Nice camera that I don't need to think about. License plates are difficult to read.
    4 Stars
Nice camera that I don't need to think about. License plates are difficult to read.
The installation was relatively easy--I used the OBD-II port adapter for a no-fuss installation in my 2017 GMC pickup. The hardest part was tucking the wires away with a trim tool, but that only took 20 minutes.I had higher expectations for video quality, and perhaps was asking too much for 1440p. I have noticed that unless a car is directly in front, there is no way I can read a license plate. This means that the camera is really only going to be useful to document the event, rather than find a person. That's not necessarily bad, as my wife's Garmin dashcam has similar quality, but it underscores the need to shout out the license plate of a car if you can read it, for the audio to capture.Thinkware support was not very helpful with the video quality issue--I sent sample images and they would not come clean and say "that's expected behavior" but they wouldn't say "your camera has a problem". I suspect it's the former.I have provided a frame from one of the particularly bad moments for reference: note the mottled watercolor appearance. That seems to come and go depending on lighting and time of day. I had the CP filter on the camera. The "save recording" button design is terrible. It is in the middle of a little D-pad style set of buttons, and there is no raised texture or anything on it to help locate it by feel. Whenever I have tried to hit it, I occasionally turn off audio recording or something else. It would be frustrating to miss an important moment because I couldn't find the right button. The app is as fiddly as most of these apps are. I think Garmin has done a better job with theirs. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with this camera in my truck and am hoping I never actually need to provide video evidence of something.

Good quality video and super easy to install. The parking mode gives you a peace of mind while away from your vehicle. The app is easy to use and convenient for downloading videos or to review it. I highly recommend the product! Steps for installation are easy to follow. All you need is a circuit tester to be able to hardwire the dash cam.
