Installation:
*disclaimer* I am someone who has amateur level experience with vehicle electronics, aftermarket stereos, and general vehicle maintenance; that being said: I found installation relatively breezy. The directions I found on the "blackboxmycar" website were helpful and straight forward, it probably took me three to four hours due to my specific vehicles trim and in seeking to hide the hard-wiring kit as cleanly as possible, as well as locate effective placements for the hard-wires that would activate and deactivate the dash-cam properly (or enter parking mode if I enable it).
Features and ease of use:
This dash-cam has some rather useful features, I found the app easy to use but I find myself mostly pulling out my memory card to check out clips I have manually recorded with the manual record button. Go ahead and upgrade your memory card if you want to use the parking features and I would advice motion and collision detection on lowest settings as possible for parking mode because it will film quite a bit and can easily take up a lot of space on the small card. Take some time to read the manual and play with the features and you should feel your use of the dash-cam to be seamless much like I do now. Which is exactly why I hardwired it, it feels like a part of my vehicle now and I barely think about it unless its telling me where speed-cameras are which is an interesting feature too, I wonder where they find that data?
Also, if I could afford a hotpot for my car it would be awesome to be able to access my dash-cam from the think-ware cloud, seems like a really cool feature but i cant testify to its use, that comes with some other cool features like geo-fencing if you have kids or are letting someone borrow your car and don't want them traveling outside a certain area.
Picture quality:
As far as I can tell the front camera quality is quite nice, the rear is not as good but that can be expected.
Overall conclusion:
I actually bought this camera because it is known to do well in the heat and I wanted decent video quality. I live in Florida, and its been in my window for about 3 weeks of summer now and its still working seamlessly. I really have no complaints. I did some research before purchase and I feel like this met my expectations, It also has more features than I even need but may use later in life assuming it lasts a long time.
