as children we used this type of magnifier in school. they worked fantastic then and they work fantastic now! A bully used to break my magnifying glasses but he threw one like this across the playground and if hit a metal bar and deflected hitting the teacher in the chest. She carried to to me, dropped it on my book and there wasn't a scratch on it. The bully didn't fair quite so well.

Handy to have for reading small print.

This came in a cloth bag with a cleaning cloth. It appears nicely made (no scratches or chips). It is perfect for reading the small print on prescription bottles (and their tiny warning inserts), but I also like it for looking at fine details in pictures. I highly recommend it for people that need a little extra help seeing small details.
It is not, however, helpful for a condition like macular degeneration. I bought two extras and gave one to my dad and one to a friend, both of whom have this eye condition. It helped neither one.

We inherited hundreds of photos recently which are super hard to see. With this dome, you just set it on top of the photo to see everything. It's attractive too, like a paperweight when you're not using it. It comes in a soft pouch which we set it on while not using. It's acrylic so, if it gets scratched it would be ruined.
