Handles 7in of wet snow no problem

Handles 7in of wet snow no problem
Putting this together is just two bolts, so a easy 3-5min job. We got 7in of snow last night here in the PNW, which means it is wet snow. I got up early to test this out before the snow turned to slush, and this punches right through no issue. I will say the power trigger and safety switch is not great. The power trigger has a really short throw, so if you adjust your grip at all you will need to re-engage the safety switch for it to power back up. I'll likely just zip tie the safety switch open which I know becomes a safety hazard, but oh well, my problem. Other than that it works and gets the job done. Honestly this likely isn't any faster (maybe by a little) than a manual shovel, but it is far easier on the back. You still got to work to push it a long, but no longer need to lift wet heavy snow and that's a win.

Live in CO. He had a really hot summer and the first snow didn't fall until Dec 31st. The late snowfall usually means it'll be a lot more snow in the late winter/spring. That's what happened. Pretty heavy snow and a lot of it.

First time I used this I was impressed. It grabbed snow as deep as 6 inches and threw it 15 to 20 feet. It works very well.

Pros:

Ease of use, the 2 handle design works well. I have carpal tunnel in my left wrist, and adjusting the handle to a stable/comfortable angle was awesome. It relieved the strain and the 2 handles also helped relieve back pressure/strain.

Power. You push this along at an angle towards you so that it is slanting upwards towards you. I was able to push this thing through pretty thick heavy snow and even into some ice chunks and it picked everything up that was loose and threw it. It also broke up some of the ice that had started to form.

Cons:

The knob on the lower handle broke the first time I used this. Again, I have carpal tunnel and had to adjust the handle a few time to find the right angle & height for me. On one of my adjustments the knowb just fell apart. The plastic is brittle and it just disintegrated on me. I was wearing heavy gloves and was still able to use/tighten it but I foresee a time where I will have to break out a pair of pliers to loosen/tighten the screw.

Snow only blows in one direction > straight away from you (ignoring wind conditions). This is more of a wish than a con, but it would be nice if there was rudder/louver system that could be used to direct the flow even a little. It can be hard to strategically get the angles needed to remove the snow without it A) blowing back on something you just cleared B) blowing against a car or home C) blowing into an area that you will need to clear and knowing it will be that much harder to clear it now.

No speed adjust. There were times when I only wanted to blow the snow a few feet instead of 15 feet to prevent it from going onto or against something.

Overall, for the price this is an OK product. Handle knob needs some work for sure and I might have spent a little more on a product that had a louver and speed adjustment.

Works like a champ. I just used it for the first time and love it. I live in an area known as a snow belt so I know how to deal with snow. I've done it all from hand shoveling my own driveway to using monster sized snow blowers to paying someone to do it all for me. Would I want to use this to clear my entire driveway?...Not a chance!!! So why did I buy it? Two reasons---to clear my porch and walkway and to clear the 18 inches in front of the garage door that the plow can't reach. I want to address some of the negative comments that I've seen:

1. The description clearly states that it has snow depth restrictions...if the snow is deeper than that make two or three passes---I used the same motion that I use with my vacuum cleaner and cleared about 9" deep snow in two passes.

2. The cord kept coming undone--all I can say is-it's a corded power tool...... Tie a loose knot in the cord like you would for any other power tool--problem solved.

3. The cord gets in the way...anyone who has ever run a vacuum cleaner knows how to keep the cord out of the way. If you don't want to deal with the cord then buy a gas powered one. Think vacuum cleaner--machine in one hand cord in the other...flip it behind you as go. problem solved.

4. It only blows snow in one direction and blows back in your face. Yup... It's a shovel, not a snow blower with a rotating shoot. Would you spit into the wind? Shift directions. It's common sense

5. Throwing power. I found that it threw the snow about the same distance as my snowblower. It does only throw in one direction so yes, to get across the two car driveway you are clearing the last foot or so twice but still considerably less work than a regular shovel.

6. Some have said that it's too heavy.....the machine itself is not heavy---but you're still clearing snow and snow is heavy. Any healthy adult would find the Snow Joe to be much less back breaking than a regular shovel. If someone thinks that clearing snow with the Snow Joe is still too too heavy then it's time to hire the neighbor kid to do the snow removal for you.

7. It's too difficult to keep the button pushed... I don't understand that at all. I had no problems what-so ever. You just have to keep your thumb on one button which is plenty large enough to feel. And if you accidentally let go you don't need to do anything more than pull the trigger--it takes more energy to restart my lawnmower when I accidentally let go of the bar,,

Overall it turned a 30-45 minute manual back-breaking job into a 10 minute "didn't-even-break-a-sweat" job. I would highly recommend Snow Joe as a replacement to your regular shovel.

I can't say anything about durability as I've only used it once. I can say that for the price, if it only gets me through one season it's still less money than paying someone to do it for me.

Saw a neighbor use a power shovel and decided to give this one a try. While it goes together easily, there is some play in the shaft between the handle and the shovel head.

For the most part, the shovel works pretty well. It does take a little practice to use effectively. My complaint is with the build quality of the shovel head. In less than a month of use, part of the guide piece on the bottom of the shovel head broke off. While it does not appear to have made the power shovel unusable, it is annoying and I am not confident additional plastic pieces will not follow suit.

I bought this for my mom to make her life a little easier. It is surprisingly powerful and durable and will work on even pretty heavy snowfalls.

I expected this thing to be weak and break easily, but I watched some videos of it being used and was impressed. Decided to go for it and so far it's impressed me!

Definitely recommend!

I got and tested it, it has a powerful electric engine and pushes the snow far way. The only thing missing is a guide or something to make it easier to roll. Now, it is not very good if you have stairs to clean or maybe it is me that is not handling correctly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handles light and medium snow with ease. Consider the version with adjustable duct
Reviewed in Canada on December 30, 2021
Size: 13-Inch, 10 AmpVerified Purchase
I really like this little power shovel, it's light enough and powerful enough to use to clear my yard with lots of steps on the front and back. For light and medium weight snow, it will do the job just fine, though you'll have to go slower with heavier snow to not overload the mechanism.

All of the parts except for the auger axle are plastic, so if you hit anything hard, you'll chew up your blade a bit. Probably won't harm performance much as long as you don't do too often. At the end of the day, this unit isn't that expensive, and if I get 4-5 seasons out of it I'll consider it money well spent. Currently 2 years in without difficulty.

I think I should've spent the extra $60 or so for the higher-end version with the adjustable duct for the snow, this model only throws snow directly forward, so at times you're re-blowing snow you've already cleared if you have a long driveway. If you can angle to the sides, that won't happen.

Presque 1 an plus tard.
