Product Description
With this simple tool you can easily measure and adjust the thickness of a Finish to make sure it will spray well in a paint sprayer. The thickness of coatings can be thin like water or thick like honey. This flow property of a coating is called viscosity. When the coating is too thick for the paint sprayer, It will come out slowly and will spatter, this also can cause visible droplets or a bumpy finish on the surface you are spraying. When the coating is the right viscosity, the spray pattern will look like a fine mist and the finish will be very smooth.
From the manufacturer
Paint Consistency Measuring Cup
Get the Perfect Ratio
Achieving the perfect ratio of paint to water/thinner can be difficult. Use this viscosity cup to easily measure the thickness of the material you’re using.
Easy to Use
Simply dip the cup in the coating and time how long it takes to run out of the cup. The ideal time is 20-45 seconds depending on the thickness of your material.
Determine the Thickness
If it takes longer than 45 seconds for the material to run through the cup, then you will need to thin your paint before it will be able to run through your HomeRight Finish Max HVLP sprayer (sold separately).
- Easily determine if your paint needs to be thinned before use
- Clear sealer, polyurethane, and stain do not require thinning
- Enamel run time: 25-40 seconds
- Primer run time: 30-45 seconds
- Varnish run time: 20-50 seconds
- Latex paint run time: 25-40 seconds
- Color of cup may vary

I purchased this viscosity cup along with the HomeRight Super Finish Max sprayer. Since utilizing the proper viscosity paint is critical to creating a smooth paint finish, why in the world wouldn't HomeRight include this cup with all of their sprayers (like they do with their less expensive sprayer)? A lot of the negative HomeRight sprayer reviews seem related to people trying to use paint that is too thick. Seems "penny wise and pound foolish" for them not to include a viscosity cup with all of their sprayers.
Have not checked volume, but likely 100ml.
Seems to work OK for me.
