About the author
Kat Savage’s unique brand of storytelling combines some of her own truths with a little bit of fiction to connect to people in a very real way. She writes about ugly things authentically and shamelessly.

Hawk is a big tatted owner of a tattoo shop in Louisville, Kentucky. He never thought he would settle down and never thought he would want a family of his own. Drew and her daughter leave Philly after an ugly divorce and start over with nothing. When she is hired for Hawk’s shop, she gains not just a job but a found family she never had before.
Hawk falls hard and fast but it takes a while for him to move past denial and accept it. Drew tries to protect her heart, but it is a lost cause. I love how fast they fall and all the little moments they share. They have some seriously hot times, and I love that Drew didn’t have baggage when it came to a physical relationship. I really adored the relationship Hawk forms with Drew’s daughter. It is really a heart-melting piece of this story. I appreciated that this was a relatively low-angst read with a super-sweet HEA. This was my first book by this author, but her writing style hooked me from the beginning. I will definitely be back for more.
Although it frustrated me to no end, I understood both times that Drew left Hawk. I was screaming at her that she was making the wrong choice but it did make for an even better reading experience. Ha Ha Ha!
I am very interested to read the rest of the books from this world. I loved all the characters and want to know more about them and see them all find their happy endings too. Especially Will and Derek’s story. Something about them two I just know I will love the book.
I'm going to mention a couple of specific things that bothered me so be warned there are spoilers ahead:
When Drew beaks up with Hawk he says ok. Nothing else just ok. This was very underwhelming to me. He didn't fight or protest, just said ok and left. At that point this book lost me and it was a struggle to finish. I prefer my heros to stand and fight for their woman or at least have some sort of protest when she pushes him away. Just accepting it made it feel like he wasn't all that invested.
I am all for the struggling leading lady being spoiled by the hero, but Drew didn't struggle much. She lost everything in her divorce, finds a job to make a life for her and her daughter, then Hawk swoops in (no pun intended) and provides everything before she has a chance to rebuild.
Nina comes into the shop and mentions she left her jacket at Hawk's while him and Drew were broken up. Drew confronts him about it after mentally convincing herself she has no right to be upset, then accepts his explanation and moves on. If it was a big enough deal for her to irrationally confront him about it why would she suddenly just accept his explanation? Why not push a little?
When Drew's ex husband shows up her solution is to ask Hawk to keep his distance while she drives him away. Logically I can understand why this was a major thing for them, but I didn't feel the emotion behind it. Again he just accepts it. I'm all for the hero supporting and accepting his woman's decisions, but he could have at least expressed how hard the time apart would be. Maybe he could have offered to help. Something other than just accepting and moving on. The only thing Drew did to try to drive Curtis away was taking him to the tattoo shop. She let's him drive Ava to school, but basically just deals with his presence and doesn't do much until the last day of his visit. Her final "stand up to my ex" moment seemed odd to me. Yes she set him straight, but why ask details about the woman he was seeing? It didn't add to her point and was an odd detail to add.
Great read & I want more from everyone.
