The world that we live in is a very dark place. Everywhere you look there is blood looming. There are powerful individuals waiting for you to take your last breath. Powerful individuals that would strap you to a chair and let you suffer. It’s those powerful men and women that took my father from me, the ones I’m going after. Starting with Dante Rossetti. He called the hit that took the most meaningful person in my life down. I will take him down, watch every inch of his life burn to a crisp, even if I have to pretend to be someone else entirely and lie my way into his life. I will destroy the man that everyone calls the devil and he won’t see a thing that is coming his way.

Ranking: 4.5⭐

I've been waiting for this book ever since Jocelyne Soto made the announcement about it, especially because it takes place in the world of Flore de Muertos and because having read, and loved, that series I thought I already knew what to expect from Powerful Deception, however Arianna & Dante's plot went to totally unexpected places, she gives some quite original twists to the revenge trope and to the personality of the main characters as well, so I couldn't be happier with this reading. Besides that Jocelyne made me need the story of some of her supporting characters, as usual.

Arianna was a character who shone from the beginning of the story, she was a character that I really enjoyed reading, she's a girl who suffered the loss of her mother at an early age and at the age of 24 she has to face the murder of her father, and this is where THE FIRST TWIST AND TOUCH OF ORIGINALITY TO THE STORY IS because she's the one who embarks on a path of revenge hoping to find out who murdered her father, something I liked so much because I think we almost always see male characters being vindictive and violent. Plus, Arianna also makes some bad decisions throughout the story, something that I think is also more common in male characters, but even with that we can see that she's a girl who he deeply loves her family, and that is why she does what she does, without a doubt she's brave and is not afraid to walk into the lion's den to achieve her goal, and even with his desire to discover who killed her dad, she experiences self-doubt, guilt and regret several times along the way which makes her an even more real character. And as usual in single parent romance, Ari is amazing with Dante's children and I loved reading her falling in love with them as much as with their dad.

The man Arianna seeks revenge on is Dante, known as The Devil, a bloodthirsty, ruthless and VERY feared man who has closed his heart to love due to a recent tragedy until Ari comes into his life. Something that I really liked about his character is the way in which he separates his life as a mobster from his moments as a father, and that is that from the beginning I could see how adorable he is with his little ones: Angel & Alessandra, the routine so well created that he has with both and how he is willing to protect them from everything. I think Dante is an unusual character because WITH HIM JOCELYNE GAVE US ANOTHER TWIST TO THIS STORY because despite being one of the most feared men in the city when it comes to Ariana he gets a little naive because of how she makes him feel, which I found cute and unusual, so I really enjoyed it.

Dante & Arianna's story begins when she attends an interview to be the nanny of Angel & Alessandra, a first meeting that was very fun for me to read, and that makes that Ari has the opportunity to enter Dante's life and get her revenge, however, Arianna soon realizes that Dante is not the person she expected, experiences his most human side every time she sees him living with his children, and despite the doubts he has about her ability to do the job, Dante's feelings intensify when living with Ari makes him see how much she cares about his children and that's why he allows himself to let her into his life and open his heart, but the situation that led them into each other's lives it is very complicated and both have to face each other's lies at some point in the story, something that made me very nervous, but Jocelyne handled it in a way that I loved!!

To finish I have to say that now I need to know what is going to happen with Evelyn & Lorenzo, although there was very little mention of both of them as a possibility, I would love for them to have their own book, and I definitely NEED Maddox because what I could read about him in this story was very interesting and he has a lot of potential.

I finished this in just one sitting. No kidding, I couldn't put the book down once I got sucked into Arianna and Dante's story. As much as I was engrossed in Arianna's journey to find the truth about her dad's murder, I was more intrigued by her relationship with Dante and with his kids. I absolutely loved watching them together. I definitely think Dante and his kids needed her. Especially Allie. I loved how much light she brings into their life. And of course, I absolutely loved the epilogue. It was so sweet to see. I loved their story. I can't wait to read more from Jocelyn Soto.

