Runs well so far, but has issues
[ See update below ]TL; DNR- runs ok even on 20% grade slopes (elevation 11°)- too heavy for a child to carry (43 lb); doesn't fold- has a Proposition-65 warning (chromium-plating)- has unfriendly user-access to the rear wheel tyre- easy to damage package exceeds box weight limit____I bought the scooter for my 5' 6.5", 13 y.o. child. It was manufactured last October in China (figure A, green frame) and not in California, as a Razor representative gives to understand to a customer query in the Q&A section [amzn.to/305HW0s]. It arrived intact despite its very damaged box.By and large the E200 is a non-foldable heavy scooter, uncomfortably difficult to carry or to handle off floor. It has a chain-driven 24V motor (Unite MY1016, rated 200W, 2750 rpm, 0.68 torque, 78% efficient), and single-speed, twist-grip throttle. Releasing the throttle disengages the motor, allowing easy turns for the beginner. It free-wheels off throttle. Applying the hand brake cuts power to the motor; train your child on how to use the brake since it can cause a rear-tyre skidding. It cannot be stored in an unheated place during freezing winters as this could damage the two slow-charging batteries (lead acid, and not lithium) permanently.I was concerned by reviews claiming the scooter is too slow. But that is not the case, so far. During the initial sessions of getting used to drive a single-speed vehicle and fine-tuning the hand brake operation, I had to run at a race pace to keep up with my daughter. The E200 maintained speed on slopes of up to an 11° elevation angle (20% grade slope), calculated with a find-my-altitude app and applying basic trigonometry. There are four noteworthy points about the E200:HEALTH WARNINGAt the time of this review, this webpage does not inform the E200 carries the Proposition 65 warning "This product can expose you to chemicals including Chromium, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer" -- the warning is given in the shipping box (figure A, light-blue frame) and in other, more responsible online platforms. The fact that Amazon, the direct seller, does not disclose the warning is egregious. Amazon already has a special page, "About California Proposition" [amzn.to/2xkHM67], allowing careful sellers to warn shoppers simply with a link to it in the Product Information section. A responsible seller does not interfere with health information to parents about children's toys; Amazon should clean its act. After informing myself on the issue, I decided to keep the E200 as the health risk is due to inhalation of chromium fumes/dust, or drinking contaminated well water, or a hand contact transferred to the mouth, which are essentially nil in a fully spray-painted, chrome-plated toy.OVERLOADED PACKAGEThe E200 arrived in its original manufacturer shipping box from China, with a standard box certificate with a 32-lb gross weight limit (figure A, round inset). Such limit is the absolute maximum load a shipping box can handle, including the weight of the box itself. At the top of this page, the weight of the item is incorrectly described as ~42 lb [19.3 kg], but Razor says it is 38.17 lb [17.35 kg]. I measured the weight of the shipping box contaning packing cardboard pieces and the power supply as 5 lb., so the total weight exceeds the box's limit by a whopping 11+ lb. The E200 shipping package is therefore significantly overloaded, which is why the box arrived damaged and partially opened (figure A, orange frame). This is the fault of both Razor and Amazon: Razor for allowing its manufacturing associates in China to ship the E200 in an inappropriate box; Amazon for sending a single driver to deliver by hand without a dolly a large box marked with "heavy" warning stickers and the printed advice "two-person lift or mechanical aid". I was lucky the scooter arrived intact.ACCESS TO REAR TYREThis webpage does not make clear that the access to the rear tyre (e.g., to refill it with air) is not easy. The air valve is covered by the fork-mount for the axis of the wheel, and needs a valve-extender tube for filling the tyre and some non-trivial work. The E200 has a plastic extension tube inside the right handlebar grip, accessible by removing the handlebar end cap (figure B). To do this well, turn the E200 upside-down, and put its deck on a table or high flat surface. The right-side plastic guard of the tyre has a ~0.6" [15 mm] hole with a swingable round cover (figure C), through which the valve can be reached once the wheel is correctly positioned. The air-valve stem orientation, however, is angled a bit from a straight line to the hole, making it difficult to screw the extension on the valve (whose thread seems coated with some kind of sealant). Pulling the stem up slightly with a loop of string (figure D), aligns the valve and facilitates the attachment. Razor advises to verify that the pressure of both tyres is 36 psi before using the E200 for the first time.PRICEThe E200's average price here over the first eleven months of 2021 was $217 (range from $184 to $350; median $210). It was bumped up to $350 for a couple of days at the end of November, creating its current high "list price" before the 2021-Xmas shopping. Based on its 2020 price behavior, the current price should drop by some $20 on January 2022.___UPDATE (December 22)The scooter has been used daily since its delivery. With E200 charging overnight, my daughter consistently gets between 30 and 34 minutes of continuous use, which helps to plan distance to and fro; lead-acid battery output drops as it gets used up (voltage decreases and internal resistance increases), so the speed also drops a bit towards the end of this period. She has not encountered any problems so far. Remember that lead-acid batteries should always be charged prior to storage.
