USA Today bestselling author Stephanie Queen writes steamy angsty new adult and sports romance, romcoms and romantic suspense. She's been writing stories forever, the kind with happy endings.

Besides writing, she loves UConn basketball, NFL football, kittens and hanging out with friends and fellow readers in real life and on Facebook talking about books, romance and life.

She goes to the gym. More or less. She is the president of her local Chocoholics Anonymous chapter (after a long-standing denial and spectacular failure to control her permanent addiction).

Her writing desk overelooks one of many New Hampshire lakes where she lives with her husband and cat, and while their two sons are off on their own life adventures.

Fans of Gone with the Wind will appreciate this updated telling of Rhett and Scarlett's story, not set in the deep South, but on the streets of Boston and the surrounding area. Roxanne Monet is a woman with a whole lot of problems: she's lost her job, she's broke, her ex-mother-in-law is convinced she's a murderer, and the one thing she is truly passionate about, her volunteer fundraising work for a children's hospital, is in jeopardy. Barry Dennis is a superstar basketball player for the Celtics who can think about only one thing: being the absolute best at what he does. There's no room in his life for anyone else, and that includes his daughter, Lindy. Roxanne and Barry's game of seduction will leave you frustrated and angry at times, yet begging for more. If you want cookie-cutter, quasi-perfect heroines, and noble heroes who do the right thing, this is not your book. Like Rhett and Scarlett, Barry and Roxy are flawed characters with real, serious obstacles to overcome on their personal journeys before they can be together in a meaningful way. The book is all the better because of this. The scenes at the Children's Hospital will move you to tears, I promise. There are twists and turns to keep you guessing right up until the end how these two can possibly resolve their personal problems and the conflict between them, and you'll be so relieved when they do! I can't recommend this book highly enough.

He's the image of perfection, she's a woman playing it safe and cool after a disastrous marriage. But for Roxanne and Barry, the passion ignites and the intent to keep away keeps getting harder and harder.

Roxanne is at a crossroads. There's so much going on in this woman's life, it's like everything is hanging in limbo. But I admire her, she is strong and fights back and keeps her attitude positive. She's focused, and she knows what she does and doesn't want. Until Barry enters the pictures, and her emotions and libido go a little haywire.

Barry is perceived as a legend. The expectations that he's supposed to uphold are pretty high, and only get worse as time goes on. He has a love of the game, and is sticking to playing basketball while everything else in his life takes a backseat. Including family. My emotions are mixed on Barry. He's not the perfect hero, doesn't always try hard enough, but there's just something about him that kept him likable. Sometimes his attitude towards Roxanne bothered me, and I also didn't like the way he handled things in situations.

The pace is fast, always something going on. The characters had a strong reaction out of me, whether it was a strong like or dislike. It seemed like every man fell at Roxanne's feet and worshipped her as if she was a goddess or something, and the way Barry talked to her at times so coldly really angered me. But the two together definitely created sparks, whether they were loving or fighting.

All in all, I enjoyed Playing The Game. I feel the title has a double meaning, but that's just my thought. Stephanie Queen has a really strong voice and I liked it. The book is contemporary with small mystery elements that kept me reading from page one. If you're a fan of fast paced contemporaries, Playing The Game delivers one heck of a story.

What a great read with realistic characters and a compelling drama that kept me totally immersed in all that was happening from the first word to the last. I just couldn't put the book down because I had to know what was going to happen. I loved the instant attraction and undeniable chemistry between Roxanne Monet and basketball superstar Barry Dennis. Ms. Queen blew me away with this suspenseful and emotional sports romance!! This is the perfect read for those who will enjoy well-crafted contemporary romance. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Playing the game was a exciting read of twist and turns.

The characters were full of personality that jumped off the page and into my mind easily. Barry with his devotion and tunnel vision to his career of basketball made him a strong male character. Roxanne's devotion to the children at the hospital brought warmth to her character where the sexual manipulation she used to get men to donate to her cause made her a bit wicked. The other characters, the best friends, doctor, housekeeper and the evil mother-in-law were also brought to life in this story as Roxanne and Barry.

I loved the twist and turns to each of their lives and the way they fought through each one. I don't want to give anything away to anyone who has not read this book. I highly recommend this story. If you like a good strong storyline, sexy romantic scenes and great characters definitely read this book by Stephanie Queen.

I am really not sure how I feel about the book - I did not like the main characters, honestly not even a little bit.I thought Roxanne was a serious witch and the male lead was obnoxious and rude. I only finished the book because I wanted to see where the story was going and I really was hoping I would turn a corner and suddenly develop some affection for the characters. I really want to love the characters and be drawn into their lives and that just did not happen for me with this book. I got this book free and I think if I had paid for it I would have been even more disappointed.

I enjoyed this book. I expected it to be a fairly "light-weight" boy meets girl and falls in love, but I found it unexpectedly intense. I found that I had to put the book down several times because I could not handle what the outcome might be for the next issue that Roxy or Barry was coming up against. They had several major issues that had to be overcome and I had to brace myself to be strong enough to move with them through their storms.
I give credit to the author that this book is interesting. It's basically about 2 shallow people playing games in life. When they have to face the negativity of real life, they have to decide if, and how, to face it. They have their individual issues and their relationship with each other.

Sluggishly slow and to be honest neither character had much going for them. Too much going on within the story and have to confess I skimmed most of it.