This was a really good forbidden age gap mafia romance I was completely swept away in this story it was devastating for what both main characters were dealing with but I loved that they found comfort in each other I really felt Arianna’s desperation in finding out who killed her father and the sexy times were so effing hot ! I fell head over heels in love with Dante’s kids and Dante himself was just so darn sexy he had me swooning so hard and the chemistry between these two was on fire !!! This was a very addictive page turner and one I highly recommend!

I really wanted to love this one. The revenge plot had me salivating. But when I started reading, I had a really hard time believing any of it. She was Googling how to find mad men. Just didn't seem believable to me. Once I got past that I enjoyed the story. I was surprised that it was an age gap/nanny. I wasn't expecting that at all. It was good. And it was freaking hot. Like fire hot. Would have liked to see a bit more of the revenge plot and the mafia world but still a pretty good read. **3.5 Stars**

When your mother-in-law asks, "What are you reading?" And you answer, "Oh, a silly little romance..."

Arianna's father is killed. She suspects the Devil of Chicago did it and decides to infiltrate her way into his life. She ends up working for him and his children and from there chemistry takes over. But will she end up doing what she set out to do?

The cover is extremely hot, and the steam in this was definitely there. (Although nothing too extreme or kinky, despite what the cover implies.) However, it does start in a place that didn't feel natural in the story.

A lot of this felt a bit forced or cheesy. For example, she Google searches her father's name to see if she can find some suspects in his murder, gets a knock on the door and assumes they're onto her. A Google search. Not hard-core detective work. I found myself having to suspend disbelief and eye rolls a lot, but the story felt flat to me and wasn't quite worth it.

I did think Dante's description and the air of mystery in his title of the devil of Chicago was intriguing at the start. I love when a man has a reputation like that in these books. I just don't think this one hit it for me.

Thank-you so much Book Sirens for my advance reader copy.

"Your beauty would run that place to the ground."

Arianna knows her father wasn’t a dirty cop, and she can’t stand that those rumors start flying literally not two seconds after burying him. All she knows is that a man named The Devil is involved, and she’s vowed to take him down. She just has to discover how first. Fortunately, The Devil has need of a nanny, and she's more than willing to take the job--especially if it means getting proof that her father wasn't working for the Mafia.

Dante Rossetti knows who Arianna is as soon as she walks into his club to interview for the job. The only thing he doesn't know is why she's there. Against his better judgment, he decides to give her the job but vows to keep a close eye on her as she takes care of the two most important people in his life.

As Arianna bonds with the children, she can't help but be attracted to their dark and influential father. Dante is still struggling with the death of his wife, but he still feels drawn to the young nanny--regardless of her true purpose in his house. Despite their chemistry and attraction, there are other factors that could tear them apart-- namely, Dante's job. How could a cop's daughter fit into the dark underbelly of Chicago's Mafia family? How could Dante forgive her lies?

It's been a while since I've read a Mafia romance novel (personally I usually read Bratva novels, so I'm not super familiar with Italian mafia novels). Still, I'm glad I jumped back into this with both feet. Unfortunately, as of writing this review, I am dealing with a breakup so I will definitely be stealing Dante as my current book boyfriend (among the many others). I really appreciate how much the "will-they-won't-they" dynamic is featured in this book. It was the perfect amount of angst and made their tender moments so much sweeter. This is also my first book by Jocelyne Soto, and I will absolutely be reading more of her works!

