Update #2: I replaced all but one of the thermal pads and added thermal pads to the VRM phase chokes: proformance increased by a lot. 9°F off idle. I also used the new noctua H2, which is very good stuff. Score of 120% on userbenchmark, the max 2070 score at this time is 119%. Zotac has made a top-tier card.
I notice the cooler and chassis of the cooler is very well made, you definitely get a great cooler for MSRP price. I'm really suprised Zotac decided to do such a good job.
Runs all games at max @ 1080p: I came from a 980ti, which it's about 50% faster than.
The box just came with the card and 2 molex to PCIE graphics card connectors. There's also some papers that's just zotac's advertising and instructions you don't need.
The 2070 super is not like the 2070. The original 2070 uses the 2060's chipset, while the 2070 super uses the 2080's chipset. The GDDR6 memory is very fast compared to the GDDR5. You get 8 GBs of GDDR RAM to work with.
I'm running the Cooler Master H500, results may vary with your case:
Specifically to this card: it runs cool and quiet underload. It reaches about 160° F maxed out with no custom fan curve. But it averaged about 156°F. It went all the way down to 149°F under load with my curve.
I'd recommend to make the fans run minimum 30% and 50-60% underload for the curve. This is to make sure the card does not throttle itself. It does not get loud even then.
The noise of the fan is deep, apposed to an annoying high pitched blower cooler. At max fan speed for sound testing, the sound is loud, but that's to be expected. I think most people can stand up to 70% fan speed.
This card will allow you to use G-Sync on compatible monitors, which does great to smooth out games. Even with sporadic frames with G-Sync on, the experience is very smooth.
You can run Rust at max graphics with this card, staying above 100 FPS at 1080p.
Rainbow 6 Siege runs about an average of 120-160FPS at max everything
It plays Tarkov very well. I think it's GDDR6 RAM really helps with that.
Any other game: Smite, PlanetSide 2, Overwatch, Fornite, etc do not stress this card enough. You can pretty much crush any modern "Triple A" titles.
I wouldn't use the software that is meant to control it. It isn't that good, unless you need to control the lights or voltage. Well, I didn't like it anyways. The auto-overclocker is terrible and the application can crash your PC if the OC fails.
Update: MSI Afterburner works if you download the beta version for the voltage control, but the voltage change doesn't make the card anymore stable.
For overclocking (at your own risk) try:
+100 core clock (don't go past unless you know what you're doing) Try +88 if artifacts happen
+500 for memory clock. It reached +1000 for me but there was no benefit and it causes artifacting/instability
The highest score I got on userbenchmark for this GPU is 152% with the +100 core clock and +550 memory clock. The current highest 2070 super score on the site is 155%.
The Superposition benchmark gives this card the max score in terms of the Maximum graphics option for VR ready.
Don't mess with the voltage, Zotac has a weird 3rd party driver controlling / locking any other software other than its own to effectively use it. I couldn't get any more proformance out of messing with voltage.
Something I'd like to say is, don't choose the 2080 super over the 2070 super. For $200 more gaining only 13% in effective speed (userbenchmark.com) is not "bang for your buck."
It comes with no USB-C connector. You could use a display port to USB-C if you really needed it.
It has a HDMI 2.0
If you want to water cool this in the future, that may be a problem. I couldn't find any compatible blocks on the market.
I had a Zotac 1060 6GB Mini before this card, and have not had any issues with either Zotac card. Overall, good card at a good price.
Update: The RMA went through. Their website RMA process is kind'a odd and I had to do it multiple times to get through, but everything turned out okay. After I sent mine in and they did their evaluation to confirm that it didn't work, they sent me out a replacement. Replacement appears to have been a new card (which probably makes sense since it had just launched) so that was nice.
I would have to say that looking back, there were probably warning signs that it was bad sooner to it completely becoming unusable. And with that in mind, the replacement works much better than my first one ever did during it's "working" period. For me, about 2 weeks into my original one, there was a period of time where it just decided to crash continuously, during moments where it would have otherwise been content operating before. I tried a newer driver and things settled down, but I think that may have just been coincidence with the thing self-healing whatever real problem it had going on.
So I would say stress test the living daylights out of it before you get past your normal return window. Only after I started playing really demanding modern games (not some two year old ones), that the thing really keeled over. It was probably some intermittent manufacturing defect that was affected by heat.
So right now, I'm really happy with it. Definitely take the time to fill out and submit the information to get the extra year of warranty.
My motivations for buying this specific card were the large heatsink surface. Lots of fins across pretty much the entire body. What I don't like about the card is that it does not include a USB-C port on it. I knew that going into the purchase, though. I also don't like how it doesn't screw into my case correctly. I tried in friend's machine as well and it didn't screw into that either. I suspect there is some strange tolerances going on with the shield portion. I bet I could make it fit with slight modifications though. It doesn't appear to be too far off. I'm using my case's screwless access tab in the mean time. It's just a really heavy card and I don't like the idea of relying on a compression connection.
