves quickly. You don't want to turn it down too low, though, because you might miss something. It takes a bit to find the right level.
- The audio is good, not great. You can hear conversations if there's no other ambient noise. But, for example, my backyard camera can't pick up any noise when the air conditioner is running.
Overall, I highly recommend this product. Seems like a good compromise between cost and quality.
1. I can place them virtually anywhere, indoor or out.
2. The Ring user interface is reliable and easy to use. For example, connectivity is a simple push of a button, follow the prompts on your Ring App and presto within a couple of minutes out of the box its up and running. I have 4 spotlight cam battery's and 1 ring doorbell. Another example is the App, which is virtually flawless. It has real time pictures boxes that can be viewed simply by scrolling down and choosing the one you want to examine closely. I like the fact that its all in one - neighborhood watch alerts, motion alerts, maps, blogs, comments...etc. The Ring App also has a two way talk, 120 decibel siren it think but if not its really loud and enough to scare of wood be thieves, and bright spotlight.
3. The low subscription fees makes this a deal breaker. believe me shop around and you will see how much money you are not spending. SD cards are a hassle, no one will take the time to actually download them to your computer just to view nothing.
4. The Ring product line is well made. Yes, there are others and yes there are those that are cheaper. If its cheap your looking for then the Ring is not for you. Ring is not a cheap product, the housing has a hard plastic and is weather proof. 3 of my Spotlight cam battery are in the baking sun and exposed to rain and dust. I have never cleaned the lens and still it shows no dust or caking of any sort. Im not sure what type of coating is on them but dust, water, bird poop, and dirt doesn't seem to stick to it.
Okay so with all the good stuff comes the bad. Here we go:
1. The video quality I wish was better - this could be that im using it through my heavily used wireless access point and that the distance is quite far from the base.
2. There needs to be a focus feature that can zoom in the recorded picture.
3. I wish there was a better wall or ceiling mount. The ball joint is good but some angles are as easy to mount.
This is all I can think of for now.
3. The