I'm never going to refuse to read a book about a girl out for revenge, and that's what Ariana sets out to do against Dante, a ruthless man of the mafia known as "The Devil", and frankly, I couldn't help cheering her on despite the fact she makes some questionable decisions because her quest was just in her mind which again, I can get behind! Dante is feared in his world, but when he's at home, he's an amazing dad to his adorable tiny humans which means I loved him despite my #GIRLPOWER bias. Ariana becomes his nanny, and despite her path, she's facing doubt as she starts to see him as human despite his rep as she's around him at home. The sparks are flying, and they won't be denied for very long since they are that strong so you already know things will get even more complicated as the story goes on, and if he finds out what she's planning, well hell, won't be good will it as he rules the city with an iron fist. Both have secrets (obviously hers are very dangerous to her person) that don't make friends, so I was turning the pages at a very rapid pace since I needed to know before the anxiety got the better of me since you don't cross mafia men. This story captivated me cover to cover, and I know I'll be revisiting it again before long! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was intrigued by the premise of this book, the girl going after a mafia boss for revenge was one I could get on board with. I liked Arianna she was resourceful and determined but also impulsive which ultimately brings her to seek out Dante. Dante is a devoted single father of two young children he is also the boss who rules the city. The dynamics between Dante and Arianna was enjoyable to read there is a lot of tension because of the secrets they are keeping and the attraction between them that grows throughout the book. I liked the way the relationship developed and I believed in them as a couple, I was waiting on them giving into the sexual tension and that aspect did not disappoint. There were a couple of things missing for me, one was I wished there had been more plotting and scheming related to the revenge and Dante is meant to be ruthless and I didn't see enough of that although daddy Dante was hot.

This book was so unexpected in a good way. It's a mafia, age-gap, nanny/boss romance with a touch of revenge trope where the FMC is hoping to find out who murdered her father. Her thirst for revenge leads her to becoming the nanny of Dante, The Devil’s kids. Dante isn’t who she expected and she falls in love with him and his kids.

I really enjoyed this book. I devoured it in one sitting and I loved the relationship Arianna ended up having with Dante and his kids. The characters were dealing with so much and I loved seeing them find comfort in each other. Dante was so hot and had me swooning at times! I can’t wait to read more by Jocelyn Soto.

This was another page turning read from this talented author. It took a bit for me to get in to as there was less action/suspense than her other books for the most part, but that didn't make it any less good, hence the rating.
Think I started enjoying it more when both sides of the story was told, as her need for vengeance seemed naive looking on.
Will she be able to stop the plan in motion before it's too late for her new found family?
Definitely recommend that you one click.

Tonight, I fantasize about my father’s possible killer, tomorrow I will come up with another plan to take the fucker down.

The hero felt like...the most unmafia mafia man. A wannabe mafia boy who was literally the mafia.
The heroine is ....ok.

I do like a good single parent thingy.
The kids make the book a good one.

Dante and Arianna are so good together. I love a good Mafia romance. And this was no exception. Dante and Arianna have fabulous chemistry. And their first meeting was on pointe! And that ending! Arianna is so amazing! I mean, revenge is so sweet!! If you want a couple with explosive chemistry, these two have it! And to top it all off, the kids are so precious!!!

1.25⭐️ I didn’t like it, lost interest at about forty percent in. It was unrealistic and some things were just too convenient that it was not believable.
There wasn’t really a lot happening, I got bored and skipped a few pages ever so often. I didn’t really care for the characters either.

The thing that really bothered me and made me lose interest was the fact that the FMC was out for vengeance and basically used little kids for her own benefit. She was okay with the fact that she would take away a nine-months-old and four-years-old’s only parent… that just didn’t sit right with me.
A few other things didn’t sit right with me either but I won’t comment on them. The writing and the plot twists weren’t that great either. So all in all I wasn’t a fan.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's book Reports.

This is a mafia romance that will contain some topics that will be triggering for some readers. You should heed the warning in the beginning of the book.
If you have not read a Jocelyne Soto book then you are really missing out. This book is no exception and I found myself so engrossed in this book that the world around me just melted away. This is the story of Ariana and Dante. Ariana is grieving the loss of the most important man in her life. Her father was killed and she is going to take down the man that she believes is responsible for his death. Ariana is determined and resourceful but she has this side of her that is impulsive and that will either serve her well or cause some trouble for her. Dante is a single father that is very devoted to his two young children. He is also in the mafia and is the don who rules the city. To get close to Dante Ariana finds the perfect opportunity by becoming his nanny. But these two are keeping some serious secrets. However there is some serious chemistry and attraction between these two and she never expected to start having the feelings that she is going to feel for him and of course his two adorable children. Will she be able to carry out her plan, or is it possible that she is seeing what she wants to see and Dante is being set up? You have to read to find all of that out. This book is a page turner for sure. I didn't think there was as much action as Jocelyne Soto's previous books but that doesn't really take anything away from this book at all. I really loved every single second of it and couldn't put it down

Today I'm taking part in the blog tour for Powerful Deception, a woman set on revenge for the dangerous man who brutally murdered her father.

