» Rebecca Ross

I am starting to have a love-hate relationship with Greek Mythology retellings because most of them are starting to feel similar.
Psyche and Eros has a great premise and is focused on two figures in Greek Mythology that I know little of. However, the book was prolonged, making it hard to stay focused and enjoy. If it were faster-paced, then I would have enjoyed it more.
For the characters, I enjoyed the dual povs to get to know Psyche and Eros with their complexities. They were fleshed out well and the world was well crafted.
If this book were more concise and faster-paced, I would have relished Psyche and Eros more
Gone are the days of a naive young woman misled by her manipulative sisters. In McNamara’s version, Psyche emerges as a formidable character—a warrior with a heart unyielding in its determination. Despite occasional missteps and a touch of gullibility, she refuses to succumb to self-pity. Instead, she rises to the occasion, battling for Eros with unwavering resolve.
But Psyche isn’t the sole recipient of McNamara’s creative brush. Eros, once depicted as Aphrodite’s carefree and mischievous son, has undergone a profound transformation. No longer a mere deity, he now inhabits the realm of primordial gods. His contemplations delve into the complexities of love, life, and death. For Eros, love isn’t always a blessing; it can be a relentless ache, defying reason—a curse that weighs upon his immortal soul.
In this reimagined saga, McNamara invites us to explore love’s multifaceted nature, where passion and pain intertwine, and where even gods grapple with their own vulnerabilities.

I never enjoyed a book so much in my life
So romantic !
I thought that this was a great retelling and couldn't put this book down.
A great feminist take on this classic myth. Blended with the stories of a few other heroes and gods. I loved the romance, the adventure and the stakes shown in this story. A must read Greek myth retelling 🏺🏛
Looking forward to any new books the author brings out if there similar
