Inconsistent but workable

Inconsistent but workable
I purchased this product to feed a betta pellets a few days at a time while out of town, not to be used every day. After much tinkering with it and some tape, I have it workable. I will not use it every day as it is too inconsistent. Sometimes it dispenses zero pellets, sometimes it dispenses 10. I've got the average to around 5 which is good enough for a few days at a time. This feeder has a drum full of food as a hopper. A timer is set to cause this drum to rotate 1-3 times at set times of day. The drum has a paddle which grabs the food during drum rotation and directs it to a small adjustable opening in the drum. As that opening rotates around to the bottom, the food falls out of it. A door can be slid open/closed to adjust the opening size which is supposed to control food quantity delivered. As others have stated, food size consistency is important. I use the Tetra BettaMin pellets. They are somewhat inconsistent. The less consistent the food, the less consistent the delivery amount. Due to the random nature of the food rolling around the drum, it is still inconsistent in delivery amount but consistent enough for my limited use.I set the unit up on my counter with a bowl under it to program the unit up and test it’s delivery. I adjusted the door as small as I could without being smaller then the width of the larger pellets. At this setting the door is large enough that it just lets the food fly. Once delivering 50 pellets. I then began to tape over portions of the opening to make it smaller to deliver less. I ended up quite small as seen in one of the images. If you don’t care about over feeding, it will work fine. If you have lots of fish, it may be better.Only using this thing once in a while for a few days at a time, I did not want to modify the tank to accommodate it. I cut a small piece of angle iron and clamped the timer to that. It is heavy enough to hold itself up when set on top of the screen. The screen is large enough that the food falls right through. It is cheapo electronics so it has quirks and the instructions leave you wanting. Fresh batteries show up as half batteries on the screen on mine.To program- Press and hold the gear button for 3 seconds-The hour numbers will start to flash, indicating setting the current time-Press the up/down arrows to set the current hour-Press the gear button again-The minute numbers will start to flash-Press the up/down arrows to set the current minutes-Press the gear button again-The hour numbers and the left most box will start to flash, indicating setting the first dispense time-Press the up/down arrows to set the first dispense hour-Press the gear button again-The minute numbers will start to flash and the left most box will continue to flash-Press the up/down arrows to set the first dispense minutes-Press the gear icon again-The left most box will be the only thing flashing, indicating setting the number of times the drum should rotate-Press the up/down arrows to set between 0 and 3, zero being off-Press the gear icon again-The second box and hour numbers will begin to flash indicating setting the second dispense time.-Continue the process through however many dispensing cycles you need, up to 4At any point, you can press the hand/finger(Manual) button to exit programming mode.If you press the manual button while not in programming mode, the drum will rotate one time.Time is set in 24 hour format. When setting PM times, add 12 to whatever time you are wanting. If you want to set a feed time to 6:30 PM, 6:30PM + 12 = 18:30.I have not had it long enough and don’t use it everyday to know about battery life.