Arianna Vitale discovered her murdered father in his home and her mission is to find the despicable man who killed him. Her research leads her to a very lethal man, a Chicago crime boss who is looking for a nanny for his two young children. Let the betrayal begin.

Dante "The Devil" Rosetti will be the first to tell you that he doesn't deserve to live. It's clear he has done some awful things in his life and had no choice but to take over the family business. However, he loves his children and they come first in his life. Enter a woman who is not who she seems. She proves that she loves his children, but what is she hiding?

I love the idea of a woman out for revenge. Especially when the target is handsome, dangerous, and a devoted father. Arianna gets trapped in her lies as she falls for Dante and his children. It's refreshing to see a crime boss who is not only ruthless with his business but charming and devoted to his adorable children. Dante is also a vulnerable man who still mourns the loss of his wife in a devastating car accident and feels guilty for his attraction to Arianna. Granted he had every right to be suspicious of Arianna, but their chemistry is off the charts and her tenderness with his children is the most genuine thing about her as she digs herself deeper into her own lies and in the beginning trusts the wrong people to help her. When Arianna falls for Dante and his family and realizes her mistake, it's almost too late ending with a gripping finale and a happily ever after.

Dante's children are lovely. Four-year-old Alessandra with her scars and muteness as a result of her mother's car accident and baby Angel is so precious with his smiles and giggles. My favorite part is when he learns to walk and Arianna's excitement in sharing the moment with Dante.

I loved this romantic suspense filled with betrayal, revenge, and falling in love. The dynamics of the characters are so intense because of the secrets and the attraction between them. I recommend you give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Soto for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

3.5⭐️ / 1.5🌶
Dante, or as the city of Chicago knows him, The Devil, is the head of the mafia who lost his wife less than a year ago and has two young children to take care of.

Arianna just lost her father who is a detective in Chicago. More pointy, he was murdered. She wants to find his killer and make them pay, and the rumor at the funeral is, that person is The Devil.

Arianna becomes Dante’s nanny for the kids and she wants to use this in to find the info that she needs to bring him down. What she doesn’t expect to find is these feelings she has for him.

The overall premise of this book hooked me in. I am all for mafia romance and then add in nanny too? I’ll read you in one sitting.

But for me, the execution wasn’t there for me. It had all the pieces but there was just some things I couldn’t get over. Arianna knows Dante is the king of Chicago and has his way to find out about her, but she lies about stuff he could find out easily. What’s worst, is Dante has all the means, and even told his assistant to do a deep dive, and yet they don’t do a check into her finances to see she lied about being broke?

Also, Arianna going to another mob person and working with them? Also them agreeing so easily for such little money,it just didn’t seem plausible.

I get that we are reading fiction, but fiction still needs to be believable in that world. Also, sometimes it felt like the timeline didn’t match up, like when it’s said it’s been 6 months but really it’s only been 4 months.

This could honestly just be because I am a person who escapes into the books these world creates that I need those small details to matter and that may not be for everyone.

I will still give this author another try with another book with her because everything was there for being a 4 or 5 star book, but there was just too much for me to look past to give that rating. And maybe I won’t have that issue with another book of hers.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I got so behind with my ARC readings because of COVID and still am but we're powering though lol

Dante and Arianna are brought together by death and revenge. Literally. Arianna father was brutally murdered by the Mafia and she thinks it was Dante. After an embarrassing and failed interview, one where I got second embarrassment, she still gets hired as his nanny for his two lovely children.

Every since this interview, Dante and Arianna have found themselves attracted to one another. Dante, even though he knows who she truly is and is attracted to her, he doesn't trust her. He has the inkling that she's there for a completely different reason. Arianna fight her attraction to him for obvious reasons.

When they finally do give in, everything starts to place itself down like puzzle pieces.... Or not. Arianna struggles with herself and her secrets. Dante has emotions and struggles of his own. Together they work well - in the sheets, out of the sheets, and the domestic life of raising his kids.

