4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

Can the Ladies’ Wagering Whist Society help a gentleman to believe in a Christmas miracle?
The joyful and lovely Rachel Corbyn may be dedicated to helping her father’s parishioners stay healthy and happy but a delicious flirtation with the Duke of Warwick’s handsome secretary last spring awoke a desire she hadn’t even realized was lurking within her. Despite his silence since then, she wonders if she can tease the serious man enough to reignite their friendship if nothing else.
Martin Arbeit had decided long ago to dedicate himself to his employer and his work. The beautiful Miss Corbyn is upsetting all of his plans. She makes him smile and even laugh! She makes him happy—an emotion he’s tried to remove from his life so as to be the best secretary to the duke. But when the ladies of the Wagering Whist Society put thoughts of romance into his head, he finds himself unable to resist the idea—and Miss Corbyn.
A night in a manger, three wise men, and the miracle of birth on Christmas morning turn all the cards in Martin’s favor. How can he possibly resist the most precious gift of all—love?

ARC REVIEW
A sweet read, with a Christmas Miracle thrown in. I love that they get their HEA!

This story certainly had the spirit of Christmas. Very simple and sweet - no real drama but had likable character's.

You don't have to read the previous stories of the series, so stand alone. The H didn't feel he was good enough for the h when he learns her grandparents were part of society.

Clean story with only kisses. No cheating, no cliffhanger, Christmas spirit and HEA. (ljb)

I enjoyed this romance with its interesting characters and the parallels to the Christmas story. A quick, delightful read just right for the holidays.

A sweet, short Christmas story about family and misunderstandings. Two sisters have not spoken in 30 years. Their father had told the youngest daughter not to speak to her sister. That daughter had obeyed her father for 30 years. . Quinn, the son of one of the ladies, plans a house party to try to get the two sisters in the same location and hope they will speak to each other.. His grandfather, who stopped the sisters from speaking, is invited to the house party along with his companion, Miss Charlie Moore. Now what could possibly go wrong with his plan? How will his grandfather, mother and aunt react to his plan? Can there be a Christmas miracle or two?

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Lovely Story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 29, 2021
I am so pleased that Martin Arbeit (Duke of Warwick's Assistant) has his own story. I did feel that in the first story, 'A Hand for the Duke' Martin was treated quite shabily and much put upon, and that he definitely needed to find a nice young lady, which he does in this story, despite Lady Sonora's (The Duke's cousin) attempts to prevent it. Martin and Rachel Corbyn's story occurs at Christmas around the time of the Duke's and Tina Ayres wedding. A sweet story involving a lot of snow, Tina worrying over her parents travelling for her wedding, the birth of a baby, all in all a lovely Christmas read, one I would thoroughly recommend.
