Pros:
- Fantastic case with very high quality features all around.
- Lined with a thick, heavy, sound deadening material, very dense. Noise control is very good.
- Fan quality high. Fans are super quiet. Three fans included. I mounted two fans in the front grill and one fan in the bottom of case.
- Lots of room behind motherboard to run wiring. Rubber grommets feel quality and do a good job handling wires coming and going different directions in the same cutout.
- Cooler Master 280L closed loop 280mm water cooler fit perfectly in the top mount position.
- Extra blanking panels made of sound deadening material included (2). I put one on the mesh on the back of the case, and one on the mesh in the side panel. Air comes in through the front and bottom, goes out the top.
- Cooling is very good especially given the quietness. I'm running a OC'd FX-9590 and TWO monster OC'd Powercolor 7990 (3 slot cards), amazingly heat and noise are not an issue. Who would have figured! I mean its not dead silent, but its far from screaming even during 3dmark 11 runs.
- Enough I/O card slots to mount the two 3 slot 7990 and one slot wireless PCI-e adapter, I don't think I can add any more cards.
- Looks understated and I feel like it looks smaller than it actually is.
- Fits my Cooler Master 1200w Pro Gold like glove. I like the rubber studs that keep the power supply suspended from vibration and the cooling fan location at the bottom of the case to keep cool air circulating from bottom up.
- Lots of drive caddies that support mounting of both SSD's and 3.5" disks. The two larger cages have lots of mounting options. I'm able to keep all the disk cages AND still fit my 7990s I used the middle disk tray as a rotated "wind tunnel" to direct air from the front of case right onto the GPUs.
Cons:
- It is heavy and the rubber feet make it hard to slide around. It really needs to sit on the floor.
- The Corsair h100i, a 240mm closed loop water cooler mounts to the top grill, but there is space all around the sides where the 240mm grill can't fill the void. I wish Fractal Designs made it more clear which components were the "optimal" fit vs just fitting. would have saved me some toiling. I had even called them on the phone and they didn't have a good answer as to what to recommend, that said it was nice to actually have a real phone number to call where an actual human answered and was friendly.
- I'm at a loss here.. can't think of anything else to be critical of.
Here are some of my thoughts on The Good:
This case is incredibly spacious. My full ATX board honestly looks like a peanut in this beast.
The included mounts were the proper size unlike many people who accidentally received 6.5mm mounts instead of 8.5mm. I had no problems mounting the motherboard nor did I run into any problem with PCI/PCIe cards fitting.
Behind the motherboard, there is a large space for running cables with 6 large access points on all sides of the motherboard. Needless to say any cable can be routed behind the board no matter where the plug is, assuming the cable is long enough. There is also a large hole behind the motherboard in the CPU spot, making it possible to change CPU cooling brackets without removing the motherboard if you happen to get a new cooler.
The case is deep enough to fit video cards up to 14.5-15 inches long without having to move the upper hard drive cage. It will easily fit your SLI/Triple/Quad setup without issues.
Speaking of the hard drive bays, this is easily the best design I have encountered. The bays are solid metal. Each cage has 4 bays. Each bay has screw holes for both 3.5 and 2.5 inch drives, as well as rubber vibration dampeners built in. You don't need any 3.5 to 2.5 inch adapters for your SSD's.
You mount your hard drives with the connectors facing the far side and do all the cable management in the back side of the case. It makes for a very clean look.
My next topic is the case fans & fan mounts. The fans are nothing special. They are not bad and they move a good amount of air at a low dBa rating. The white accents on the fan blades look very sharp. The three included fans, (intake bot, intake front, exhaust back) can be moved to anywhere you please. Total there are 7 140mm fan spots. Bottom Intake, Side Intake, 2 Front Intake(120mm compatible), 2 Top Exhaust(120mm compatible), 1 Back Exhaust.
Each mount spot that is not not occupied by a fan when it arrives is covered with a removable sound padding. Some simple Phillips screws and the spot is free for a fan.
If your power supply is longer than standard, you will likely have to remove the bottom intake 140mm and relocate it elsewhere as I did. With a little work I was able to fit a 120mm fan in it's place, despite the bottom only having screw holes for 140mm fans.
The top exhaust can be fit with 2 140mm or 2 120mm fans, or in the alternative a slim 240/280mm radiator that you would found with closed loop CPU coolers like the H100i or Coolermaster 240L.
The Front Intake can be fit with either 140mm or 120mm fans as well, leaving you with plenty of options for fans.
The included fan controller is simple. It supports the 3 fans included with the case and has a 5V, 7V, and 12V setting on a simple 3 point switch. The 5/7V is hardly audible(<33dBa), where the 12v setting is around 38dBa. (This is with the whole system powered on - all fans.) All in all, if you have a high powered CPU with an overclock and you are running on air, your CPU cooler will be much louder than any of the included case fans.
Mounting your PSU is simple. There are spacers on the bottom that help support it. The included PSU screws worked perfectly with my Enermax 1k Galaxy. Depending on the orientation of your exhaust or intake fans you will either pull/push air from below the case, or push/pull it from inside the case.
Getting to the outside of the case:
The front looks simple. A nice silver/grey front panel. Quite solid. 2 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, Mic, Headphone, Power, Reset. All the cables reach well across the case to the motherboard headers. All the other panels are solid black.
This case looks incredibly professional. If you are getting this case it's because you don't buy into the teenager notion of your computer looking like a spaceship. No fancy lights. No colored fans. No window into the side. It's simple, it's great for gaming, it looks incredibly simple, sharp, and sexy. You could use it in an office.
The Bad:
I have two minor complaints and they both pertain to the side panels.
On the side behind the motherboard, there is just not quite enough space to easily close the panel. If you have a thick 24pin motherboard power cable, you will likely have to find a way to zip/velcro tie it down so it doesn't get in the way of closing the case. Even then there just isn't quite enough space to make it close easy without putting a decent bit of pressure on it. It makes popping it off for any reason a pain in the butt.
The other side also seems to be a pain in the butt to get on. It has to slide in a certain way otherwise it just doesn't fit right.
Summary: Overall the case is probably the best buy you could possibly make at the 100$ price point. It has the features of cases twice it's price and it's big enough to fit a cow.
As far as building a computer in this case goes, everything is extremely convenient. Everything that is removable is held in place with thumb screws making it easier to change things around. There are 8 individual HDD trays that are each removable for easy installation. The trays lock in place and release by squeezing tabs at the end of the tray. They slide in and out easily. If you want them secured there are included screws to make sure they don't pop out.
A couple things to note are that the variable fan controller and connectors are tied together under the back panel, that is easy to remove. I know it took me a few minutes to spot it, but maybe I am just blind. Also make sure you have the room for this thing. It is a monster and is probably even bigger than you think it will be. Also it is pretty heavy once you get it fully loaded.
TL;DR This is a huge, quiet, easy to use case that is worth every penny.

Endlich mal ein Gehäuse, was aufgeräumt aussieht.
it is very large, solid and heavy and quality case.
it looks very serious and professional and timeless. i bet it will look the same in 10 years to go.
i am glad i got that one, instead of other toy-like cases with bells and whistles.
and it is quiet, but make sure to use proper fans.