It was really nice to see Leo and Serena from the Flor de Muertos series mentioned in this story. It hit the nostalgia a bit. I totally recommend reading this world by Jocelyne. She's done an amazing job bringing it all together, whether it's Mafia (Flor de Muertos series and Powerful Deception) or not (Worth Every Second).

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my freaking god!!!!!!!!! Wow is all I can about this book! From start to finish it's never got boring or never did I wanna put it down.

This is a mafia romance and these I have to say are my favourite type of books. This is my first book by Jocelyne Soto and I have to say I'll definitely be reading more from this author.

Ariana is grieving for her father who's a detective, after he's murdered in the most horrific way, she's now got a vendetta against the man she believes is behind this, she's convinced that a man called The Devil is responsible and shes willing to weave herself in to his life so she can get him back. Dante is a single father after loosing their mother in a car accident, he's never really been able to move on and be happy. He's also head of the mafia that runs Chicago, he also owns a club and that's where they first meet when a job opportunity comes up Ariana is determined to get the job.

These two as you guessed it are keeping secrets from one another but never did they think they would fall for each other and fall for each other they did!!!! Wow wee the chemistry is off the Richter scale I mean damn!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Urgh Dante is just urgh!!!!! Boy oh boy!!!! 🥵 Find me a man like him PLEASE lol!!! Will Ariana be able to help kill the man she believes killed her father? Will Dante tell her about how he knows her father? Well well you'll have read this book to find out. Honestly you won't be disappointed I can tell you that, most have said it's not got as much action as her previous books but I'm definitely gonna be downloading more that's for sure, this book is definitely a page turner and will keep you going. I honestly couldn't put it down!!

Arianna is young, grieving her last living family and on top of having to bury her father she had to listen to insensitive people and their talk during her father’s services.
Dante is known as the devil in Chicago. But not much is known about him. Other than that he’s head of the mafia and kills people. His name is thrown around at Arianna’s father's services and that’s what sets her on a path to take the devil down.
There are things Arianna doesn’t know. She lies to get her foot in the door and get in to Dante’s house. She keeps secrets and even though she has her doubts, not once does she listen to her gut. Arianna is a good babysitter. She might be after Dante for other reasons but she cares for the children.
Dante knows things about Joseph Vitale’s death. He just never tells Ari any of it because she never ask. He withholds information from her but he’s honest with her in some ways. He has a gut feeling but like Ari he doesn’t listen to it either.
They have chemistry and in the bedroom they let lose. And all bets are off. When Dante let’s the devil out it’s hot and he knows how to pleasure his partner. The more she learns about him the more she feels and becomes more confused.
Ari knows about the children's mom and what happened to her. But she pushes on with her plan until she falls in love with the kids. And who can help but fall in love with Dante’s children. Ali has problems and the mother of other children can be so ugly and mean. I love what Arianna does when she picks up Ali from school. And let’s not talk about Dante when he gets wind of what was said about his little girl. He’s fiercely protective of his children and no one messes with them.
I loved this book and how everything developed. I highly recommend this book.

Mafia, revenge
Ari wants revenge on the man who is responsible for the death of her father. She will do anything to get close to him and Bri g down The Devil of Chicago.
Dante is The Devil if Chicago. He has done some terrible things in his life but he also a loving father, a man who cares for his friends and loves deeply. He is mourning the death of his wife, yet must still take care of his business and his babies. He needs a nanny.
Ari is great with kids and quickly falls for them and their father. She is torn. How can she fall for the man who killed her father? Can she take Dante away from his kids?

They live in two worlds. The Dark, and dangerous world of the mafia is portrayed by the bad guys. However, We mostly get sexy play with Dante and Ari. A bonus if sweet times with the kids.
This is definitely a angsty read. Full of lies, secrets and betrayals. Page turner wondering if Ari’s lies will come out , when her plot to take him out will happen and if they survive the chaos that follow.

This is a mafia romance with a twist -- the main female character is the one who is out to revenge the death of her father. Her name is Arianna and she is a force to be dealt with. Arianna is so bent on avenging her family that she does make some mistakes, but she is underestimated as well. She is brave but not foolish.

The man that Arianna is seeking revenge against is Dante. He is closed off and borderline evil because he has been deeply hurt in the recent past. He's also a single dad. It's there that you see his softer side when he spends time with them. While he is feared by nearly everyone, he does seem to ignore the red flags when it comes to Arianna. Not only does she become a nanny to his children, but he allows her into his life as well. Arianna sees the human side of Dante, but can they build a relationship based on their history and their lies?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story because it's different from what you usually get with this type of story and genre. I loved the characters and how they developed throughout the book.

Single dad & the nanny? YES PLEASE! Add that with a little suspense, and it was so good.

Arianna is grieving, and looking to take down the man that she believes had a hand in her father's death. She believes that man is Dante Rossetti. But was it truly him? Or is he being set up?

Both Arianna and Dante are keeping secrets, and when they come out, it will rock the foundation of their budding relationship. What happens once the secrets are out? Can they trust each other to push forward? What about Dante's kids?

Speaking of his kids, they come across as absolutely adorable. Allie drew me in, and I wish we could have seen her flourish a bit more. Those moments we did witness tugged at my mama heart.

Jocelyne Soto wrote another wonderful book that held my attention the entire time. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, and when it did, it was impactful. I do wish that Leo and Santos had a few more scenes, but that is just my love of the characters talking.

Arianna is grieving the loss of her police officer father, and when she begins to hear rumours around his death, she seeks vengeance against the powerful men who sanctioned his killing, starting with Dante. Dante is known as the “King”, and he is grieving the loss of his wife, and he is now a single dad to his two little children, who need a nanny. Arianna interviews for the position, but can she keep her identity a secret? This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with enemies / lovers,’ and 2nd chances, family, vengeance, loss, grief, healing, lies, betrayal, danger, suspense, intrigue, twists, mystery, trust, and love, which leads to a steamy and riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Having read Ms.Soto's work a couple of times before i've been looking so forward to reading more of her books! Ever since this one was announced i knew i had to pick it up next! I couldn't wait to read it and had to dive into it quickly. I so enjoyed this story!

Arianna and Dante's journey pulled me in! Arianna's world has been turned upside down which leads her to crossing paths with the devil himself, Dante. I couldn't wait to see how everything would play out!

I loved how quickly i got into this story. I didn't know what all to expect and that had me even more glued to my kindle. I admired Arianna's determination. I was glad that i got to dig deeper with Dante. Arianna and Dante's chemistry was undeniable! These two had me feeling many things from start to finish!

With Powerful Deception, Ms.Soto has created such a good mafia read that had me hooked! I can't wait for more from her!

I really enjoyed this story. Arianna and Dante have an amazing chemistry. The plot was definitely unique and unlike any other mafia romance I've read before.

Overall I liked Arianna's character, there were a few points where she wasn't my favorite. Her quick judgement and the unnecessary deceit kind of bothered me at times. At the end it all comes together and you understand why that was, so it works out for the storyline. I really liked how her story comes full circle at the end though.

Dante was everything you'd imagine of a mafia boss. What I was not expecting was the softer side with his family. The tragedy that made him a single dad and still having to maintain his "devil" persona was something I wasn't expecting to enjoy as much as I did. He was rough and tough when necessary and soft and sweet the other times. I loved that in his character.

I think this was a great story! A solid 4.5☆ read!

Revenge, deception, lies, murder, love, family & crazy plot twists! This story has it all and takes you on quite a journey.

I enjoyed that it was the FMC, Arianna, that set out on a revenge plot, since so often it's the man out for revenge. Arianna is strong and determined to find out who was behind a heinous act against her family & is determined to bring whoever it is down.

Dante aka "The Devil" is the Mafia king of Chicago, and although he is a strong alpha male, he has had a great hurt in his life that affects him.

When Arianna's revenge points her to Dante as the culprit, she inserts herself in his life to try to find something on him, what she doesn't expect is to find herslef falling for the man.
